St Veronica Parish Bap sm of The Lord

Dear Saint Veronica Parishioners, Happy Christmas, again!!! Keep wishing people a Happy or Merry Christmas all the way through this weekend. This Sunday we are ending the "Christmas Season" and are at the beginning of the Church's "Ordinary Time" which really means "ordered time" because the Sundays are designated by number: "The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time... The Third Sunday in Ordinary Time" and so forth. And today, we are at the beginning of Mark's Gospel. Today we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. This marks the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. It is important to note that St. Mark didn't write his Gospel to give us a biography of Jesus. Nor was he trying to prove anything about Jesus. Nor was he trying to teach us some history. Mark (and the other three evangelists, too) was trying to tell us the story of Jesus so that we could be part of the story. The story continues, and we are part of that story. When Jesus called his first disciples - Peter, Andrew, James, and John - he didn't say, "Come, and watch what I'm doing." He said, "Come and be part of what I'm doing." You see, the story continues. Jesus came to bring about the Reign of God... to transform creation into a place of goodness and peace. He called disciples to help him do it. And he continues to do it, sending his Spirit upon disciples today to be part of what he is doing. We are called by Jesus, and called by name. Jesus doesn't say, "Look at what I did." Jesus says, "Look at what I'm still doing." We are called to be part of what Jesus began and is still doing. We are about what Jesus was about, and what Jesus is still doing - transforming creation into the Reign of God, a place of goodness and peace. It's a wonderful story. And we are part of it. May each of us, all of us, live up to our part in this wonderful story which began at His Baptism. I found a prayer that I thought may help us in the New Year 2021. So many are so happy we are done with

2020. While restrictions are still in place we pray for all those continuing to work the front line of this pandemic. We also pray for all families who have had to deal with COVID-19 with their loved ones. May God Father, Son, and Holy Spirit continue to inspire and influence your lives. “Lord, at the start of each day, help us to recognize you above all else. Enlighten the eyes of our heart that we might see you and notice how you're at work through our lives. Give us wisdom to make the best choices, fill us with a desire to seek after you more than anything else in this world. Let your Spirit and power breathe in us, through us, again, fresh and new. Thank you that you are greater than anything we may face in our day. Thank you that your presence goes with us, and that your joy is never dependent on our circumstances, but it is our true and lasting strength, no matter what we're up against. We ask that your peace lead us, that it would guard our hearts and minds in you. We ask for your grace to cover our lives this day. We love you Lord...we need you.” As many of you know, Fr. Conroy fell last Saturday just before the 4:30 Mass on the front steps of the Church. He received 15 stitches on his forehead from his fall. He wishes to thank all the concerned parishioners who called, left cards, brought food to the Rectory and prayed for his quick recovery. He is doing very well and is grateful to one and all. I thank you, too. PLEASE REMEMBER TO REGISTER EACH WEEK FOR WEEKEND MASSES. Registrations begin every Monday at 10 a.m. and last through Friday at 10:00 a.m. for the upcoming weekend. Please go to our Webpage (stveronicama.org), click on the On-Line Registration button, and follow the instructions to sign up for Mass. It is easy to do so. Our capacity at both churches is roughly 100. Let us pray for each other. God bless, Father Mahoney
