GENERALOur Thermal Mass Flowmeters are for gas measurement. Their measuring principle takes advantage of the fact that calorie amount taken away from the heated sensor by a fluid flow is correlated to the mass flow. The sensor inserted in the process l ine samples a representative flowrate across the line to infer the total flowrate.

FEATURES (Insertion and In-line Types)1. A new generation of thermal dispersion flowmeters: Full digital control has eliminated the need of a bridge

circuit.2. Sophisticated and user friendly features: Simplified communication with USB interface, HART

communication feature, Profibus communication feature, RS-485 (Modbus) communication feature, Error logging feature (keeps a maximum of 200 error events in 16 different alarm types), Min./max. logging feature (records maximum and minimum readings in flowrate, fluid temperature, transmitter temperature), Trend memory feature (stores a maximum of 56 hours of flowrate / temperature trends).

3. Long life and high reliability. Plus increased maintainability.

MEASURING PRINCIPLE

In this circuit arrangement, the temperature of velocity sensor (heater) is controlled to maintain a constant temperature difference with respect to the fluid temperature.Since the heat quantity dissipated from the heater is a function of mass flowrate, the mass flowrate can be determined from the required heating power. Thanks to the all-welded sheath pipe, the sensor is protected from contacting external gas. Accordingly, there is no worry of corrosion and it is less affected by dust or mist.

•The relationship between pressure and maximum flow velocity (actual) is shown in the figure below.

FLOW RANGES, STANDARD PULSE UNIT(1) Baseline flow velocity (V*): 84m/s (normal)(2) Flow factor (F*)Calculate DRp (temp./pressure coefficient) by math formula shown below to decide F*.

DRp = (P+101.325) × (273.15+25)    101.325 (273.15+T)

P: Pressure [kPaG] T: Temperature [] DRp lower than 1.33:F*=DRp

DRp more than 1.33:F*=1.33

(3) Calibration flowrate V1

The maximum flow velocity Vmax that can be measured under the use conditions are calculated in the math formula shown below based on (1) and (2). Vmax = V* × F* [m/s (normal)] Select an appropriate calibration flow velocity V1 from the value within maximum flow velocity (refer to the product symbol shown in page 7).

(4) Maximum flowrate Qmax

From (3), maximum flowrate is Qmax = V* × F* × A × 3600 = Vmax × A × 3600 [Nm3/h] A = Cross section area of piping [m2]

(5) Precautionary notes on flow range selection1: The rated maximum flow velocity varies depending on the use conditions. If the maximum pipe flow velocity when you use the product is smaller than the rated maximum flow velocity, you can select the calibration flowrate range according to the maximum pipe flow velocity when you use the product. In this case, guaranteed maximum flow velocity is restricted to the calibration flowrate.2: Flow range is calculated based on the I.D. of SGP pipe unless otherwise specified. If pipe I.D. is significantly different or if pipe, duct corner, or gas kind, are not shown in the table at (6), consult the factory. In case the operating flow range of interest is not applicable, you may also seek our assistance for possible solutions with optional specifications.

※1:Min. sensitivity is the smallest flowrate the insertion type mass flowmeter can detect. Above the min. sensitivity rate, the meter can measure the flow but, if low cutoff rate is set somewhere above this level, the meter output is automatically clamped at zero for all flows below the low cutoff. Be sure to set the low cutoff rate above the min. sensitivity rate.※2:Any pulse unit can be set up in a range not exceeding 5Hz in pulse frequency. A precaution to remember: Since pulse width is adjustable, the maximum frequency may possibly be limited to somewhere below 5Hz depending on the pulse width chosen.

RETRACTOR UNIT Outline The retractor unit is a device for connecting and disconnecting an insertion type massflow meter without discharging line pressure. This device is used for application for which it is necessary to connect or disconnect a meter while feeding gas such as line whose sensor may be tainted or line that cannot be stopped after it is once operated. It is necessary to carry out selection according to customer's specifications. If you need a retractor unit, please contact our company.

Configuration The retractor unit is used in a combination with insertion type massflow meter. For the insertion type massflow meter, standard threaded type is used, however, the probe gets long by necessity because a certain level of stroke is necessary for insertion and removal. This length needs to be calculated and decided for each customer's specifications.

<Outline of operation> • The massflow meter is fixed by clamp 1. The clamp 1 moves upward and downward by rotating the handle. The massflow meter also moves upward and downward accompanied with this motion. • If you pull out the massflow meter up to the upper edge of ball valve and close the valve, the insulation from line can be enabled. • If the ball valve is opened, it is sealed with packing ground.

<Cautions> For the attachment of retractor unit, only vertical direction is available as a general rule. However, the attachment in other direction is also available by attaching a support.

SPECIFICATIONS OF UNIT Necessary units For the retractor unit, select necessary units depending on customer's specifications.

Precautions on specifications for retractor unit • As a ground packing is used at sealing part, slight leakage may occur depending on the tightening status of nut etc. Consequently, do not use the reactor unit for the application that cannot allow leakage at all. • With our company's hot tap type vortex flowmeter, only the drive unit (driving part such as handle) can be disconnected, however, with this retractor unit, only the mechanism part cannot be disconnected. • The retractor unit is designed giving consideration to weight saving, however, it is tall. Consequently, if the vibration of piping is large, large stress will be applied to the attachment part (boss and nozzle parts). Moreover, an unexpected trouble such as looseness of clamp due to vibration may be generated. Attach it to the position where vibration of piping is rarely generated.• As the retractor unit is made of stainless steel and aluminum, it can be installed out of doors, however, please plan to install it at the space under the eaves or indoors as much as possible not to attach sand or dust to the mechanism part (handle and screw part etc.) that moves clamp upward and downward. • It is necessary to study the corrosion resistance of material at each section depending on the corrosiveness of fluid. In case of corrosive fluid, please consult with our company preliminarily.

About codes represenging process pressure and process temperature in the part number

Process pressure

With normal pressure in the line to read in "PSIA" unit, the reading is represented by a 3-digit figure, rounding off decimals to the nearest whole number. Pressure conversion formula (kPa→PSI) is PSIA = (Pgauge×0.145) +14.7 where Pgauge : Gauge pressure (kPa G)

Example: If line pressure is 200kPa G, we obtain from the formula, (200×0.145) +14.7 = 43.7 …Rounding off decimals, 44 PSIA Transforming 44 into a 3-digit format → Code is 044.

Process temperature

Insertion type

With normal temperature in the line to read in "R (Rankine temperature)" unit, the reading is rounded off to a 4-digit figure. Temperature conversion formula (→°R) is R = (T + 273.15) ×1.8 where T : Line temperature ()

Example: If line temperature is 30 , we obtain from the formula (30 + 273.15) ×1.8 = 545.67 …Rounding off decimals, 546 °R Transforming 546 into a 4-digit format → Code is 0546.

In-line type With normal temperature in the line to read in "R (Rankine temperature)" unit, the reading is rounded off to a 3-digit figure. The procedure is the same except for the number resulting to be 3 digits.

< In case of sourcing >Make connections to terminals TB1-10, 11, and 13 with jumpers.NOTE: This product is not furnished with jumpers.

1. In case of product equipped with HART communication, connect HART communication device to analog output 1.2. Analog output keeps track within a range from 3.8 to 20.5mA even in underrange or overrange conditions, but if it exceeds this

range, the output saturates.3. In sourcing, the power and output are non-isolated. If isolation is desired to reduce noises or for other purposes, select sinking (an

external loop power source for analog output).

< Service Notes >

(4) Alarm pulse outputDriven by an SSR (solid state relay), the alarm/pulse output is a voltageless contact output. It is compatible with receiving instruments with contact-closure, open collector, or MOS-FET input. (No polarity)In case of product equipped with alarm/pulse output, the available combinations are shown below.

(5) Profibus DP1) Connection to network With Profibus DP network, multiple devices can be connected on the same line. To connect this device to Profibus DP network, do not use the spur line if at all possible, but use the daisy chain as shown in the figure below. However, if the transmission rate is 1,500kbps or less, there is no problem in the use of spur line.

2) Cable and grounding • For the cable, use the type A cable for Profibus communication if at all possible. • For the connection with most closed device, use at least 1m cable. • Ground each device properly as shown in the figure below and usually ground both ends of shielded wire of cable via conductor of the enclosure, etc. However, it is sometimes better to ground only one end of shielded wire depending on the grounding environment.

STANDARD PIPING INSTRUCTIONSTo derive the maximum benefit from your gas service mass flowmeter, it is essential that the velocity distribution of fluid entering the meter be as uniform as possible. Since ideal flow distribution is a prerequisite for accuracy assurance, straight pipes having the following lengths are required upstream and downstream of the meter, serving as flow straightening members. If it is difficult to secure required straight pipe lengths, use flow straighteners.

• Use shielded cables conforming to the specifications.• Use appropriate crimp-type sleeves for preparation of conductors at cable end.• Do not fail to earth ground the transmitter's ground terminal.• Orient cables pointing downward from cable entrance to prevent rainwater and moisture from entering the transmitter.• Route cables sufficiently apart from existing high tension lines, power lines, power equipment and the like, to minimize stray current pickup.• In an area where frequent lightening strikes are anticipated, take into consideration the provision of an arrestor. (The cable lead-in and blind plug are available optionally. If necessary, add them when ordering the flowmeter.)• Use cable lead-in that fits the O.D. of cable used.

Wiring Guidelines

NOTE: Do not fail to locate a straight pipe 5D or longer downstream of the meter.

(1) Difficult to service (2) Rainwarer or foreign matter may enter from cable entry (outdoor installation).

If the metered fluid contains dust and mist in large quantities, provide a filter or separator, etc. upstream of the meter. To facilitate meter maintenance and servicing, we suggest to provide a bypass piping. A precaution to remember: Use full bore ball valves, or equivalent, which do not disturb the stability of flow pattern upstream and downstream of the meter. Avoid meter installation near the compressor, blower, reducing valve, control valve etc. Or pulsations, sound noises, etc. may produce large measurement errors. If installation near the source of pulsations is unavoidable, take effective countermeasures into consideration to attenuate pulsations by installing a buffer tank, accumulator, etc. between the meter and the noise source. Avoid installing in locations difficult to access for maintenance and servicing, subject to large temperature changes and excessive vibration, possibly immersed in water, corrosive gases could occur,

and unacceptable for explosionproof construction of this meter. In an installation in a vertical piping and outdoors, use the cable entry at the bottom to prevent rainwater from entering through cable entry. With the in-line type, use extra care to eliminate inaccurate centering and gasket protrusion. To ensure concentric alignment, use gaskets with bolt holes. A plastic blind plug for simple sealing is attached to the wireconnecting port at the time of shipment. This blind plug is provided for protecting the flowmeter during transportationand has no waterproof feature. Before installing the product, never fail to replace it with a waterproof and explosionproof blind plug to meet the installation environment.
