Fairs are for . Not just 4-H members, but other youth groups, leaders, parents, friends, relatives and everyone who attends the fair.

Fairs are FUN and a place to meet new friends.

Playing and working together at the Fair leads to stronger friendships within and beyond the local club. Fairs provide a place to DISPLAY your creations. The fair gives youth a chance to show off skills and lets everyone know what 4-H’ers learn and can do.

Fairs are for LEARNING. Whether you receive a blue or pink ribbon, it’s what you learn at the fair that’s important. The judges are interested in helping you learn.

Fairs provide a place to experience COMPETITION. The fair lets youth see standards of excellence and try their skills at matching or exceeding them. Fairs give a person opportunity to develop

CONFIDENCE. Whether showing an animal or talking with a judge, members have a chance to feel good about what they’ve been able to do during the year.

Fairs provide a place for . Many youth see what others have done and this leads to many decisions, perhaps choosing a different 4-H project the following year (many adult leaders get ideas for next year too.) Showing at fair is NOT the ultimate 4-H experience, but is one step in the educational process. Always keep this in mind: you are a WINNER when you do your best, have fun, make new friends, and learn a lot by just being involved. Family Day at the Fair! Saturday, August 26th will be a day full of fun and an excellent opportunity for us to promote 4-H to families! The fair is look-ing for youth to help with face painting from 1:00-3:00 and 4:00-6:30 p.m. The 4-H program has face painting supplies leftover from Burnett Dairy Days. Please let Beth R. know if you are available to help. If there is enough interest in helping with face painting it can become a 4-H promotion area.

The fair will also be giving away free ice cream cones starting at noon on Saturday. Contact Coke Scheider if you’re interested in helping scoop ice cream. Her number is 715-488-2472. You could also put a note on your pre-registration forms to let her know you’re interested.

PURPOSE: Burnett County 4-H Junior Leaders’ group is open to all youth who are going into 6th grade or higher. This group is comprised of youth from all four 4-H clubs in Burnett County. It provides a platform to discuss and participate in youth leadership activities appropriate for older youth. END OF YEAR EVENT - Save Saturday, August 19th at 1:00 p.m. for the Jr. Leaders End of Year event at Crooked Lake Park. This party will replace the regu-larly scheduled meeting on Sunday, August 13th. Jr. Leaders agreed to purchase $50 worth of pizza (the organizing committee of Maiya Fuller and Alexis Slat-er will select their fav. pizza place to order from and what types of pies). The Jr. Leaders want this to be a "birthday party" theme. In an effort to order the right amount of pizza, please RSVP by August 18th at 4:00 p.m. on the Burnett County 4-H Junior Leaders Facebook closed group page, or by texting (715-520-2354) or calling (715-349-2151 Ext. 2) Beth Rank. Are some people willing to sign up on FB to bring food or to coordinate a fun non-water related game? The food should be something that goes with pizza to "round out" our meal such as veggies and dip, salad, cake or other dessert, beverage options, etc. There are two unopened bags of chips and two bags of cheese puffs left over from camp that should be eaten soon. Any fun games you only play at birthday parties? Any fun Minute to Win It games we haven't played yet? Bring them so we can have tons of fun! JR LEADER PLAY - Jr. Leaders voted at their July meeting to attend a play this summer. They decided to see Magic Tree House: Knights at Dawn Kids on Stage on Saturday, September 30th at 7:00 p.m. at the Northern Star Theatre in Rice Lake. The Jr. Lead-ers organization will pay half the ticket price ($3.50) towards the total ticket price of $7.00 for Jr. Leader members to attend. All other accompanying family members must pay the full ticket price. Limited tickets may be available. Please call Beth R. to reserve your seat by August 30th (one month before the show). Magic Tree House: The Knight at Dawn Kids on Stage is an adaptation of the second of Mary Pope Osborne’s award-winning fantasy adventure books from The Magic Tree House book series, which has sold more than 100 million copies and is available in more than 100 countries around the world. This time around, Jack and Annie’s tree house takes them to an

age of knights in shining armor, where the two discov-er the power of hope and the true meaning of gallant-ry. The two siblings, Jack and Annie, return to visit the magic tree house. As they read a book about knights and the middle ages, Annie is intrigued by the Black Knight and the mysterious quest one must suc-cessfully complete before becoming a knight. When she wishes to visit the castle in the book, the siblings are whisked away to medieval times. They set off to learn more about the Black Knight and his quest, ex-periencing a grand medieval feast, escaping through secret tunnels, and dancing with enchanted suits of armor, all in an effort to find their way back home. NEXT MEETING - August 19, 1pm, Crooked Lake Park INVESTIGATE the Youth Leadership project at http://fyi.uwex.edu/wi4hprojects/community-involvement/youth-leadership/.

On Sunday, July 16, the Wood Creek 4-H Club met for a meeting at Crooked Lake Park in Siren. The head (Alex and Emma) announced that “our world” wasn’t originally in the pledge but was added in the 1970’s. The health (Joel and Nick) told us some facts about raspberries, such as there are over two hun-dred kinds, and they can be red, purple, and gold. Lydia went to Cloverbud Camp and she said that the best thing was they got to play water games. But the worst thing was she had to take a nap! Rylee went to the Madison Youth Conference and said it was fun. She also said she recommended it. The Wood Creek 4-H Club collected $435 on coupon books so in return we got over two hundred dollars. We also had the County Tour, which is when you bring in something that you are going to bring to the fair. Some people brought in art; for others, crafts were the way to go! We have a busy club at this time! Hope you have a good rest of July! - Josephine Richards

VOLUNTEER e-FORUM - To meet the minimum re-quirement for the Annual Leader Training on 4-H Charters, at least one adult volunteer from each club must attend at least one training. More leaders are welcome and leaders may attend more than one ses-sion.

Participants will learn about the Essential Elements of 4-H and the 5 C’s of positive youth development, so join us to set the stage for more successful club meetings!

Volunteers will gain ideas for planning and organizing fun, educational sessions for youth.

Club meetings, events, camps, and after-school pro-grams are places to develop life skills and expand their interests through 4-H. During this session volunteers will share ideas, receive resources, and see a variety of successful programs that help youth focus on life-long learning, workforce readi-ness, and career exploration.
