a presentation program will allow you to visually impress your audience and make powerful
arguments!
As part of the IBEST Office Assistant Certificate program, this offering of BTS 147 integrates
course outcomes from the Business Technology Systems department and the Developmental
Education department. These outcomes are listed together and are incorporated into the

This section of BTS 147 Presentation Design & Delivery is part of the I-BEST Office Assistant
Certificate program. I-BEST stands for Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training. It is a
program that provides pre-college students the opportunity to enroll in college-level courses
and certificate programs. Eligible students are at ESL levels 5 and 6 or ABE levels 3 and 4.
The program allows these students to begin earning college certificates faster than traditional
models.
I-BEST students enroll in technical classes (such as this one) as well as an academic skills
class. The academic skills class is taught by a basic skills instructor. It provides support for
students and focuses on developing essential language and study skills.
The technical course is team taught by a content instructor Zorica Wacker and a basic skills
instructor Marie Brissette. The purpose of having two instructors in the class at the same time
is to combine their relative areas of expertise. One is an expert in the technical material while
the other is an expert in basic skills instruction.
Our goal, as your instructors, is to work together to make the lessons as clear and accessible
as possible. We will be writing key ideas and vocabulary on the whiteboard, answering and
BTS 147 Presentation Design and Delivery Page 3 of 12
asking questions, guiding individual students, roaming around the classroom, and doing what
we can to make the class informative and engaging. Our aim is to help you learn and keep up
with the pace of the class. In short, you have the advantage of getting two instructors for the
price of one. This syllabus is a tentative plan for the quarter. The instructor may choose to
change the plan as the quarter progresses.

ATTENDANCE Your coming to class is important! We meet twice a week and we do fill out many attendance
sheets for most of my students.
For the online part of this class we do expect you to “come to class”. This means you need to
go online to our class site at least once a day and check in. It is your responsibility to check
for announcements, emails, inbox and read through discussion board postings on a regular
basis. You are responsible for following instructions given through our class site. We do track
your “attendance” on our class site.
Each class day, you must attend. For each class you attend and participate in, you earn 10
points. In order to earn the full 10 points, you must not only show up in class, but also actively
participate. Tardiness (showing up late) earns 5 points. Total number of points for class
attendance and participation is 200 pts.
ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION: If you have paperwork that needs to be signed by me for
attendance verification please submit them to me at my faculty address:
[email protected]. Remember to have them to me at least 24-hours
PRIOR to their due dates, so I have enough time to submit them.
COMPUTER LABS & TUTORING Tutoring is available in the BTS Tutor Lab. Online tutoring is also available. Here is the link for
BTS Lab hours: http://www.bellevuecollege.edu/asc/tutoring/schedule/bts-tech-lab.asp
COURSE COMPONENT DESCRIPTIONS
DISCUSSIONS (Canvas)
You will be asked to respond to a simple prompt on our class Canvas site discussion boards.
Do your best to answer these prompts fully and in your own words, as they will be graded. For
each discussion post one original post and two replies on your classmates’ posts.
END-OF-CHAPTER QUIZZES (MYITLAB)
You will take an “End-of-Chapter Quiz” for each textbook chapter. Questions are taken from
the eText/textbook, but the test you take will be in MyITLab. You may take the test three times
to earn at least 90%. Any grade lower than 70% will be recorded as a zero.
CHAPTER PROJECTS A AND B
These are the main assignments from each chapter of our textbook – likewise, these projects
offer the most points of any assignment category. It is important that you complete these
assignments, as they will teach you how to use PowerPoint. They are detailed, step-by-step
instructions for learning PowerPoint’s various features, by completing a presentation. You will
complete them outside of class, using the software on your computer (Microsoft PowerPoint).
SIMULATION TRAININGS (MYITLAB)
You may choose to do these extra-credit Simulation Trainings in MyITLab. They are web-
based, HTML5 simulations of PowerPoint, which will train you how to use the software, using
the same projects and outcomes as the A and B Projects. Like a tutor, the computer leads you
BTS 147 Presentation Design and Delivery Page 5 of 12
step-by-step through the various features, tools, and commands of Microsoft PowerPoint. It
will be important for you to take your time with these Trainings—they are slow to respond
sometimes. Read every instruction carefully and follow them closely, including spelling and
grammar.
GRADER PROJECTS (YOUR COMPUTER)
These are assignments from MyITLab. You will download the instructions from MyITLab,
follow the instructions by working in Microsoft PowerPoint, and upload your file to MyITLab for
automatic and immediate grading.
We will work on the Grader Projects in class; however, we may not finish them in class. If not,
you must complete them on your own, using the software on your computer (Microsoft
PowerPoint and MyITLab).
EXAMS
Our class will have two exams: midterm and final exam. Midterm exam will include first three
chapters of PowerPoint. In order to pass the class, you will need at least 70% on both exams.
EXTRA CREDIT
Designed to help you learn new skills or expand on the ones you have already learned in
class, extra credit will vary from class to class.
GRADING AND ASSIGNMENT TYPES
We will use a combination of discussions, chapter quizzes, chapter homework and
attendance. Due Dates are listed on the calendar tool. Yes, you may submit your homework
and tests early, prior to the due dates, if you wish .This is not a self-paced class. Assignments
are due each week. Assignments not received on time receive ZERO points.

INSTRUCTOR’S EXPECTATIONS/TIPS FOR SUCCESS
• LOG ONTO OUR CANVAS SITE REGULARLY. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn.
• READ THE SYLLABUS! This syllabus outlines the class. Take the time to read it so
there will be no surprises!
• ASK QUESTIONS. It is likely that if you are stuck or confused, so is someone else in the
class. Virtual help/discussion boards are available. Ask away!
• PLAN AHEAD! Figure out how and when you will do the assignments. Start your
assignments early so you can ask questions when you are stuck and get answers! Don’t
procrastinate and wait until Saturday evening to start your work.
KEEP UP AND PRACTICE your new skills!
• PROOFREAD all documents you turn in. In the business world it is crucial to have
effective, correctly written communication skills. Write carefully, read the documents you
turn in more than once, or have someone else read it first before turning it in. Points will
be deducted for errors.
• HAVE FUN! This class will challenge you. Enjoy the challenge as an opportunity for you
to learn as much as you can about Office software.
AFFIRMATION OF INCLUSION Bellevue College is committed to maintaining an environment in which every member of the
campus community feels welcome to participate in the life of the college, free from
harassment and discrimination.
We value our different backgrounds at Bellevue College, and students, faculty, staff members,
and administrators are to treat one another with dignity and respect.
RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYS Students who expect to miss classes, examinations, or any other assignments as a
consequence of their religious observance should be provided with a reasonable alternative
opportunity to complete such academic responsibilities. It is the obligation of students to
provide faculty with reasonable notice of the dates of religious holidays on which they will be
absent, preferably at the beginning of the term. Students who are absent on days of
examinations or class assignments should be offered an opportunity to make up the work
without penalty (if they have previously arranged to be absent), unless it can be demonstrated
that a makeup opportunity would constitute an unreasonable burden on a member of the
BTS 147 Presentation Design and Delivery Page 10 of 12
faculty. Should disagreement arise over what constitutes an unreasonable burden or any
element of this policy, parties involved should consult the department chair, or Dean.
COLLEGE ANTI-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT Bellevue College does not discriminate on the basis of race or ethnicity; color; creed; national
origin; sex; marital status; sexual orientation; age; religion; genetic information; the presence
of any sensory, mental, or physical disability; gender identity or veteran status in educational
programs and activities which it operates.
CONFIDENTIALITY AND MANDATORY REPORTING As an instructor, one of my responsibilities is to help create a safe learning environment on
our campus. It is my goal that you feel able to share information related to your life
experiences in classroom discussions, in your written work, and in our one-on-one meetings.
We will seek to keep information you share private to the greatest extent possible. However,
we are required to share with the Title IX Coordinator any and all information regarding sexual
assault and other forms of sexual misconduct (e.g. dating violence, domestic violence,
stalking) that may have occurred on campus or that impacts someone on campus. Students
may speak to someone confidentially by contacting the BC Counseling Center at (425) 564-
2212. The Title IX Office can be contacted at 425-564-2441 and more information can be
found at www.bellevuecollege.edu/titleix/.
For further information and contacts, please consult College Anti-Discrimination Statements.

To clearly demonstrate your ethics, you must acknowledge via bibliography, citations, etc. where you have obtained information or ideas that are not your own, whether they are from fellow students, or sources within or outside BC. Information about Bellevue College's copyright guidelines can be found at: College
BTS 147 Presentation Design and Delivery Page 11 of 12

Bellevue College. Examples of unacceptable behavior include, but are not limited to, talking

you will need an escort.
Please familiarize yourself with the emergency postings by the door of every classroom and
know where to go in the event of an evacuation. Your instructor will be asked if anyone might
still be in the building, so check in before you do anything else. Emergency responders will
search for anyone unaccounted for.
If a major emergency occurs, please follow these three rules:
1) Take directions from those in charge of the response -We all need to be working together.
2) Do not get in your car and leave campus (unless directed to) - Doing so will clog streets
and prevent emergency vehicles from entering the scene. Instead, follow directions from
those in charge.
3) In an emergency, call 911 first, then Public Safety.
Please do not hesitate to call Public Safety if you have safety questions or concerns at any
time. You may also visit the Public Safety web page for answers to your questions.
