FFew people are given the opportunity as we have, to be involved in a work of God that will leave a physical resource and Christian heritage. This resource and heritage is all about making Christ known in our nation. The opportunity is large, the potential enormous and the responsibility great – to place Christ’s Church right in the heart of community.

We live in a time and land where some believe the name of Christ is fading in our nation’s collective memory and the message of the Church is irrelevant. But we are of a totally different belief and persuasion. Jesus is building His Church and never has there been a time in which people are more in need of Jesus.

We don’t step into this project blindly. We are aware that the greatest fight is for souls and soil. The enemy has always wanted to destroy people and rob them of a home. We are confident that with faith and obedience, expressed through sacrifice and generosity we will see both souls and soil claimed for the building of the Lord’s Church – His house.

Since starting over eight years ago the Lord, by the power of His Spirit, has continued to bless us with ongoing growth. The Bible says it is “God that causes the growth”, we are not the “makers” but we are the “stewards” - those entrusted with this growth.

This growth means we have a great responsibility “to those whom receive much, much is required” Luke 12:48. We know we are no better than others, no more Holy, but because of God’s

Grace and only because of His Grace have we have been handed a Holy task and a Holy calling – To place Christ in the centre of life.

Every family needs a home, a place to belong. Songs like, “I still Call Australia Home,” stir emotion because every person wants a home, a place to belong. In a very real way we are building a home for our Lord and God, a place where people will meet with and find their home in Him.

It is by the Lord’s leading that we have been given the opportunity to place the church in the middle of one of the most innovative and integrated shopping, community, residential centres in Australia. – in fact it is the largest development of its type in Australia. What is so amazing is that we are in the largest city in Australia and in a city council historically known as the city of churches and for many years considered the physical hub of Sydney. We are going to be part of placing a physical foot print, for the Glory of our God.

The Lord is asking you, like Cathie and I and every member of the church to invest your treasure in heaven to secure the future for others. Our response is to say “yes” to this privilege and responsibility, for every one of us to use all we have to give generously and sacrificially to the building of the House of God – His Church.

In response to all Jesus has done for us, we continue to give to our “Build to Reach” fund. Our goal in the first year was to raise one million dollars - we have done that. But the journey continues and we freely give ourselves to the task of raising another million dollars plus this year.

This offering is about being Jesus’ people – people who are faith-filled, determined and self-sacrificing. As you step out with us in a spirit of faith, hope and love, we pray that Jesus will richly bless you. Be generous and see what He will do.

Tthree things a follower of Jesus Christ must do1. Courageously surrender all we have and do.No matter how little or how much you have, it’s already His. We need to remember we are stewards of what He has blessed us with. Before you begin to determine what you should give, make sure you surrender everything you have to the Lord. Make a commitment to give Him control over everything in your life.

2. Take time to listen to the Holy Spirit.It’s in stillness that we hear and know. Take time to remove yourself from any distractions and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart. Ask Him, “Lord, what do you want me to do? How much should I give?”

3. In faith boldly obey.There is nothing that attracts the blessing more, than a heart that boldly, in faith, obeys the leading of the Lord. To move from a nice thought to a blessed action requires faith and obedience. Boldly obey Him and you’ll be blessed beyond your dreams.

Nnot equal giving but equal sacrificeAny offering of this magnitude will be sacrificial. We will have to rise to the challenge, yet that challenge will be different for each person. So, our theme is “not equal giving, but equal sacrifice”. To sacrifice means to willingly give the best I have for a greater purpose.

Whilst we cannot all give the same amount, we can all sacrifice. This way, everyone can have a part. For some, a sacrificial gift may be $500. For others, it could be $250,000 or more. God will impress a specific amount on your heart if you ask Him.

A sacrificial gift is one that requires you to:change your lifestyle;re-arrange your priorities;actually give up something.

Your sacrificial gift, which is sown in faith, can only be determined by you and the Lord. I urge you to make your gift a matter of prayer, being confident that God will clearly direct you, enabling “each to give as he purposed in His heart.” 2 Corinthians 9:7. Our faith goals will come about as a result of our prayerful consideration of the question, “What does God want me to do?” Our response to the challenge before us must be made on the basis of God’s will for each individual or family.

To determine the rightness of your faith goal, ask yourself these three questions:

1. Was it born in prayer? 2. Is it truly sacrificial? 3. Does it involve faith?

“Build to Reach” requires a financial commitment separate and above what we already give in tithes and offerings. Through prayer and commitment, the offerings we give are important in the growth of the church in reaching and building people.

IJThe Christian message is overtly practical. It calls on

us to work with compassion in our world, to take practical measures to help other people.

Christian City Church Ryde allows that practical work to be done here in our local community, and it has a broader world vision.

I really encourage members of the church to maintain their financial contribution, but as important, their voluntary service.

CGgiving by faith is giving that pleases GodGiving by faith happens when we decide to give an amount that will require God’s help to fulfil. When Cathie and I asked the Lord how much He wanted us to give as a family, we were not surprised that this offering was to be large, requiring faith and sacrifice. Having heard from the Lord, we have already begun, “the leaders…offered willingly,” 1 Chronicles 29:6-7. Some of our giving will be supernatural and some sacrificial. Both will be by faith. I encourage you to allow the Lord to speak to you in this matter – don’t limit what He might want to do through you.

Ccreative ways to give

As a family, give up one of your takeaway meals a week for a meal at home. Missing one meal a week at an average of $20 per family is $1,040 per year.

Give up a habit. Easier said than done, but not impossible. A cappuccino per day for a year costs $1,095.

Commit your income tax refund to the Lord.

Give a gift of assets. You can give real estate, stocks, bonds, gold, cars, boats, etc.

Adjust your holiday. Try having a holiday at home and taking day trips and picnics. Or take a three day holiday instead of a week. This can save $1,000 - $2,000.

Wait for a movie to come out on video instead of seeing it at the theatre. A trip to the movies for two people costs approximately $40 with tickets, popcorn and a drink. If you cut out one movie a month that is $480 over the year.

Put off a major purchase and redirect the money into Build to Reach.

If you have a business, consider making a gift which is tax deductible to the business.

A dollar increase per week. This is a great idea for those who have never given or do not see a way to increase current giving. Start by giving one dollar the first week, then two, then three, etc., praying all along that the Lord would show you a way to add that next dollar and increase each week. If you keep this up for a year you would give $1,345.

Trust Distributions. Input tax credits that apply to distributions from trust funds - these are able to be refunded to the church from the tax office.

Hhow do I get involved?Prayerfully consider the amount of giving that is appropriate for you.

This should be your first step in becoming involved in establishing the Build to Reach Foundation. Pray for both faith and wisdom in making your decision.

2. Make your commitment to the Build to Reach Foundation.On Sunday18th June, 2006, you will have an opportunity to make your commitment during any of the three services, by completing a commitment card. Alternatively, if you are unable to attend church on the 18th, you can obtain a commitment card from the Church Office or submit a commitment card online at any time.

3. Consider how you will fulfil your commitment. You will have several options available to you:

Make a regular weekly or monthly contribution. Regular giving can be easier to manage, is rewarding and quickly builds up over time, as you can see in the table:
