Principal’s Message

Our world of technology is moving and changing constantly. In order for our Bundarra students to compete for jobs in the 21st Century we must equip them with skills in the virtual eco system. Last week the staff were engaged in a three hour Robitics Professional Learning Session with NSW Department of Education IT Specialist, Mel Wood. We developed our skills in delivering exciting and engaging lessons in coding using dash robots, Lego Robotics and virtual environments. To assist us in our endeavours thirty new shiny red laptops have been placed in the classrooms on a portable lab for students to utilise in class time. We are looking forward to sharing our learning with our students. The Creative and Performing Arts Room will be an exciting addition to our school. Our musical instruments should be arriving soon and Mrs King is looking forward to developing our musicians. In the near future the room will feature a green screen and photography equipment for Mr Vickery to teach photography and digital arts to our secondary students. It is time to get creative! Ms Stanfield is busy designing our Textiles and Design Room that will enable the TM, Design and Textile students to develop their skills in this industry. Some of the Technology Mandatory Wool designs are on display in the school’s reception room. We certainly have some talented students and teachers.

Mr Taylor is busy organising the Bundy Cattle Club and will be inviting students to express their interest to be part of this endeavour. Many of our students have a keen interest and skill in livestock management. Congratulations to Wingham Beef Week’s youngest competitor, Riley Kemp who was very successful in the competitions. I hope this is the start of a new era for Bundarra Agriculture. Over the last week Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students engaged with NAPLAN online. The students approached their assessments with maturity and were pleased to have this new platform for assessments. Thank you to Mrs Light and Mr Sowden for ensuring a smooth transition from pen and paper to computers for our students. Today Bundarra Central School is hosting the Zone Cross Country which has been organised by Mr Henley. We have twelve students competing this year and wish them the best of luck. Thank you to our P &C for running the canteen for the day which is always popular. The P&C is always looking for new members and it is a great way to become involved with your children’s school. Next week our Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students will be trekking off to the Great Aussie Bush Camp at Tea Gardens for the week. Have a fabulous time at the camp.

Secondary News

Comfort zones and why it is important to get out of them We grow when we are out of our comfort zone; it’s the scary places that move us to our destiny. When we are stretched it takes us to the next level. Year 12 students have been in their comfort zone for their junior years and have now been thrusted out of their comfortable nest, protected, guarded and nurtured by teachers and taken into another zone where they can discover their wings. Independent learning and study, modelled and guided by teachers but purely driven by students is now the common experience. Our students will discover their wings as they strive to be independent and strategic learners, becoming more effective with their time management and successful with their study techniques. As they experience success step by step they will discover their strengths and talents, they will develop new muscles, they will not hit the ground but rather they will discover their wings and realise they were created to soar. Senior students need to be following a revision timetable for all of their subjects and ensure all assessment tasks are completed.

Well done to the Year 3 and Year 5 students for attending school each day last week to complete NAPLAN, they enjoyed the on-line assessments. Thank you parents for your assistance by sending your children to school each day and making sure the week went calmly for all. A reminder to parents that when your child is away you only have 7 days to contact the school with an explanation, a note soon after is preferred. After that time you will receive a phone call asking for a reason to account for their absence. If your child has been regularly absent then it is referred to the Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO) and they will contact you. For regular sicknesses a doctor’s certificate is required with a reason for the absence. Please assist by supplying a note or a certificate as soon as possible. Please remember that when students are representing the school at special events, assemblies, and sporting events they are required to wear the correct school uniform. If for some unforeseen reason your child happens to be out of uniform please write a note to explain why. Remember the school has new and second hand clothing for minimal cost. Uniform items can be sourced at Lowes and Best and Less. Students are still required to wear a green broad-brimmed hat. It is so great to see students concentrating and working on–task in their classroom when I have the opportunity to drop by. K/1 and 2/3/4 are developing knowledge and skills through an English unit titled Rhythm, Rhyme and Chants and the unit for 5/6 is Sustainability. The 5/6 students were fortunate enough to be given new touch-screen laptops which they have already used in English and Mathematics lessons. They are looking forward to being able to access technology without leaving the classroom. Students would like to thank Bundarra Central School for the upgrade of resources.
