    Key Performance Indicators

    This chapter covers the following topics;

    y Network Performance Measurement

    Network PerformanceMeasurementIn GSM, performance of the network can be analyzed through KPIs. KPIsare the specific counters, which represent statistics of overall performanceof the network. Network performance judgment such as about resource

    status, service status or channel quality is possible through these statistics.Statistics comes from the basic measurement of the Control System.Degradation in the performance of the specific cells can be identified inOMCR by analyzing the KPIs. In this way specific problem can be resolvedaccordingly.

    Table 4 lists the entire Key Performance Measurement Counters.

    handover failure. It is the number of call drops due to all handoverminus call drops due to intra-BSC handover.

    Refer to the description of the counter C11715 in Section TCHFCounters Explanation.

    Calculation formula

    C116130 = C11624 - C11715

    C116131Definition

    Total TCH/H busy time

    Description

    It represents total seize time of each TCH/H in a cell. Total number of

    seize TCH/H in a cell shows TCH/H traffic in that cell.

    Refer to the description of the counter C11715 in Section ResourceAvailability Counters Explanation.

    Calculation formula

    C116131 = C11511

    BTS Measurement

    This chapter covers the following topics:

    y Power Control Measurement

    y TRX Service Measurement

    y Paging Messages Measurement

    y TRX Basic Measurement

    y TRX Power & Temperature Measurement

    Power Control MeasurementPower Control enables the mobile station and/or the BTS to increase ordecrease the transmission power on a per-radio link basis.

    Power Control is separately performed for the uplink and downlink. In bothcases the BSC is responsible for initiating Power Control; the mobilestation and the BTS adopt transmit power according to the BSC PowerControl commands.

    Two modes of power control are:

    y Normal power control

    y Rapid power control

    Amplitude of power adjustment in rapid control is greater than normalpower control.

    BTS regularly samples the power of MS and BTS itself, to obtain average

    power. BTS regularly reports the average power to BSC through PC TESTRPT message, for power control. Measurement report helps in analyzing

    the coverage quality as well as the effect and rate of power control.

    Power Control Counters Explanation

    C00001Definition

    Number of normal increase in MS power due to uplink signal level

    Description

    BTS periodically measures the uplink signal level. It calculates averagelevel value and sends this value to BSC. BSC compares the average

    level value with threshold value and decides normal increase in MSpower according to the power control algorithm.
