Programs Spring 2019 Programs
Many Thanks to our Members who are providing their time to create these terrific programs for our club. One of our goals this year is to provide a variety of painting mediums and provide skill builders. A foundation of decorative painting is strokework, and Linda Kapp's February program which kicked off 2019, was a great success. Jeannine Lewis was able to reschedule her January Bunny Class to March. It was a gentle first step into oil painting for our members who are acrylic painters, and those who started out in oils enjoyed stepping back in. We had a blast, and we’re ready for Easter!

April 20, 2019 This year, our Memory Box Program will be in April. Elaine Moran will be teaching a lovely Dragonfly design, using Derwent’s Inktense Colored Pencils. The base coat color of the box lid is Decoart’s Blue Haven. The pencils will be available for your use in class. May 18, 2019 In May, Members are encouraged to bring their UFOs (Unfinished Object) to work on. This is a great place to get “unstuck” and finish any of those pieces hanging around your paint room. Your painting pals will be here to assist with any problems and share a few laughs. June 15, 2019 June’s Program will be a Chinoiserie Gold Painting taught by Lois Eckert. The program will be "painting" with bronzing powders. (See page 4) Chinoiserie--(shen-waz-a-re) is a style in art reflecting Chinese qualities or motifs. Give me a call or text at 717.433.0970 or send an email to me at [email protected] if you are planning on attending any or all of these programs. Although RSVPs are not required to attend our meetings, it really helps us set up the room and plan for refreshments if you let us know your plans. Looking forward to our July Meeting on July 13, 2019, Hattie Ogle will be teaching a project making boxes from Christmas Cards.

Presidents Message
WOW! We had two wonderful programs in February and March. It is so nice having monthly
get togethers to share our love of painting.
Jeannine Lewis did a great job sharing her talent in oils with the Snow Bunny designed by Sherry
Nelson.
I had a fun time teaching Heather Redick’s strokework pattern. I hope everyone who was able to
join us had as much fun as I.
In April, I look forward to painting Elaine Moran’s design on a memory box.
Our May Fun Day is a great opportunity to finish one or two UFO’s that you have at home just
waiting to be completed. Unfortunately, I will not be at the May meeting but I will be in Wichita for
the last SDP Convention with Dee DeLorenzo.
Then our June program will be Lois Eckert teaching Chinoiserie Gold Painting. Please see this
newsletter for necessary information about these events. If more information is necessary, an
email will be shared with the group.

At the Board Meeting in March, the board discussed the topic brought up at the February Meeting.
Should we be paying our members to teach the program? If so, how much? Should we cover any
expenses? The full report will be in the Board Meeting Minutes but I want to share now. The
Board stuck to their earlier decision to not pay for the program but we will cover expenses.
We really need receipts for all expenses but understand that many of us have the ability to print
from a home computer. We will reimburse .12 cents for black and white copies and .50 cents for
colored copies. In addition, if you provide the paints, $1 per person for palette. If you don’t want to
be reimbursed, it will be a donation and would appreciate an expense sheet stating “Donation”.

MEMORY BOX Program
Current inventory - Twenty painted boxes and sixteen unpainted boxes. Dottie Shultz delivered
seventeen boxes in January and sixteen boxes in March to Pinnacle Health. Our memory box
program is scheduled for Saturday April 20th -- Elaine Moran will be our instructor. We will be using
her original design.
Please RSVP to me at [email protected] or 717-462-9323 if you are planning on attending.
I will also need to know if you need me to prep a box. The box lids can be prepped in Blue Haven
or a similar color. I will email additional prep instructions closer to April 20th.
Barb Lehman Chair, Memory Box Program
Ways and Means Report:
I will be bringing some ornaments to the meeting for members to take to start to prepare for the fall
craft show that we are hoping to do.
Dottie Shultz donated many ornaments for us to paint.
This is a good way to use that left over paint on your palette when finished with a project.

Penns Woods Painters Chapter General Membership Meeting Minutes
February 16, 2019
Linda Kapp called the meeting to order at 11:24 am
11 members were in attendance
Linda was prepared to install the new officers at this meeting, but since only two were in
attendance, she will delay it till March16.
Secretary: A motion was made by Deb Rhoads to accept the previous minutes as printed in the
newsletter. Linda Kapp seconded, motion passed.
Treasurer: Hattie gave the Treasurer’s report opening balance $7,791.13; Income $620;
Expenses $656.25; ending balance $7,754.88. The report will be filed for audit
VP Programs: Dee at Pebble Beach, Linda reported for Dee:
The March meeting will be Jeannine Lewis teaching the Snow Bunny that was cancelled in
January. The April meeting will be a Memory Box project taught by Elaine Moran - Dragonflies
using the intense ink pencils. Dottie did mention that the April date is the day before Easter and
may not be well attended. Elaine can still teach that day so they will go ahead using that date.
May meeting will be painting UFOs, bring a project to paint or finish. Linda will be at SDP
conference this day but there was not another date available for the meeting. There will not be a
business meeting in May. July meeting – Box made from old Christmas cards. Hattie reminded
everyone to look for red and green yarn, old Christmas cards, and old white cardboard gift boxes to
cut for a liner for the boxes. These are the supplies that will be need for the project.
Membership: Jeannine Lewis could not attend but sent a report that we have 22 members and
one lifetime member for a total of 23.
Committees:
Memory Box: Barb Lehman
Barb reported that 17 boxes were delivered to UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg in January. We
currently have 30 painted boxes, mostly small ones, and 27 unpainted. She will see about ordering
more boxes. The Memory Box Paint-in will be at the April meeting.
Hospitality: Betty Lou Zimmerman thanked everyone for bringing items for coffee break and lunch.
Treasure Boxes: In Linda Fleming’s absence, Barb Lehman reported for her that Barb delivered
14 boxes to Caitlin’s Smiles. Caitlin’s Smiles posted pictures of the boxes on their Facebook page
and there were a lot of favorable responses.
Ways and Means: Lois will continue as Ways and Means chair. She discussed doing the
Mechanicsburg Women’s Club show again on October 26, 2019. She would like to have some
large objects for sale this year. Dottie volunteered to donate a few items. The general thought was
to try again this year and see how we do.
Seminars: No Chair
Website: Jane is in Florida. The January newsletter is posted on the website.
![Page 11: Brushstrokes - WordPress.com · get “unstuck” and finish any of those pieces hanging around your paint room. Linda Kapp and Dee DeLorenzo will be at Convention, so no meeting](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022042910/5f3fa714733fa8185478bb0a/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)

Newsletter: Sylvia Bean reported she hopes to attend in March. She did do the January
newsletter
Tea and Art Show: No Chair, scheduled for October 6, 2019. Someone reported that they thought
Jeannine had volunteered to chair the committee. Linda will check with Jeannine.
New Business:
Hattie asked if anyone remembered talking about doing a project using cloth tape measurers, she
has accumulated about 25. No one remembered a discussion about them
Betty Lou Zimmerman brought up about paying members to teach. Most felt the $100 and $200
that was previously passed was excessive. Bobbi Brady suggested that they be paid $50 plus
supply costs.
Discussion followed with pros and cons. If we pay what happens if there is a morning teacher for
the skill builder and an afternoon for the projects, do each get $50 or is it split, if we pay the
teachers can we afford to have a free seminar with Sandy Scales in October, or will we have to
charge for it? Some contributed they really teach because they like sharing with the members and
would prefer not to be paid with just supply costs being covered. It was finally decided that the
Board would discuss at their next meeting. With only 11 members present we did not have 50% of
the membership in attendance and we did not have a copy of the constitution or bylaws to confirm
if we needed 50% or 2/3’s for a quorum.
Fran Huffman asked if we have any seminars planned and was told not as we do not have a
seminar chair.
Other Business:
Linda requested an update on Pat Meyers which Dottie gave. Jackie, Carol Henry and
Dottie visited with Pat. She is doing well and appreciates visits, calls and cards.
Fran Huffman asked about the setup times for the Messiah Art Shows. Linda said we are
scheduled for April, August and December this year. She will email the setup date and time as
soon as she has it for April.
Show and Tell: Fran share a picture from Painting World Magazine that had a picture of Fran and
Lois Eckert in a class at a Painting World Seminar.
Elaine Moran showed a Mrs. Santa she painted to go with the Nancy Lenski Santa that Joyce
taught.
Motion to adjourn made by Fran Hoffman, seconded by Lois Eckert. Motion passed. Meeting
adjourned at 12:31 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Dottie Shultz for Jackie Nowak.
