Stress is a feeling of strain or pressure.

Stress can be related to the external or internal.

Humans experience stress when they do not believe their coping mechanisms are adequate.

All good treatment plans should begin with the Four R’s. ◦ Remove any impediment to healing.

◦ Replace any depleted essential nutrients.

◦ Remediate damage that has been done.

◦ Relax and allow the body to heal itself.

Page 12: Building Optimal Performance

Starting point to all healthy body systems

Without proper building blocks, system cannot heal itself.

Optimal nutritional status can be achieved by ◦ Determining food allergies and avoiding foods that

cause any adverse physiological reaction, the entire body works as a unit.

◦ Treat heavy metal, fungus, or autoimmune disease.

◦ Eliminate toxins (AGEs, Acrylamide)

Page 13: Building Optimal Performance

Omega 3: Cold Pressed, Molecular Distilled, Third Party tested. ◦ 2000mg per day of EPA for mood.

◦ Ratio of 2:1 DHA to EPA for Attention.

◦ Greater than 5gm per day for Seizure.

Inositol: Use 10 gm per day in divided doses for Head Injury, OCD.

Vitamin B12: Supplement for Mood disorder, non-specific complaints like fatigue.

Adaptogens or adaptogenicsubstances, compounds, herbs[ or practices] refer to the concept whereby administration results in stabilization of physiological processes and promotion of homeostasis, an example being by decreased cellular sensitivity to stress.

I was working with a home training client, and her corded house phone started ringing. Every time it rang, there were runs of fast activity in Fp1 (top sensor) and F3 (third from top). We tried another phone and were not able to duplicate the artifact. We also moved the phone farther away and noted an attenuation of the signal. The EMF reading from the phone was 4 mGau. One indication that this is electromagnetic interference artifact is the perfect timing of 2 bursts of exa...ctly 10 oscillations of approximately 25hz occurring precisely every 4 seconds. The phone line carries a 90V AC burst at 20hz when a ring occurs--not a small current--and the particular phone that is causing the problem is no doubt "leaking" a signal when this occurs.

Head injury can be an impediment to achieving proper brain heath.

Individuals who participate in sports are more prone.

Individuals with psychiatric conditions are more likely to suffer from traumatic brain injury.

Page 19: Building Optimal Performance

In 2010, about 2.5 million emergency department (ED) visits, hospitalizations, or deaths were associated with TBI—either alone or in combination with other injuries—in the United States.◦ TBI contributed to the deaths of more than 50,000 people.◦ TBI was a diagnosis in more than 280,000 hospitalizations and

2.2 million ED visits. These consisted of TBI alone or TBI in combination with other injuries.

Over the past decade (2001–2010), while rates of TBI-related ED visits increased by 70%, hospitalization rates only increased by 11% and death rates decreased by 7%.In 2009, an estimated 248,418 children (age 19 or younger) were treated in U.S. EDs for sports and recreation-related injuries that included a diagnosis of concussion or TBI.3◦ From 2001 to 2009, the rate of ED visits for sports and

recreation-related injuries with a diagnosis of concussion or TBI, alone or in combination with other injuries, rose 57% among children (age 19 or younger).3

Is there an optimal operating range for the brain?

Using a technique called QEEG the

brain can be mapped in real

time. QEEG is different

from other techniques in that it is non-invasive, and demonstrates

electrical function.

Can make statistical inferences regarding symptoms.

Also can be used to predict different medication responses.

Can be used to study effects of any activity.

It is rapid, cost effective, non-invasive, portable, and environmentally friendly.

As a soldier in the German Army in first decade of 1900, Berger fell off his horse directly in front of artillery cart and was nearly run over

When he returned to HQ, telegram from his father saying his sister had feeling that he had been injured

Berger would explore physical means of such psychic transmissions

Berger's experiments carried on in spare time and utter secrecy.

As a diversionary measure he gave public discourses on telepathy, offering hypotheses of wave propagation to explain it.

Page 30: Building Optimal Performance

Berger made 73 EEG recordings from his 15y son, Klaus. ◦ First frequency encountered

was in 10-hertz range, (8 to 12 Hz) which he named alpha (others called the Berger rhythm).

After 5 years of investigation, he published his findings.

In 1929 he reported how brain waves changed dramatically if subject simply shifts from eyes closed to eyes open state. Furthermore, brain waves also changed when the subject sat quietly with eyes closed "focusing" on solving a math problem.

A breakthrough study conducted in Canada has found that training of the well-known brainwave in humans, the alpha rhythm, enhances a brain network responsible for cognitive-control. The training technique, termed neurofeedback, is being considered as a promising new method for restoring brain function in mental disorders. Using several neuroimaging methods, a team of researchers at the Western University and the Lawson Health Research Institute have now uncovered that functional changes within a key brain network occur directly after a 30-minute session of noninvasive, neural-based training. Dysfunction of this cognitive-control network has previously been implicated in a range of brain disorders including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, schizophrenia, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

November 2012, the American Academy of Pediatrics approved neurofeedback as a Level 1 or “best support” treatment option for children suffering from ADHD.

Many of these diagnoses are based on what was observed.

If the problem is noted in the Cerebral Cortex, NFB may be able to correct the problem.

Based on published clinical studies and employing efficacy criteria adapted by the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback and the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research, alpha theta training—either alone for alcoholism or in combination with beta training for stimulant and mixed substance abuse and combined with residential treatment programs, is efficacious. National Health Service trainee ophthalmic microsurgeons (N = 20) were randomly assigned◦ Sensory Motor Rhythm-Theta (SMR) ◦ Alpha-Theta (AT) group◦ wait-list 'no-treatment' control group (N = 8).

groups received eight 30-minute sessions of EEG training. Pre-post assessment included a skills lab

surgical procedure with timed measures and expert ratings from video-recordings by consultant surgeons, together with state/trait anxiety self-reports.

Page 60: Building Optimal Performance

Conclusion: SMR-Theta neurofeedbacktraining provided significant improvement in surgical technique whilst considerably reducing time on task by 26%. There was also evidence that AT training marginally reduced total surgery time. Overall, the data set provides encouraging evidence of optimisedlearning of a complex medical specialty via

neurofeedback training.

Several months since brain training and all is still going well. The lingering observation is the big difference in brain functionality when I am feeling well vs. when I am not feeling optimal such as when I did not sleep well, have a cold or after a night of drinking. Perhaps the difference was always there, but now I notice it and the strength of my brain to focus and come up with thoughts... Soooo much better when I have been eating well and getting proper rest... Such a wide difference from like an invalid to an competitive athlete... Anyways that's my observation... Thank you and all the best!

I am doing very well, and seem to be improving every day. I am just adjusting to re-entering the beautiful universe after three long years trapped in a black bubble of pain. Thank you for the gift that is meditation. I have practised every day and will continue to do so. It is my present to myself. Sarah W UK Home Training Client, 07/2014
