A recommended change in policy with regard to the scheduling of the printing of papers now places articles in the order in which they are accepted for publication. This change favors authors who are able to write papers that need little or no revision. The earliest paper that was published in the last 12 months was received in April 1982. A number were received during the rest of 1982 or early 1983. Beginning with the November 1983 issue, the new policy took effect with the publication of an article accepted in August. In June, the last article was accepted for publication in March of 1984.

At the present time a number of manuscripts are ready for printing in the hands of the Business Editor. Included are the last of the symposium papers that will appear in the July issue. The details are in his report.

The Editor-in-Chief has seven manuscripts ready to be sent to the As- sociate Editor and also the abstracts of the papers to be read at the 1984 An- nual Meeting. These abstracts are expected to appear in the August issue. There are also four revised manuscripts that will be forwarded to the Busi- ness Editor in the near future.

The Associate Editor has 23 manuscripts in various stages of the review process. Since November 1983 over 40 individuals have helped in the review process. The editors sincerely thank these reviewers.

Following publication of the June 1984 issue, there were lour Early Generation Selection Symposium articles scheduled for publication in July. There were 12 articles and one News and Reviews piece in galley, sent to and returned by authors, ready for scheduling. One other article has been set and sent to author, but not yet returned. One article is in press for typeset- ting.

With publication of the July issue, the time between acceptance of an article for publication and publication is four months. The time lag has been reduced from eight to four months by publishing three double issues.

Total number of pages printed increased by 102 to a record 966. The number of articles printed increased by one. News and Reviews pieces decreased by three and Short Communicat ions increased from 5 to 10.

Total reprints for the year increased by 1,400.

It should be noted that n6 page charge or reprint revenue was derived from the Irrigation Symposim and Glycoalkaloids Symposium issues. This resulted in a hypothetical shortfall of $3,390 in page charges and $1,160 in

Advertising billing decreased f rom $3,318 to $1,197 and lineage f rom 291/2 to 12 pages. Chemical companies continued to do the bulk of the ad- vertising, placing 7 pages of ads. Position announcements and Maine Seed Pota to ads round out the picture.

The loss of a long-time advertiser (PPG) because of a change in ad agencies continues to be felt. I have talked with the current and old agency, trying to pursuade them to do business with us. I also have been in touch with several other agencies and am hopeful that we can pick up new ac- counts.

Respectfully submitted,

Ronald Knight Advertising Manager

Whereas the University of Maine at Orono contributes so extensively to the conduct of the business and editorial affairs of The Potato Association of America; and The PAA members in Maine have so well arranged the de- tails of this 68th Annual Meeting; and the University of Maine at Presque Isle has so graciously opened its doors for us; and whereas the potato industry in Maine has made us welcome; therefore, be it resolved that The Potato As- sociation of America extends its appreciation to the Local Arrangements Committee, the Administrations of the University of Maine at Orono and Presque Isle, and the Maine Potato Industry. I move the adoption of this res- olution.
