[class|dojo]

We will be using ClassDojo in our classroom this year!

Class Dojo Messaging allows me to send quick messages straight to your cell phone. I use this for reminders and important updates. I can also share pictures and videos of my students with you while keeping those private from the public eye. You do not need a smart phone to receive messages.

The Class Dojo app (free for iPhone & Android) also allows you to send messages to me.

I will send sign up instructions home with your child’s unique code during the first week of school.

Students will have Read Well homework each day and occasional math home-work. If they fail to do their homework they will first be given a warning. After the warning, they will begin to miss playtime by having to walk, havea note sent home, lose privileges in theclassroom, etc. It is your responsibility to listen to your child read the Read Well homework each day, initial it, and make sure that it makes it back into their binder. Students will have a binder that will go to and from school daily. One side will be labeled “Bring Back” for homework and forms that need to be filled out and sent back to school the next day. The other side will be labeled “Take Home”. These are things that you should look over and take out of the binder. PLEASE make sure you check your child’s binder EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!! Our weekly newsletter will also be sent home in the binder each Friday, so look for that and read each weekend.

Our classroom will use lots of technology! Students will use all of the technology available to us throughout the year to expand their knowledge of technology and how it can be used constructively in our daily lives. Students will create PowerPoint presentations, learn basic coding skills, complete online research, and more throughout this year!

From time to time, homework may be assigned that requires the use of a computer, tablet, or smart phone. In order for me to plan these activities and plan appropriate accommodations, please complete the technology survey and return it as soon as possible!

As we all know, the use of technology is not without its setbacks. In the event of technological difficulties or issues, please do not hesitate to contact me.I will do everything I can to help!

Breakfast, lunch, snacks & parties

Breakfast: This year, BREAKFAST IS FREE for all Clarksburg students!! Students are encouraged to eat breakfast every day. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria from 7:00 – 7:35 am. Please make sure your child arrives no later than 7:25 if your child plans to eat. They may also pack their unopened breakfast items in their lunchbox to eat at lunch or snack.

Lunch: We will eat lunch from 10:25-10:55 am. I will send home a monthly lunch menu in binders. Your child may bring his/her lunch. Just be sure not to send no soft drinks or glass containers. If you send lunch money to school, please put it in the clear pouch in their binder in an envelope with their name on it.

Snack: We will have snack time toward the end of each day. Students need to bring their own snack. Snacks should be something small, quick, and easy for them to eat.

Parties/birthdays: We will have a Christmas party that is open to any parents that would like to attend. More information on that will be sent home closer to time.

If your child is celebrating a birthday and you would like to send special snacks, please let me know the day before. These snacks should be dropped off in the office by 1:30 the day of the party. When sending birthday party invitations for your child to hand out, please send one for every child in our class or do not send them at all. Thanks!

Your child’s safety is of utmost importance. It is very important that I always know how your child is to go home from school each day. Please be sure to fill out the Student Information form given to you at Open House and return it to me by the first day of school.

If your child’s normal transportation plans change, you will need to send a note with your child that morning. If plans should change mid-day, please call the school at 731-986-3165 and let them know as soon as possible. It is okay to message me, but please be sure to let the office know as well. We MUST have a guardian’s permission to allow a student to leave with a non-guardian that has not been listed as a pick-up person. No exceptions!

DROP OFF: Morning car riders should be dropped off at the cafeteria end no later than 7:40 each morning. If they arrive by 7:35 they will report to the cafeteria and will walk down with the rest of their class. If it is after 7:35, they will need to report straight to our class room. Elementary morning bus riders will also be dropped off at the cafeteria end whether or not they are eating breakfast.

PICK UP/DISMISSAL: Elementary bus riders will be dismissed between 2:45-2:50. Elementary car riders will be dismissed at 2:45 and should be picked up at the back entrance of the school (located near the playground). Please be aware that 1) It is now illegal to talk on the phone while driving on school grounds. 2) We are required to report if a child leaves school grounds in improper child restraints. Please be sure your child is buckled in his/her booster seat in the backseat before driving away.

Other important info Other important info

Students in 1st grade receive actual number/letter grades. Our grading scale is as follows:

100-93 = A92-85 = B84-75 = C 74-70 = DBelow 70 = F

Behavior: We will use a clip chart system in our classroom. There will also be a behavior log in your child’s binder that you need to review and initial each night. All students start on green each day. Our system is as follows:

Green- Ready to learnYellow- Think about it/warning (1 point)Orange-Teacher’s choice (2 points)Red- Oh no! Stop!/Parent Contact (3 points)

Each time your child “moves a clip”, that is equivalent to one point off his/her conduct grade. Students receive a conduct grade each 9 weeks on their report cards. Clips will be moved for any noncompliance whether it is talking out of turn, not completing work, being off task, saying mean/hurtful things, etc. I will give students a verbal warning for things like talking or being out of his/her seat before making them move their clip. However, I will not give warnings for hitting. Hitting will not be tolerated. This also goes for disrespectful behavior toward me, my students, or anyone else. I expect my students to treat others as they want to be treated, respect others, and also to be responsible for their actions.

With that being said, it is my hope and prayer that these issues do not arise in our classroom. I plan on having a wonderful school year and I am so excited to be your child’s teacher!! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
