And while nobody else knows your business as well as you, sometimes it’s hard to recognise new opportunities or more effective business strategies. Step 1. What is mentoring?Before you can understand how to be a mentor or how mentoring can benefit you, you must understand what mentoring is.

Coaching involves learning and support through teaching or training to achieve a specific personal or

professional result or goal.

Mentoring is an ongoing relationship of learning, dialogue

and challenge. It involves informal communication, usually

face-to-face, over a sustained period of time.
