Thank you to all who have pledged - and to all who are prayerfully considering your gift. We need the support of each person in our parish and appreciate our visitors’ help as well. Together we acknowledge our responsibility to the greater church in the Grand Rapids diocese: Catholic Charities, Hispanic Ministry, Religious Education, formation of future priests, and the many ministries provided by and throughout our diocese. As an added benefit, we also accomplish some tasks in our parish with the tax exempt rebates of whatever we raise above our assessment.

It’s such a blessing serving you here at St. Gregory-Our Lady of Fatima Parish. We long for the good the Lord promises us. We hope our faith is not in vain. We care about our local parish.
That’s what makes determining the summer Saturday Mass location so difficult. OLF long-termers go so far as to say that if you close us down for ten weeks, it may as well be permanent. And St. Gregory Saturday mass attendees say that this mass was taken away from them due to the merger; that St Gregory has air conditioning and attracts the most attendees; why not use St Gregory for a mere ten week time frame? In both instances we really think it’s best going with our plan. And because “our plan” is distinct from the other, it may become altogether too easy to berate, blame and hold the other side at fault for not being more like us sensible, reasonable people. Last Thursday evening a joint Pastoral and Finance Council meeting arrived at a consensus to leave the Saturday mass at OLF and, beginning in the fall, to “do the numbers” of people, costs and income. Parishioners will get monthly updates in this space. This continues, using details, the process of planning. For now, a material will be applied to the choir loft window at OLF to limit the sun’s heat and help keep our worship space cooler. Planning for the future may seem fearful to some, yet Jesus told us not to fear, over and over again. Jesus reaches out to us in that fear. Further, we care for one another. Really. Nobody wants to see OLF abandoned. People really do care. I care. None of us is the center of our world, or of our parish. Always there are others to take into consideration. In the scheme of things I care more about people of either view, than I do about where we, now or a year from now, celebrate summer Saturday masses. Territory is not the most important thing here. Inclusivity and care are the most important things. How do we best care for and include all? I don’t know the future, but I know who holds the future. Fear not. In Jesus’ plan there are not winners and losers. There are only promises kept. Have a safe and blessed Memorial Day weekend. Fr. Tom
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: Together, as committed followers of Jesus, we worship, value diversity, work for justice and create community. One Sunday morning at a small southern church, the new pastor called on one of his older deacons to lead in the opening prayer. The deacon stood up, bowed his head and said, “Lord, I hate buttermilk.” The pastor opened one eye and wondered where this was going. The deacon continued, “Lord, I hate
lard.” Now the pastor was totally perplexed. The deacon continued, “Lord, I ain’t too crazy about plain flour. But after you mix ‘em all together and bake ‘em in a hot oven, I just love biscuits. Lord help us to realize when life gets hard, when things come up that we don’t like, whenever we don’t understand what You are doing, that we need to wait and see what You are making. After you get through mixing and baking, it’ll probably be something even better than biscuits. Amen.”
