We are architects and engineers.

We are interior designers, planners, project and facilities managers.

Our work is about enhancing the experience of those who spend time in the environments we create.

Using color, texture, lighting and space, we aspire to make their research and its application the best it can possibly be.

We call that Human Potential Design.

Our work is also outcome-based. We measure its impact and its success with tools designed to support your strategic plan and vision.

We call these Operational Performance Gains.

We are a diverse collection of multidisciplinary specialists who think independently and work collaboratively, with each other and with you.

We create inspired solutions that improve lives through discovery, learning and healing.

We are BSA LifeStructures.

Scientific research doesn’t conform to traditional clocks.

Its revelations cannot be predicted or planned.

Discovery comes after years. It arrives in an instant.

Like the people who use it, the space requires equal adaptability.

From learning to translation, from application to production.

A bench, a room, a building. A place to question and collaborate, experiment and extrapolate.

Somewhere where someone can examine an idea from every possible angle,

then take one more look.

Because these are people in the business of discovery,

whatever business they’re in.

Creating a place wherethe answers uncovered today

can change tomorrow.

From discovery to therapeutic application, the growing Indiana University School of Medicine

research campus serves students, fellows, physicians and patients. Specialized classroom,

lab and treatment spaces can be repurposed as studies evolve.

Housed in structures as complex as the research and testing they facilitate, our labs are designed to

help people question why and question why not. We harness advanced technology and place it

where it can add the highest possible value — in human hands.

From the layout of the building, to the placement of the equipment, to the ergonomic design

of every bench, attention to detail defines the space. Natural intersections foster interdisciplinary

collaboration, while quiet alcoves invite private consideration. Sunlight floods in through

something not always seen in laboratory design — windows. We give technicians and researchers

something else to look for — a view.

While details define the space, the dynamics of research refine it.

We design our labs to adapt and transform — what people study and how they learn,

what they know and how they use it.

A pneumatic tube system feeds samples from three urban hospitals into a central lab.

Here, more than seven million tests are performed annually in specialized spaces for

anatomic and clinical pathology. Operating on a 24/7 clock, the facility also serves as a

reference lab for hospitals and physician offices outside the Indiana University Health system.

A drug therapy that stops disease. A medical device that prevents injury. A collection of records or samples that document process and demonstrate progress.

From vision, to validation, to scale-up and manufacturing, commercial laboratories require a specialized kind of design — equal parts science and business.

Facilities must meet stringent requirements, yet do so without sacrificing profitability and productivity.

Technology planning is paramount. Security issues are often amplified. Storage and shipping capabilities must be built in.

The space itself must do more than accommodate scientists; it must attract and retain them. The environment must do more than provoke thought; it must produce.

In addition to flexible, quick-to-configure lab space, we build in shared amenities including

conference rooms, classrooms, meeting rooms and break rooms. We outfit each incubator with

the infrastructure required to leverage the latest technology. We build the technology plan to

address the inevitable advancements and keep clients ahead of the curve.

We surround scientists with the structure necessary to formulate and develop their business plans

and products. We create a professional environment where they can invite and impress investors.

We do both at a per-square-foot cost that keeps the space filled and its economic contribution

to the community increasing.

We give scientists a place and a path to move from discovery to enterprise.

We give them the space and support to transform PIs into CEOs.

Giving ideas an address all their own.

The people in our incubators are growing more than a body of knowledge.

They’re growing businesses.

Tenant space can be easily configured as a wet lab, dry lab or office. Time to occupancy

is generally less than 30 days. As members of the incubator, businesses have access to shared

resources including office equipment and support staff, conference and meeting rooms...

plus their very own United States Postal Service® mailbox and address.
