November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month
From Family Transition Place Newsletter
That statistics* of Woman Abuse are startling.
• On average, every six days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner. In
2009, 67 women were murdered by a current or former spouse or boyfriend.
• More than one in ten Canadian women say they have been stalked by someone in a
way that made them fear for their life.
• Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16.
Here are some ideas of what YOU can do to prevent Violence
Against Women.
1. Recognize inequality and encourage change.
2. Confront sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and all
forms of oppression.
3. Support women and children to empower themselves,
take control of their own bodies, wages and lives.
4. Advocate for ending violence, poverty, homelessness and the
oppression of women and children.
5. Join us on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on
Violence Against Women at one of our vigils.
6. Own a business? Decorate your store front window in purple

PROJECT ACHIEVE A Thank you note from a recipient
Jessie Bannerman,
I recently received the Zonta science award at Mayfield Secondary school, and I would like to
thank you and the Zonta International District 4 for your contributions. If you could please forward
this thank you letter to everyone involved with this award.
Thanks, Elise
Dear Zonta International District 4,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous contributions along
with the time and commitment you put into promoting women’s education and achievements.
Throughout high school, I had the fortunate opportunity to get involved in many activities both
within my school and my community. Alongside this, I continuously improved in science courses
and began finding the material very interesting. It is so great to see that all of my determination
and effort has paid off. My love for science is what made me decide to go into Mechanical
Engineering at the University of Guelph.
Thanks again for presenting me with this award, which I will use towards my University education.
Sincerely,
Elise Huet
