What’s the celebration name and origin?

• Burning Man is a week-long annual event. The celebration began in 1986 in San Francisco when a group of friends decide to burn a wooden man’s figure of more than 2 meters as a way of celebrating the summer solstice, and that's how the burning man festival originates.

When and where?

• Begins on the last Monday in August, and ends on the first Monday in September in the Black Rock Desert(BRD) in northern, Nevada in the United States.

What’s the celebration about?• Is the celebrating of summer solstice. Also, the event is described as an

experiment in community, art, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance.• The Burning Man event is guided by ten principles that are meant to evoke the

cultural ethos that has emerged from the event:• 1. Radical inclusion.

2. Gifting3. Radical Self-reliance. 4. Radical Self-expression.

5. Communal Effort.

6. Civic Responsibility.

Who participes in it?

• All the people that buy a ticket, it have a cost of $390, allthough there are 4000 tickets that cost $190, sold to those who can not pay the full rate.

What unusual activities are there?

• It is a festival in which various forms of artistics expression takes place

• It’s prohibited the exchange of money since one of the main objectives is to share. Also, there is an opportunity to leave the mobile devices because the property does not have phone or internet coverage.

Why do you consider is whacky?

• I consider is whacky first because is in the desert and second combines music, art, ritual and a sense of kinship with a spectacular and large-scale celebration.
