Prayer Shawls Like to knit or crochet? Know someone who could use a little TLC? - A ministry for those

who love to knit or crochet and ease the pain or suf-fering of others. St. Helen’s CWL Prayer Shawl Committee gathers people who like to knit or cro-chet together to provide shawls/blankets to those who are ill and in need of a little extra comfort. But the gift, is not just the item - while these shawls are made, the person for whom they are intended will be prayed for by the person making the item. Items will be made on your own time and as a group prayer gathering. No experience is necessary - if you are interested, we will teach you! Contact: Pauline 905 563-7441.

All Souls Remembrance All Souls Remembrance envelopes are available at the Church entrance and in your offertory envelope boxes. Please return them with your intentions in the collection basket or bring them to the parish of-fice. Memorial Intentions will be taken from submit-ted envelopes and be remembered during the month of November.

Canadian Tire $$$ collected at the church will

be used for raffle/door prizes at fundraising events.

Oct. 26, 2014 - 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time A Revised Top Ten List

Exod 22:20-26 God is compassionate to all. Psalm 18 I love you, Lord, my strength. 1 Thess 1:5c-10 Be imitators of Paul and of the

Lord. Matt 22:34-40 You shall love the Lord, your God

…and your neighbor as yourself. On a visit to the coast, you may have seen lighthouses en-gulfed by giant waves. As the angry ocean wave crests, it slams into the lighthouse. The wave’s white shoulders seem like they will nearly topple the structure as tons of water ex-plode against it. Those inside

the lighthouse are certainly grateful for the firm foundation that withstands nature’s overwhelming

fury.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that the greatest and the first commandment is to love God. The sec-ond commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. These two commandments are the foun-dation of our faith. Jesus concludes that the whole law and the prophets depend on these two com-

mandments.

If we observe them, then even the gates of hell

will not prevail against us. -- Dc. Dick Folger

Thank you Canadian Bible Society A new ministry that opened the doors of St. Helen’s Church this summer to Sunday Masses for migrant farm workers was richly blessed with the generous donation of 150 Spanish Catholic Bibles from the Canadian Bible Society. Deacon Fabio Bustamante said the Spanish-speaking people have been thrilled to receive the Bibles and read the Word of God in their own language. “They were so happy to hold the new Bibles. I can’t describe it. We never expected this generosity and we can reach so many people because of their support.” The minis-try has also distributed the Spanish Bibles to three people in jail, and two houses that welcome new-comers to the community. The Canadian Bible So-ciety works in partnership with churches and other Bible agencies to facilitate and support translation and Scripture distribution work around the globe. We are so grateful for the wonderful ministry of the distribution of the powerful Word of God through the Canadian Bible Society.

Day of Discernment A Day of Discernment to assist young men (Grade Nine and older) to find out more about the Diocesan Priesthood will be held at the Catholic Center (3400 Merrittville Hwy., Thorold) on Saturday, December 13 from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. For more infor-mation or to register call Fr. Basque at 905-941-1600.

Annual Offense Declarations For those who have already completed their decla-rations, THANK YOU, we appreciate it! If you haven’t had a chance to complete it, please do so as we need them in. Thank you for your coopera-tion and continued service to St. Helen’s.
