Our high-impact approach brings people together to share skills, build capabilities, promote international understanding and action to change lives and make the world a fairer place. What does the role involve? VSO has been working with Community Self Reliance Centre (CSRC) for the past three years. CSRC is a Nepali NGO based in Kathmandu, but working in 53 districts in Nepal. CSRC works to secure equitable access to land for poor women and men, thereby ensuring their freedom and right to a dignified land. Obtaining certificates of land rights is the start of a process towards self-reliance for land-poor people. The next stage of the process is to use the land for sustainable livelihoods initiatives. In line with this objective, the VSO Business Development Advisor will work with the Village and District Land Rights Forums (V/DLRFs) in Kailali District to identify and link with markets based on agricultural or forest-based products. The Business Development Advisor will work with CSRC, V/DLRFs, local communities, and local government to ensure that communities have access to markets through the value chain process. The specific tasks of the Business Development Advisor are: - Conduct market research in Kailali District with particular emphasis on benefits for the landless poor - Liaise with various stakeholders to develop partnerships for market initiatives - Work with the local government to ensure that pro-poor market policy is in place Skills, qualifications and experience required - At least 3 years experience in designing and/or implementing livelihoods and/or market projects - Experience working in diverse multi-cultural teams - Fluent in English - Interpersonal and communication skills, patience and flexibility And the rest.... We’ll ask you to commit to at least 24 months to make a sustainable contribution to our development goals. In return, we’ll provide you with extensive training before your placement, and our financial package includes a local living allowance, return flights and accommodation.
