Volunteer AwardsDuring the year our President Andrew McVeigh was the recipient of the prestigious Wests Ashfield Magpies Award for Volunteer of the year.

At the CDSFA Volunteers night Irene Browne was awarded a Cec Barlow award for volunteering. Irene was also nominated by Croydon Public School for a State Award.

Centenary ParkThe pavilion was completed in 2017 and we got to use the facility for the full 2018 season. This made it easier for volunteers to get to our equipment for ground setup and to put it away at the end of the day. The canteen was a luxury to run from and the meeting room and office was essential and well used throughout the season

Blair ParkWork has begun on Blair Park and completed so far was the fencing, much needed new lighting and work on the workman’s shed. Work on the extensions and refurbishing of the Blair Park shed will have started by the time you read this and should be completed before next season. Work will also begin on drainage and irrigation and returfing of the playing surface in the new year, also to have it ready for next season. We will wait in anticipation to see if this timeline does happen.

This year we had the luxury of operating from our new amenities block and it was great. We spent most of the season setting up the canteen, storeroom and meeting room to be fully fitted out to meet our requirements and now with this work done we can move forward and make the most of the facilities next season.

This made it much easier for our volunteers to help out and a pleasing aspect of the season past was just how many new and existing volunteers came along and helped out through the season. The heart and soul of the club is the volunteers and without them there would not be a club. A particular thank you to all the canteen volunteers and those that turned up to help out on finals and grand finals days setting up and packing down the fields.

RegistrationsBurwood Football Club had a decrease in numbers from 710 players in 2017 to 650 players in 2018.

Needless to say it is a concern that our numbers have dropped and the committee has discussed and implemented some actions to increase our numbers going forward. Pleasingly for the future we saw growth in a our junior numbers (7%) and female numbers (15%).

This decrease resulted in a financial loss for the season and steps need to be taken to bolster the club finances for next season.

We have continued with initiatives that have been put in place to help grow the junior playing numbers. We continued the Football NSW ALDI Mini Roos programs and have already run our 6th Mini Roos program for potential players from 4-6 years olds. These have been well received and many of the participants have joined up for the full season. With the renovation of Blair Park about to commence we have postponed the October and February programs till further notice.

Junior coach development program We also continue the Junior Coach Development program whereby we called for interest from our junior players in the 14 to 18 year old teams who wanted to try their hand at coaching the under 6 and under 7 teams. This saw 7 players taken in to the 2018 program and they have been involved in the Mini Roos program as well as gaining their Grassroots Training Certificates.

Our past junior coaches have continued in their roles and will now be into their fourth season as coaches with their teams now progressing to under 11s, 12s and 15s. These coaches have developed their abilities and responsibilities each year and it is a credit to them how they have developed and continued in their roles.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

There will be spots available for other juniors to step up to a coaching role this coming year so anyone interested who is in the 14-19 year age bracket should contact the club.

A further initiative was our Female Development Camp held in October that saw 26 girls from 8 to 14 years old attend and get three days of intensive coaching and had a lot of fun along the way. This was very successful and we will be looking to continue the female development stream into next season.

The continuation of our team formation policy and the use of a grading kit allowed for a more streamlined team formation process amongst the key age groups of 8s to 11s. It is important for the club to continue to form teams so players are always within a playing group of similar abilities. This leads to more time on the field and less time on the bench. Further we owe it to all new players to the club to correctly grade them into a team conducive of their abilities. We thank all of the volunteer coaches who stepped forward to assist in the grading process and trust that you will make yourselves available again next year.

The canteen was a joy to work in and this was shown by the readiness of volunteers to help out through the season. We thank Trina for managing the canteen and cooking up the best bacon and egg rolls in the association as judged by our patrons.

Acknowledgements I thank our treasurer Andrew Stamar for his continuing management of the clubs finances and his role as equipment manager in ensuring that every team gets their kit in time for the start of the season and our equipment levels are kept at sustainable levels.

Andrew is stepping down this year after 23 years of service to the club in every committee role possible including 12 years straight as our treasurer. His new grey nomad status will see him and Lyn off travelling the country and his shoes will indeed be hard to fill. We cannot thank him enough for his years of service to the club and the strong financial position we currently are in.

We thank our Vice President Michael Makaritis for his involvement in the fitting out of the shed and the many other tasks he helped out with this year. A personal thanks from myself to Michael for being my eyes and ears on the park allowing me to keep everyone updated throughout the season.

We also thank our Secretary Matthew Grew for his calming deliberations and voice of reason on some delicate matters through the season. His legal knowledge has been invaluable as has his wit and humour and bringing a new canteen menu item of smashed avos on Sunday mornings.

To Roger Press, our Recorder for the year, thank you for your perseverance and patience with managers and coaches collecting the results at all times of the day and night and getting the scores updated week in and out. An invaluable job that keeps all our teams on the park week in week out.

We thank Paul Higgins in his role of Coaching Coordinator for his development of the Skills Clinic and mentoring of coaches this year, running the grading days and helping with the Female Development Camp along with Isabelle Bucher who will be working with Paul in coach and player development this coming season.

By the time you read this work will have started on the Blair Park development and we wait with anticipation for this project to complete which will give us a permanent office and gear and equipment storage facility. We will be able to resume and extend our vital Mini Roos programs once this has been finished.

development stream into next season.

The Club's financials have been audited and are attached. For the fourth year Burwood Football Club has run at a loss. The reasons are varied.

The Mini Roos program.Which will hopefully help increase our player numbers in the 5-6 year old.

The payment of junior coaches to run this program is important, as players will be taught the correct way to play football.

HonorariumsCanteen, Ground Set Up, Ground Officials, CoachesThese are cost that we did not have before. If this is the way of the future then Burwood FC will have to structure that in its budget for 2019.

New stripThis season 6s and 7s received a new strip. Instead of bibs, as had been used in the past, each team had different coloured shirts. I am sure this is the way to go.

Now for good NEWSWe have a fantastic new amenities block at Centenary.

Further good news Blair amenities are getting upgraded starting hopefully November 2018.

Equipment reportNew strip for all juniors in 2019. Players 8 years to 18 year olds will have the same kits as our senior players. Gear for the 2019 Football Season has been ordered.
