GARDEN CLUB

Interest may be developing in reestablishing a Minerva Park Garden Club. Connie Lynch, 2785 Park Lane Drive (882-0330) cal l ed the Villager several weeks ago indicating her desire for a Club, and just this week Alison McArthur , 2571 Lakewood Drive (895-2784) showed a lot of enthusiasm for helping to get one going . Mary Yost, 2816 Lakewood Drive (882- 5444) has also offered a helping hand .

We need a few more people to call in their names so that we would have enough for a first meeting. Let's talk it up!!

GOURMET COOKING & RESTAURANT CLUB

Bonnie and Bill McClure, 2916 Kerrwood (891-2248) wrote the Vil lager a nice note expressing interest i n helping to start a Minerva Park Gourmet & Restaurant Club . Thanks, a lot, Bill .

Here's another great activity that many people do every month but which would be far more fun if we had an organized Club approach Please call the Vil l ager or the McClures and let's get this one going soon!

McClures also suggested a Tennis Club for Minerva Park residents. Anyone interested i n joining in this effort please call the Villager or the McClures. If their is enough interest, tennis courts could be studied as a project for the Park.

Let's welcome Fred and Millie Leupp back to Minerva Park. They lived here until 1979, then moved to Florida for six years. Millie was raised in Sunbury, Ohio and Fred comes from Columbus. They just arrived at 2940 Kerrwood and they feel like they are back home.

In their spare t i me, Fred and Millie enjoy danc i ng. Fred is a real do-it-yourself man and likes to bowl while Millie enjoys playing cards. Fred, right now, is home recovering from an unfortunate accident while moving in which left him with a broken knee cap and a broken arm.

Go introduce yourself to these delightful people and their adorable dog, Fritz. They are glad to be back and we are glad to have them.

Reported by Naomi Marmorstein

Al i son McArthur and Steve Laudon are married, have two darling daughters, Marne (5) and Ani (2), and live at 2571 Lakewood Drive . Al i son has retained her name because of her professional occupation. She and Steve are both Counselors on alcohol ism with Steve working at the Campus Adolescent Center.

The whole gang, including a big bl ack ca t (who runs the place) and a lovable cocker spaniel all came from Minneapolis, Minnesota. They love snow but they have al so fallen very much in love wi th Minerva Park.

How 'bout this for a hobby. Both Alison and Steve are j ugg l ers (and pretty good , too) and would be happy to perform for a Village function if we should want them to. Alison would like to help with a garden club and they both are enthusiastic cyclists .

INSTALLATION BANQUET A BIG HIT

The Women's Club 1984-85 program year ended with the Installation Banquet on May 28th at the Monte Carlo Restaurante. Besides the fine Italian Buffet, the ladies enjoyed piano music by Rich Odgers . The former MP resident played a wide variety of "goodies" (some were oldies, too) throughout the evening which culminated with installation of 1985-86 officers by Mayor "Buzz" Cockerell.

Marge Vance is the new President. Other officers are: Peg Holfinger, Vice President; Judy Horton, Secretary; and Ginny Gordon, Treasurer.

Outgoing President Eilene Ellery announced that the Women's Club would be paying for paving of a five foot wide section of walkway on the east side of the lake to complete a bike path from the dam to Minerva Lake Road .

Banquet arrangements were made by Jan Julian and Peggy Holfinger. A good time was had by all.

MIXED GOLF LEAGUE NEWS

Over the past six weeks we have expression of interest in starting a mixed golf league for Minerva Park residents. Evidently there used to be one which played at the Minerva Lake Golf Course.

Rita and David Kreuzer and Larry and Bea Sink were first to respond with Joan and Bill lang calling the Villager about two weeks ago. Wahneta and Jim Greiner have expressed interest and lucille and Julius Greuttner will play if we can get one started.

Unfortunately, here is what I have found, so far , with regard to a league at the MLGC. All evening league times are taken through the Labor Day season this year. In addition, unless one of the leagues drop out, it would be difficult getting a spot even for next year, at least at the Minerva Lake Golf Course. Not impossible, though! Bob Jones, Manager of MLGC says they accept leagues on a prepaid basis only (full green fees for at least half of the season ahead). We would need to have a fairly well developed membership list and plan in order to proceed.

To help develop such a plan, it is suggested that we form a fall ~eague to begin, tee time permitting, right after Labor Day. All summer we can encourage anyone we know into getting their names on the list to play this fall. Then during that 4 to 6 week period, we can firm up a league plan for next year.

Please ~ Call Judy Horton (890-4322) to get your name on the list for this fall and also to suggest names of people who should be contacted . Any other ideas as to how we can oroceed would be welcomed!

WOODLEY ROAD BLOCK PARTY A SUCCESS

The Woodley Road Block Party wa s a huge success ! About thirty five attended and ate the hamburgers, hot dogs and other delicious food.

When Kyle Himelstein, 3, was asked if he was having a good time, he eagerly replied, 11 Ye-e-s -s!!". Don Basler , Co-Chairman of this event, felt it was a big success. He thought t hat the highlight of it was the fact that new neighbors got to be part of an activity in Minerva Park and also got to meet the people who had li ved there fo r years .

We got some pictures of the event and we will try to get them printed in the August Villager. Organize a Block Party for your street ! You'll see old f riends . meet new neighbors and have a great time like the Woodley Road Residents did!

A meeting was hel d at the Community Building at 8:00 PM, Monday, June 24th to review a proposal for a new shopping center development which should be of major concern to every resident of Minerva Park .

Devel opers are proposing to construct a new major shopping center, to incl ude a large department store and many small stores, on the l and just south of the Ra intree Center . It would enter and exit from Clevel and Avenue and would add hundreds of cars to the already overloaded and narrow Cleveland ( ~ Avenue . ~oi,o<~O~b ~-\ \. f'f!),ooo ~Cl"'-~

As res i dents already know , i t i s extremel y difficult now to get in and out of our Park from Cleveland Avenue and thi s proposal would make it next to impossible unless changes are made in Cleveland Avenue itself.

Thi s wa s the fi r st of many meetings which will be held on this subject . We will make every effort to l et residents know in advance of the next meeting so that we can have good attendance and discuss ion to hopefully defeat the current propos i tion.

*** WE NEED A CO-EDITOR

Two months ago we printed an appeal for people to add to the Villager staff. We were very fortunate in having Naomi Marmorstein volunteer for the photographer role and she is now, in addition, taking on some reporting functions.

We still would like to have a co-editor, experienced or someone who wants to learn, to help plan and execute each issue. The Editor also needs help with advertising and reporting in general.

Please call Dick Horton (890-4322) if you might be interested or if you know of someone I might contact.
