NGA Research and Education Foundation

Supporting NGA Research and Education Foundation initiatives ensures the industry will be strong and vibrant for years to come. The Foundation’s mission is to recruit talent, develop leaders and foster industry growth. Personal and corporate donations and project sponsorships will help the Foundation provide independent retailers with tools to develop more effective recruiting programs, enhance their retention and development initiatives and develop future leaders. The Foundation and its sponsors will also seek to position the industry as an employer of choice for college students. By supporting the NGA Research and Education Foundation, you will ensure the grocery industry has access to a greater pool of educated, high potential talent interested in working in the industry. Greater bench strength will enable retailers to increase store count thereby increasing the size and scope of the independent sector.

Family Business Planning ConferenceThis intense three-day program developed specifically for independent food retailers helps ensure the strength and perpetuity of the family-owned business. Retailers discover how to safeguard their business and successfully transition the business to employees or the next generation of family members. Due to the interactive nature of the program, attendance is limited to 10 families.

The program will lay the foundation so independent retailers can build an effective financial plan and succession plan for their business. They will learn how to prepare their organization and family for ownership transition. The program emphasizes business planning, succession/organizational planning, and estate and financial planning. Attendees will also learn about their own, and their family member’s, leadership styles and how to improve communication among family members.

NGA TECHNOLOGY

& RETAIL LEARNING INITIATIVES

Through a partnership with National Grocers Association (NGA), CART is working to bring innovative solutions, research and industry best practices to the independent sector. Learning will take place at a network of real retail locations throughout different markets, and the findings will be accessible to

NGA members. It’s time for independent retailers to return to a leadership role, and there is no more powerful tool than information.

65%

LIVE LEARNING LABSReal stores. Real shoppers. Real behavior.

Today’s retail environment is more competitive than ever. In order to succeed

in the face of growing pressure from larger retail chains, independent retailers must have access to the latest technologies, information and resources as

they relate to both business and customer intelligence. That’s where The Center for Advancing Retail & Technology (CART) comes in.

At Personiphi, our mission is to level

the industry playing field by uniting

independent and mid-market retailers

into a cohesive, nationwide marketing

network. We then help leverage that

combined scale to gain increased

access to industry marketing funds.

This brings new incremental savings

on relevant products to participating

retailers’ shoppers, all while protecting

and reinforcing the independent

retailers’ brand identity.

Personiphi and the National Grocers Association (NGA) have teamed

up to bring the power of personalized marketing to NGA member

retailers. By leveraging the NGA’s national scope and footprint, Personiphi

enables manufacturers to bring the benefit of precision marketing to a

significant sector of the industry for the first time.

Personiphi is seeking retailer participation as we build out

the marketing network while concurrently gaining brand

manufacturer involvement.

The nature of competition in supermarket retail

has shifted:

Using precisely targeted promotions and

personalization, the largest retailers are growing

secondary shoppers into loyal shoppers – at your

expense. And, as manufacturers shift marketing funds

to Shopper Marketing, the mass trade promotion

funds that you have relied on for decades are under

pressure.

Simply put, as an independent or mid-market retailer,

you’re no longer on a level playing field. But by helping

you effectively access industry marketing funds and

requisite technologies, Personiphi can get you there.

Personalized marketing is proven to drive increased basket size, increased shopping visits and improved

retention over time – all while delivering personalized savings FREE to you as a retailer and to the shopper

on products they want to buy:

Center for Advancing Retail & TechnologyToday’s retail environment is more competitive than ever. In order to succeed in the face of growing pressure from larger retail chains, independent retailers must have access to the latest technologies, information and resources as they relate to both business and customer intelligence. That’s where The Center for Advancing Retail & Technology (CART) comes in.

Together, CART and NGA connect members to the NGA InnovationCenter and NGA SolutionCenter, which helps them gain access to research and mission-critical technology solutions, while providing valuable guidance and best practices.

The NGA InnovationCenter creates a unique service for the industry: setting up live learning labs at participating retail stores to pilot new solutions, conducting research in partnership with our brand manufacturer trading partners, and discovering in-store marketing and operation best practices. The InnovationCenter is committed to sharing knowledge and best practices coming out of its research and studies with NGA members while seeking to bring new and innovative solutions to the independent sector.

The NGA SolutionCenter is dedicated to helping NGA members assess their current technology position, assisting them in technology roadmapping, and providing resources to help guide discovery, evaluation, and procurement of both basic and innovative solutions.

The SolutionCenter will help members gain access to innovative and mission-critical technology solutions while providing valuable guidance and best practices.

CART coordinates sponsored research projects with available retail environments and then provides research governance:

• Helping define and document research requests• Securing executive sponsorship• Providing ongoing project management• Summarizing learning through professional case studies and white papers
