Hi Moms and Dads! Or should I say teachers? We know yournew job has come out of left field and probably has you feeling quite overwhelmed. We’re going to make this new teaching gig of yours as simple as possible. The activities in these bundles are going to teach your little ones ideas and concepts that they would be learning if they were sitting in a classroom. Our goal is to pro-vide you with a guide that allows you to be HANDS OFF while your children are hands on. We want them to be able to learn important skills and nature based content while you are doing the dishes, folding the laundry or preparing lunch.

The products in the bundle ar1 e great options for the activities that accompany them but don’t be afraid to swap them out for some of your child’s other favorite Safari products. The parent guides that accompany the activities can be be followed exactly or can be used as something to refer back to if you are unsure of how to help your child master the goals. Many of these activities can be completed by your child while you give them prompts and guidance.

Safari LTD has an incredible collection of toys that teach. With these bundles you are getting educational toys that foster creativity while teaching our kids about nature and conservation. Kids these days are being run down with workloads and tests unlike we’ve ever seen. Now is our time to bring excitement, curiosity and imagination back to learning.

Kindergarten Bundle Activity Guide

Goals• Describe how plants and animals are alike and different• Sort objects by observable properties, such as size, shape, color, speed, sound, habitat

Product• Flowers / Endangered Species: Land TOOB

or• Zoo Babies / Insects TOOB

BackgroundThe most important part of the scientific process is observation. It’s important for children to be

able to observe and draw conclusions from their observations. When comparing two items to each other kids can get overwhelmed with the amount of differences. When we look at similarities and differences with kindergarteners we want to focus on one aspect at a time. Try to focus on things your child already knows such as body parts, sizes, and textures.

Parent Guide• Discuss with your child some similarities and differences you share. Do you have the same eye or

hair color? Are you both male or female?• Discuss Some of your differences. You are an adult and they are a child. You are tall and they are

short.• Choose one of the TOOBs listed above, from your bundle.• Ask your child to choose two figurines and state one similarity and one difference.• Using the chart provided have your child group the figurines based on similarities and

differences.• Each of you pick a figurine of your choosing. Try to find one similarity and one difference.• Have your child find all the similarities while you list all the differences.• Try to find similarities and differences that are not physical. ex. Where can you find them?

Grouping by Observation

Directions: Group your figurines using their physical properties. How are they the same and how are they different? Do this 3 different times using different reasoning for each grouping.

Goals• Understand that we use models to represent things• Observe and create a visual representation of an object which includes its major features

Product• Life Cycle of a Monarch Butterfly

or• Life Cycle of a Frog

BackgroundWe use simulations to represent real life cycles. By definition a simulation is an imitation of a situ-

ation or process. It takes time to progress through a cycle so we use simulations to have a much faster version of a particular cycle. The easiest example of this is how we transition from an infant, to a toddler, to a child and so on. Simulations help us to see changes that happen over time, all at once.

Parent Guide• Start by explaining that just as children grow and change into adults, animals and insects go

through changes as well.• Explain how animals start out very small and go through various changes before becoming adult

versions of themselves.• Open your Life Cycle kit and lay out the pieces for your child. Explain that all of these are stages in

the butterfly/frog’s life cycle.• Have them guess which is the first stage. Ask them to explain why they chose that one.• Read the Butterfly/ Frog Cycle Information Sheet to/with your child. Have them hold and observe

each figurine as you read the information for that step in the cycle.• Using the worksheet provided have your child try to arrange the figurines in the correct order,

referring back to the Information Sheet.• Remove the figurines and have them repeat this a few times until they are confident they know

the cycle.

Butterfly Life CycleButterflies go through a metamorphosis before they become an adult butterfly. There are four steps that a butterfly must go through to complete the metamorphosis. The four stages of this cycle are egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly. Let's learn about these stages below.

Information Sheet

EggButterflies start out as very small, slightly see through eggs. The eggs can vary in shape but are usually circular or oval. Butterflies lay their eggs on leaves and usually in a large group.

CaterpillarWhen the egg hatches, out comes a caterpillar. At this time the caterpillar is very hungry. It will spend the next 2-5 weeks as a caterpillar. Most of this time will be spent eating! As they eat, they begin to grow too large for their outer skeleton. This means they will shed their outer skin many times as they grow.

ChrysalisWhen the caterpillar gets as big as it can get it will form its cocoon to protect itself before its outer body turns into a chrysalis. The caterpillar will remain in the chrysalis stage anywhere from 5-21 days.

ButterflyWhen the caterpillar emerges from its chrysalis, it will be a fully formed adult butterfly. It only takes a few hours to begin flying and immediately continues the cycle.

Frog Life CycleFrogs go through a quick transition from egg to adult frog. There are 4 stages in the life cycle of a frog. Frogs begin as eggs, become tadpoles, froglets, and finally adult frogs. This entire process takes about 12-16 weeks. Let’s learn about the stages below.

Information Sheet

EggA frog can lay thousands of eggs at once in a pond of water. Many of the eggs may be eaten by other animals like birds, fish, or ducks. The eggs that survive will turn into tad poles.

TadpolesTadpoles emerge from the egg and will swim using their tail and breathe underwater. After a few weeks. The tadpole will sprout legs.

FrogletTadpoles transition to froglets when they develop lungs and start to breath air instead of breathing underwater using gills. At this stage they will have legs, arms, and a tail. Although they breathe air, they still live in the water.

FrogFinally the frogs will absorb their tails into their bodies. They will then move todry land and prepare to start the cycle over again.

Goals• Identify and Recognize U.S. symbols• Identify and describe different jobs that people do and the tools they use to do them• Count from 1-20• Identify objects positions on a number line• Use number order words correctly: first, last, second, 3rd

Product• USA TOOB• People at Work TOOB

BackgroundYour child has probably been able to count for quite some time now. However there is a difference

between reciting numbers from memory and being able to compare numbers to each other. The basis for all math computation is counting. This activity will combine number lines and counting while incorporating the social sciences by using the USA and People at Work TOOB’s.

Parent Guide• Lay out the number line worksheet and figurines from the TOOBS. Make sure you have plenty of

figurines, at least 20 TOTAL.• Let your child explore the figurines. Share any information you have on the individual pieces. ex.

“That one is flag. It’s the flag of our country. The United States of America. Every country has a different flag and there are many many countries all over the world.”

• Instruct your child to lay the figurines on the number one while counting out loud.• Choose a figurine on their number line and ask what place it is in. ex. “What spot is the flag in on

your number line ? Is it first, last, 3rd?”• Ask them to place specific figurines in certain number spots.• Choose a random figurine and ask them to count forwards starting from that number. Then ask

them to count backwards.

Goals• Identify and Recognize U.S. symbols• Identify and describe different jobs that people do and the tools they use to do them• Count out a given number of objects• Compare number groups and be able to recognize which is greater or lesser• Be able to represent whole numbers with that many objects• Be able to add and subtract whole numbers up to 10

Product• USA TOOB• People at Work TOOB• BiOBUDDi Number Blocks

BackgroundYour child should be able to recognize written numbers up to 20. Although they can count and rec-

ognize the written number, we want them to be able to match those two concepts up. Your child will learn how to recognize the written number that represents a group of objects. Once they can master this, simple addition and subtraction will be much easier than having to count from one each time.

Parent Guide• Let your child explore the figurines. Share any information you have on the individual pieces. ex.

“That one is flag. It’s the flag of our country. The United States of America. Every country has a dif-ferent flag and there are many many countries all over the world.”

• Have your child pull a number from the BiOBUDDi blocks and place it in the small box in the topright corner of the activity page.

• Have them count out that many figurines from their TOOBS and place them in the circle.• Show them how the same number can be represented in two different ways.• Reverse the idea. Place a handful of items in one circle and have your child find the corresponding

number.• Shout out a number and have your child count out the figurines and find the block to match.• Extend this activity by having your child practice writing the number five and spelling it out using

handwriting paper.
