  • 2. What is Morality? Morality (from the Latin moralitas -- "manner, character, proper behavior") is the differentiation of intentions, decisions, and actions between those that are "good" (or right) and those that are "bad" (or wrong). Principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behaviour.
  • 3. What is Morality? Morality is concerned with norms, values and beliefs embedded in social processes which define right and wrong for individuals and communities All individuals/communities have morality a basic sense of right and wrong in relation to particular activities.
  • 4. Moral Reasoning We cannot rely on our feelings, no matter how powerful they might be. Our feelings may be products of prejudice, selfishness, or cultural conditioning. Our decisions must be guided as much as possible by reason. The morally right thing to do is always the thing best supported by the arguments.
  • 5. Moral Reasoning Moral judgments must be backed by good reasons. Morality requires the impartial consideration of each individuals interests. If people are good only because they fear punishment and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed Einstein
  • 6. What is ethics? Ethics is concerned with study of morality and application of reason to elucidate specific rules and principles that determine right and wrong for a given situation. Ethics represents an attempt to systematize and rationalize morality, typically into generalized normative rules that may offer a solution during moral uncertainties.
  • 7. What is business ethics? Study of business situations, activities and decisions where issues of right and wrong are addressed. Here focus on morally wrong or right as opposed to commercially, strategically or financially right or wrong.fv
  • 8. Why to study business ethics? Saves cost to company Prevents internal frauds Protects reputation/goodwill/brand equity Meets regulatory requirements Keeps an eye on business malpractices Enhances organizational justice
