Dear reader,

In your hands you are holding a selection of comics, created

for the BUND comic competition »nothing overboard«. Every

year 6.4 million tons of litter is dumped into the sea, a large

proportion comes from ships. Almost 70 % of the litter

items are plastic pieces which can remain in the marine

environment for decades and even centuries to come. These

items can cause a lot of harm, as marine species can become

entangled and strangled in fl oating debris or they might die

because of mistaking plastic pieces for food.

We want to prevent this harm from taking place. And

despite the sheer size of our oceans and even if the huge

garbage patches at sea are not visible everywhere, our

shared marine environment should not become a dumping

site.

Help us to keep the environment clean!

Thank you.

Vielen Dank.
