BUILD a bamboo house for BANKSTOWN:LIVE The BANKSTOWN BAYANIHAN HOPPING SPIRIT HOUSE is a cross-cultural art project that explores bayanihan, the traditional practice of community spirit and cooperation in rural Philippines. This is most commonly invoked when a family relocates, calling on the community to literally help them move. Filipino artist Alwin Reamillo will be building a bamboo hut using locally- sourced bamboo and other materials gathered with the help of the local community. The BANKSTOWN BAYANIHAN HOPPING SPIRIT HOUSE aims to recreate the spirit of bayanihan by first building and decorating a bamboo hut, and then carrying it to a new location on Northam Avenue during BANKSTOWN:LIVE, part of Sydney Festival 2015. How can I be involved? You can help donate materials to decorate the house (see back of page). You can attend a chime-making workshop to make wind chimes or bells from found and recycled materials. Feel free to drop into a workshop for as long as you like. You can help carry the house during BANKSTOWN:LIVE.
