* Florida Approval† NFA does not determine product performance

IS NFA IMPORTANT? A common misconception about Net Free Area (NFA) is the higher the NFA, the better. This misconception is wrong, and a ventilation product shouldn’t be solely chosen because of its NFA value. Too much outflow of air is just as dangerous as too little intake, and creating a balanced system is always a best practice. See page 12 about the Importance of Proper Ventilation

All Quarrix ridge vent products provide excellent protection against rain, snow and sleet, but nothing compares to the protection offered by StormStop. Our StormStop protects against the most extreme weather conditions that can enter through the vent and cause damage within the attic. StormStop blocks these damaging elements through its patented filter and unique membrane material. This special membrane cannot be penetrated by water yet still allows air to flow freely in and out of the attic. This special combination of protection and airflow is accomplished through a spun-bound material that stops any water that evasively enters the vent to bead up and roll back out of the vent, and because the material is 71% open and 29% closed, this stops weather but not airflow. StormStop also offers excellent protection in restricting bugs and pests from entering into the attic. StormStop offers the ultimate in weather protection and is available on Rigid Roll, Rigid Section, and Multi Roll products.

Quarrix ridge vents create the most attractive, straight and even roof line while providing effective ventilation. This low profile feature on our Rigid Roll and Rigid Section allows the vent to virtually disappear into the roof line for a truly beautiful roof. The innovative design does not require baffles even in the harshest conditions due to StormStop membrane. This eliminates the need for numerous and unsightly box, slat-back and turbine vents protruding from the roof.

BEAUTY ON THE ROOF

Continuous ridge

ventilation along the

entire ridge is one of

the most efficient and

effective methods of

maintaining proper attic

ventilation. It eliminates

zonal ventilation by

spreading the opening

along the ridgeline.

Best Curb Appeal with Invisible Profile Rigid Roll and Rigid Section, low-profile ridge vent create an almost invisible appearance from the ground. This provides a clean and neat roof line for a beautiful roof and greater curb appeal than other roof ventilation products.

Proven Performance You Can TrustQuarrix ridge vents never stop working for your home. With over 30 years of roofing performance, Rigid Roll and Rigid Section hold numerous patents and industry benchmarks. We’re not one to brag but being the most tested and certified ridge vent is performance you can trust.

Eave IntakeFor a balanced system to work, every attic needs air intake; however, not every home is equipped with soffit vents. Multi Roll Multi-Purpose Vent can be installed as an intake vent for homes with no overhang, too much overhang, or tile roofs.

Off-Peak ExhaustMulti Roll is a great solution for larger homes that have a large center beam or firewall, and cannot usually use ridge ventilation. Installing Multi Roll just off the peak, on both sides of the ridge, provides the right amount of exhaust.

Shed Wall ExhaustMany homes have roof-to-wall situations that are usually ignored. This can create hot spots in the attic. Multi Roll allows those areas to be vented properly, ensuring a cool attic and a balanced system.

1

UNDERSTANDINGINTAKEAir is a fluid just like water. Air pressure causes air to flow from one area to another. Soffit ventilation provides the high pressure, and ridge ventilation provides the low pressure. The adage,“You can’t get out what you don’t put in;” holds true for an attic ventilation system. For the system to properly function, you need a balance of intake and exhaust. Unfortunately, many homes don’t have sufficient amounts of intake which can cause a series of problems. There are many reasons why improper intake occurs such as no eave or soffit vents installed, blocked with insula-tion or clogged with outside debris. Quarrix Multi Roll™ Multi-Purpose Vent is an easy solution to quickly installing intake on the roof. Multi Roll is a one-stop-shop in solving most ventilation challenges.

DON’T MIXVENTILATION TYPESDo not mix ventilation types – if different types are used, “short circuiting” can occur where air is caused to go around and away from its original and intended path, resulting in areas of the attic being bypassed. Gable vents should be sealed off if a ridge vent is installed. HVAC ductwork and plumbing vent stacks should not terminate in the attic. Insulation must not obstruct intake vents. If a home humidifier is used or extreme daily temperature fluc-tuations are common, the 1/150 ventilation rule should be followed (1 square foot of ventilation for every 150 square feet of attic space).

Your attic needs to breathe in and breathe out to ventilate properly. In other words, for your ventilation system to work, you need to have a mix of intake and exhaust to create the proper airflow. Having the right combination or mix of airflow is what we refer to as a balanced system. See page 14 to reference information on how to calculate a balanced system. When you don’t have a balanced system, it is ineffective, and many problems can occur. The potential problems vary depending on the type of exhaust vent. One of the most common problems occurs with an insufficient intake which causes the ridge vent to pull intake air from the ridge vent itself, pulling weather into the attic. Not properly calculating the Net Free Area (NFA) or not allowing for enough intake are two common reasons for an unbalanced system. See Understanding Intake on page 8. Select your ventilation product based on its features and performance, and then calculate the amount of ridge vent and intake needed for the job. Don’t simply select the product that provides the most NFA; it is a common misconception that NFA equals performance. An unbalanced system can also occur when different types of ventilation are combined on the roof. Many times this is referred to as “mixing ventilation”.

THE IMPORTANCEOF PROPERVENTILATION

Ventilation is a small but essential component of your roofing system. Its purpose is to remove excess heat and moisture and keep air moving. [[

Lightest Weight, Most Flexible MaterialFlex Roll gets its lightweight and soft feel from being made of polyester versus a hard plastic material. Our lightest weight ridge vent when compared to Rigid Roll, Multi Roll and Aviator.

Made of 100% Recycled MaterialWe love that we can say that Flex Roll is made of 100% recycled material. Previously, it was 90% and in 2016 we made a move in our production facilities to achieve our first-ever ridge vent product made entirely of recycled material.

Tough Enough to Withstand the ElementsThe fibrous silicone material prevents dust and debris from clogging the vent and bugs, birds and bats from entering. The non-wicking material serves as a barrier to keep rain, snow and ice from filtering through. Flex Roll will not degrade or corrode from the elements and has a Lifetime Quarrix Warranty.

Installs Fast and EasyRoll it, cut it, nail it - and Flex Roll is installed in 3 easy steps! No fittings, wrappings or connectors.

Best Ridge Vent for Metal RoofsWhen working with metal roofing, you need a ridge ventilation product that can fit and conform under metal seams in order to obtain a tight-fit. Flex Roll is a soft and flexible vent that contours easily under metal. The perfect ridge vent for a manufactured home roof.

Our Most Economical Ridge VentWhen comparing your ridge vent options, Flex Roll provides proper ventilation, protection, and a neat and clean roof line all for an amazing Quarrix value. It may not be as tough as Rigid Roll, but Flex Roll fits the need for many roof types.

These charts represent the minimum length of Quarrix ridge vent, in combination with soffit ventilation, required to properly ventilate your attic space. Determine the square footage of attic space by multiplying length x width of the house. Find that approximate square footage on the chart and read across. The chart will tell recommended footage of Quarrix ridge vent, and the minimum square inches NFA of soffit ventilation required. This chart utilizes the F.H.A. Standard for static ventilation as found in H.U.D. Requirements for proper ventilation - Ref: M.P.S. 403.3. It uses the 1:300 ratio (1 square foot of ventilation for every 300 square feet of attic space). Quarrix ridge vent numbers are rounded up to the nearest foot. Double chart numbers when using the 1:150 ratio.

The numbers in these charts reflect the minimum lineal footage of slot which should be cut into the ridge. For the most aesthetically pleasing roof line possible, it’s recommended that the Quarrix ridge vent be installed along the entire ridge and hips of the roof.

A Balanced SystemThe most important factor in roof ventilation is the need for a balanced system. The two ventilation types required for a balanced system are intake vents located on the lower third of the roof and exhaust vents located on the upper third of the roof. For every inch of air exhausted,

it must be balanced by an equal or greater amount of air intake at the eave/soffit. A minimum of 50% of ventilation should be provided by intake vents and a ratio of 60% intake/40% exhaust should not be exceeded.by intake vents and a ratio of 60% intake/40% exhaust should not be

exceeded.

Both intake and exhaust vents must be in place and unobstructed in order for the system to work. Properly installed, the system

uses the natural forces of wind pressure and thermal effect, referred

to as the “Stack Effect” to circulate and exhaust air in the attic.

Can I mix exhaust vents types such as ridge vent and gable vents? The simple answer is, No, and here’s why. Combining ventilation types destroys proper attic ventilation. The more efficient outlet vent transforms the weaker outlet into an inlet vent. For example, if a ridge vent and gable vent are used together, the gable vent becomes the intake vent, eliminating the needed draw of air flow from the soffits and up along the roof sheathing.

Can I have too much ventilation?Yes! A common misconception with attic ventilation is that more is better. Too much ventilation increases the likelihood that the system will be unbalanced and the exhaust vents at the peak will draw in the air along with rain and snow. Additionally, more vents on the roof mean more penetrations in the roof deck that is susceptible to leaks.

Does NFA determine performance?NFA (net free area) is the calculated opening of a vent where the air is drawn in or exhausted out. Higher NFA doesn’t determine better ventilation and is a popular misnomer in the roofing industry. NFA is provided for informational purposes so that the proper calculation of needed ventilation can be made for a balanced system. Each Quarrix ridge vent provides a different NFA number.

How do I know if my attic ventilation system is balanced?A balanced ventilation system means air is evenly distributed between intake (50%) and exhaust (50%) ventilation. If the system cannot be balanced, you should use more intake ventilation but should not exceed a ratio of 60% intake ventilation to 40% exhaust ventilation. The amount of intake and exhaust ventilation you have is determined by the amount of Net Free Area (NFA) provided by the ventilation products installed, so the amount of NFA at the soffit or eave (intake) should match the amount of NFA at the ridge (exhaust).

How do I provide intake ventilation if I don’t have eaves and soffits? There are options for on-roof intake ventilation for those that do not have eaves and soffits. Quarrix offers the Multi Roll™ Multi-Purpose Vent which is installed on the lower third of the roof and provides the needed intake ventilation to move the moist air out of the attic through the exhaust vents.

Which roof types and styles work best with ridge ventilation?Ridge vents are available to fit a variety of roof styles including shingle, cedar, shake, stone-coated, metal standing seam, slate, S-tile, and flat-tile. The chart on page 2 is a quick reference guide. Quarrix ridge vents can also be used in a variety of applications such as Class A, Off-Peak, Shed, single bean, and double beam. Check product specifications to select the proper ridge vent for your application. Difference between zonal ventilation and continual ventilation?Zonal ventilation refers a type of static ventilation that creates air pockets or zones to occur in the attic space because air is not properly circulating throughout the entire roof line. Continual ventilation refers to static ventilation that provides a continuous flow of air throughout the entire roof line. Continuous ridge ventilation along the entire ridge eliminates zonal ventilation to occur and is one of the most efficient and effective methods of maintaining proper attic ventilation. Quarrix ridge ventilation products provide continual ventilation. What is HDPE?High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is a UV-resistant polyethylene thermoplastic made from petroleum. The extremely high molecular weight of HDPE combined with its very low coefficient friction provides excellent abrasion resistance preventing gouging, scuffing and scraping. HDPE maintains all its properties at extremely low temperatures, so no cracking occurs. It is resistant to corrosion from moisture and water, including salt water. HDPE is one of the highest impact resistant thermoplastics available.

Solve Zonal Issues with Under the Eave SoffitsQuarrix Soffit Vent was engineered to solve the “zonal” ventilation issues found among other undereave soffit intake products. In order to combat zonal ventilation, we developed our soffit vent to provide an even and continuous air intake at the eave to help create a more balanced system. Simply, cut an opening in the eave and place Quarrix soffit vent strip.

PIPE FLASHINGBUILT TO LAST®

Covers Vent Pipes to Blend into RoofRemove unsightly white vent pipes from the roof with the Pipe Boot. Four color options to choose from and also paintable to ensure it blends seam-lessly into any roof color. UV-resistant to resist color fading and provide long-lasting color.

All-Steel Construction with Powder-Coat Paint Prevents Corrosion#1 problem with vent pipes is that they corrode, deteriorate, rust, and turn into leaky faucets that rot and damage the roof. The Pipe Boot is made of all-steel construction and covered with powder-coat paint so it will withstand all the elements. No rubber gasket to fail and allow water penetration. The Pipe Boot will not rust, corrode, or damage the roof. It is built to last.

Frost Free to Withstand Harsh Winter ElementsDeveloped to withstand the harsh Minnesota winters, we engineered the Pipe Boot to not be susceptible or affected by frost. Frost causes vents to close. By creating a design that allows air space to circulate properly then the top is resistant to frost and freezing.

Lead-Free Top Prevents Squirrel DamageOur pipe boots are 100% Lead-Free. When lead tops or pipes are used on the roof, this becomes an open invitation for roof damage to occur by squirrels. The sad truth is that animals, especially squirrels, are attracted to the taste of lead on roof pipes. Over time, the squirrels constant gnaw-ing causes damage and deterioration to the pipe which ensues a host of problems.

Plastic Versus Wood When you use wood to create a barrier between wall and cladding you are creating a barrier that is naturally vulnerable to moisture absorption. Trapped moisture behind siding can cause peeling paint, rotting wood, deteriorating house wrap, siding to mold or mildew; and increase your home’s susceptibility to termites and wood rot. In order to install wood furring strips, pre-treated wood needs to be selected and each strip measured and painstakingly cut into the proper width and length. Wood also poses additional complications such as cracking, warping and splitting. Quarrix Furring Strips eliminate all these challenges.

An Easier Solution to Creating a Moisture BarrierRain has the potential to leak behind siding and cause moisture damage. The key is to isolate the house wrap from the siding to create a drainage plane. Quarrix Furring Strips provide both a vertical channel for air and moisture to vent and drain out, and a horizontal channel to allow air to move. This minimizes the potential for water and vapor penetration of the exterior wall.

A BETTER SOLUTION TO WOODA Stronger & More Durable Moisture BarrierOur furring strips are made of a plastic material that is crush-resistant and resists moisture, mold, mildew. Quarrix furring strips will not warp or split like wood.

Proven Performance Over WoodExtend the life of your siding and paint by eliminating heat and moisture build-up. Provide a vertical and horizontal channel for air flow and moisture. Small holes molded into furring strip allow for better drainage.

Pre-Cut Sizes for Faster InstallationAvailable in two different lengths and profile/height sizes.

Eliminates Need for Bug ScreenUse furring strips as a starter course to eliminate the need for an added bug screen.

Works with Many Cladding TypesCompatible with wood, fiber-cement, vinyl, stucco and EIFS systems.
