The Burgas Wetlands or the Burgas Lakes are a group of lakes - Lake Bourgas, Lake Mandrensko, Lake Atanasovsko and Lake Pomoriisko and also the protected areas Poda, Chengene skele and Uzungeren near Burgas. Three of the lakes and the area Poda are a part of the Ramsar convention and are of international importance, particularly as a habitat of water birds. The Burgas Lake Complex is one of the three most significant complexes of the Black sea cost of wetlands for the water birds.

Protected area “Atanasovsko Lake”
Тhe Black Sea salterns which extract sea salt are situated on the territory of Atanasovsko lake. The extraction of salt is performed in a primitive way, which has no negative influence upon the reservation inhabitants.
The Atanasovsko Lake does not freeze during the winter, which turns it into a center of the hibernating water birds.
The lake is situated on the migratory way Via Pontica.

The main treasures of the complex Mandra-Poda are the birds. It is amazing that 274 bird species are registered there and many of them are globally threatened.
