The Bushfi re Management Planning Unit (BMPU) will communicate, consult and support the Bushfi re Management Committees (BMCs), local councils, CFS personnel and other key stakeholders to gather information on the level of bushfi re risk to identifi ed assets. This information will be used to develop the nine Bushfi re Management Area Plans (BMAPs) across the state.

The development of each BMAP will focus on identifying assets at risk from bushfire, assessing the impact of bushfire and allocating mitigating treatments. Some of the major components of the completed plans will include:

n Information relating to the BMAP area and its landscape

n An online map displaying assets at risk and the risk

ratings

n A Treatment Register and Treatment Plan

Assets in the BMAPs will be divided into four categories of Human Settlement, Economic Infrastructure, Environmental and Social Value. Assets will be assessed for bushfi re risk against factors such as:

n Potential sources of ignition

n The ability of fi re to establish, spread and its

intensity

n The threat to assets from radiant heat

n Susceptibility of the occupants or the structure and potential consequences

The BMAPs and planning process assist the State Bushfi re Coordination Committee (SBCC), BMCs and key stakeholders to prioritise and implement treatment plans that prevent or mitigate the impact of bushfi res on people, communities, assets and landscapes across the state.

The development of the BMAPs will require the following contributions from key stakeholders:

n SBCC

> Provide strategic directions and coordinatedecision making in bushfi re managementplanning

> Review and approve Bushfi re ManagementArea Plans

> Advise the Minister on bushfi re prevention inthe country

n BMCs

> Provide information and make decisions onbushfi re planning issues within the area

> Review BMAP information and drafts

> Determine methodologies for community andpublic consultation

> Endorse the fi nal BMAP draft and submit tothe SBCC for approval

n CFS sta and volunteer representatives

> Provide local knowledge of fi re history, behaviour and landscape hazards

> Provide input relating to the susceptibility ofthe community

n Local Council

> Provide local knowledge on assets, thelandscape and the community

> Provide information on current preventionpractices.

n DEW and other agencies

> Contribute expertise towards the bushfi remanagement planning process

Other Stakeholders such as relevant land managers, government agencies, community groups and the public will also be invited to contribute and comment on the BMAPs.

The 9 Bushfi re Management Areas are:

n Adelaide Mt Lofty Ranges

n Fleurieu

n Flinders Mid North Yorke

n Kangaroo Island

n Limestone Coast

n Lower Eyre Peninsula

n Murray Mallee

n Outback

n Upper Eyre Peninsula
