BASICS OF THE FAITH Basics of the Faith is an ongoing monthly series dealing with basic doctrines of the Catholic Church. In May of 2016 we finished our five-year study of the United States Catholic Catechism For Adults (USCCA). Each of the thirty-six sessions covered one chapter of that book. Information and videos from many sources supplemented that found in the USCCA. Outlines and narrated PowerPoints of all sessions are found at www.basicsofthefaith.org. Our topic for the 2016-2017 sessions will be a more in-depth study of Jesus Christ. Each 90 minute session will include a viewing and discussion of one segment of Bishop Barron’s Priest,

Prophet and King series, as well as a presentation of material based on Pope St. John Paul II’s talks on Jesus, Son and Savior. You’re welcome to attend any individual session. No prior knowledge or preparation is needed. References will be provided for those who want to read the source material in advance. We meet on the first Sunday of the month in the Maximilian Room (Rectory side entrance) from 8:45 to 10:15 am. Due to the parish festival on October 2, our first session will be Sunday, September 25, 2016. Coffee, tea, and cake will be provided. To be added to our mailing list for information o n upcoming sessions, contact Anne Chavez at [email protected]. Outlines and narrated PowerPoints of previous topics are available at www.basicsofthefaith.org.

END OF LIFE ISSUES-A CATHOLIC PERSPECTIVE At one time or another all of us are confronted with end of life concerns, either for ourselves or for loved ones. The medical and ethical issues can be a source of confusion and anxiety as we try to make the “right” decisions. Our Catholic Faith provides clarity and reassurance on these matters. Deacon Alfred J. Mauriello II MD, will offer a presentation on two separate dates to discuss an overview of the Church’s teachings. There will be ample time for discussion as well as an opportunity for questions on end of life and other medical/ethical issues.

Session 1 Thursday, September 29th 9:30 AM

Refreshments will be offered after Daily Mass until the presentation begins.

Session 2 Thursday, October 6th 7:00 PM

People are often unreasonable,

illogical and self –centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people will accuse you of selfish motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some fall friends and gain true enemies.

Succeed anyway. If you are honest and sincere,

people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway. What you spend years building,

someone could destroy overnight. Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow.

Do good anyway. Give the world your best and

it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

On Monday, September 19th, beginning at 7:00 p.m., we will hold an information night for the RCIA process in the Newman Room of the Church. This meeting is for any adult,

teen or child (with parent) who is interested in a fuller relationship with God and a greater understanding of our Catholic Faith.

If you are not baptized, or a baptized non-Catholic Christian, or a baptized Catholic who has not yet received all Sacraments of Initiation (Eucharist & Confirmation), please come and bring your questions! We will discuss the time, content and purpose of RCIA and answer any questions. No reservation required.

RCIA INFORMATION

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process of discernment whereby adults learn about and begin to experience the beliefs and rites of the Catholic Church. RCIA sessions are held weekly on Mondays from September until after Easter. Each session presents a specific aspect of the Faith and allows for discussion and questions. Those who attend RCIA sessions are there to learn and discern. There is no obligation to enter the Church unless and until they decide it's right for them. If you are merely interested in what it means to be Catholic, what the Church teaches and why, and/or are seeking a deeper relationship with our Lord, please come!

Meetings are most Monday evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:45 PM
