THERE was music in the air atthe Sydney Convention andExhibition Centre last monthwhen it hosted the Song Summitand APRA Music Awards,A range of music workshops,

gigs and master classes were heldand delegates spontaneously jammed throughout the Bayside

Convention Centre, with the babygrand piano proving a popularfocus for sessions.

Held over three days from 26-28May, the summit included dozensof well-known musicians, songwriters and industry expertsincluding performers Gotye,Missy Higgins and Joel Madden.

In addition, there were liveperformances each eveningacross five venues, as well as thestaging of the APRA 2012 awards

in the Parkside Ballroom.APRA corporate events managerJana Gibson praised the Centrefor its role in delivering asuccessful event.

This was the first time weveheld our evening performances atthe same location as the dailyworkshops and sessions and itworked really well.

There was no noise spill and

we maintained a vibe withoutbeing in a music venue, Gibsonsaid.

From the Centres perspective, the Song Summit had somedifferent requirements includingthe simultaneous live music

events and the need for almost40 headset mikes to

accommodate the large numberof interview-style sessions. While the event attracted more

than 500 delegates each day, theCentre Video Production Unitplayed a role in sharing the keysessions with those who couldntattend, recording key lecturesand editing and uploading themto the Song Summit websitewithin the hour.
