    GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH(Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod)

    LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSASJanuary 19, 2014

THE SECOND SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY

    PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH

Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Lamb of God who takes away my sin and the sin of theworld. As my Savior You have delivered me from sin, death and the devil and brought me into

the light of Your grace. Keep me steadfast in my faith that receives all of the blessings you havefreely given to me and grant that I might reflect Your light to others as I live my life in service toYou and my neighbor. I pray this in Your holy name. Amen

    WELCOME

Welcome to Grace! It is indeed good for you to be here today in this season of theChurch Year known as the season of Epiphany. Epiphany is all about Jesus Christ being revealed

as Messiah to and for the nations as promised by God through the prophets in the Old Testament.Jesus is the Christ, He is God in flesh made manifest.

We ask that everyone fill out an attendance registration card found at each pew and returnit to an Usher as the Offering is collected. Restrooms are located on the lower level of this

building or across the bridge on this floor level before entering the fellowship hall. If you haveany questions please ask one of our greeters or ushers. Children are welcome in our Service andwill be invited to come forward for a Childrens Message. Parents may accompany them. A

nursery for infants and toddlers is located downstairs for anyone who has need.

    HOLY COMMUNION

Holy Communion will be celebrated in our 10:45 Service today. In this sacrament we receiveChrists very body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. Those who are not members of Grace areasked to speak with our Pastor before partaking of this sacrament so that the unity of faith might beestablished. Thank you for honoring this request.

AS WE GATHEREpiphany immerses us in learning about what it means for all nations to be invited and

embraced by the grace of God found in the person and work of Jesus for all people. In this season ofour Church Year, the Epistle and Gospel readings are frequently sequential from one Sunday to thenext. The purpose of these continuous readings is for us to become deeply familiar with portions ofHoly Scripture that teach about the identity of Jesus. This weeks Holy Gospel reading, John 1:29-42a, follows up on last weeks revelation of the Baptism of Jesus. 1

stCorinthians 1:1-9 is the first of

many throughout Epiphany drawn from St. Pauls letter to the church at Corinth. The Apostle exhortsthe Corinthians to be one in faith and love, always confessing and teaching that salvation is in Christalone. In Him we have been called to faith by the Holy Spirit through the Means of Grace to be Hisdisciples even as we have been made heirs of everlasting life through the forgiveness of sins.

    Antiphon

P The Christ has appeared to us.

    Psalm Psalm 40:1

    11 (antiphon: v. 3)

P He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.C Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.

P I waited patiently for the LORD;C he inclined to me and heard my cry.

P He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog,C and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.

P He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.C Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.

P Blessd is the man who makes the LORDhis trust,C who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!

P You have multiplied, O LORDmy God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts towardus; none can compare with you!

C I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.

P Sacrifice and offering you have not desired, but you have given me an open ear.C Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.

    P Then I said, Behold, I have come;

C in the scroll of the book it is written of me:P I desire to do your will, O my God;C your law is within my heart.

P I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation;C behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O LORD.

P I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness

and your salvation;C I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great

    congregation.

P As for you, O LORD, you will not restrain your mercy from me;C your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me!
