TOYS FOR TOTS SHOW
December 8, 2019
Stuart Corvette Club
Besides shopping, what else was there to do on Sunday, December 8th in Stuart? If you
said attend the Stuart Corvette Club’s TOYS FOR TOTS Corvette show, you are right
on target! Thirty-one gleaming Corvettes, two from Wayne’s Collision Center, made
their way to Wallace Chevrolet for the show. The weather was nice, too. Many of the
club member’s cars were decorated, making for lots of additional color and a Christmas
theme. In keeping with the Christmas theme, nutcracker trophies were awarded to
thirteen members based on a vote by those present. All of the Corvettes were winners!
$1,297 in cash and a pile of toys was collected. Wallace Chevrolet and Wayne’s Collision
Center, as well as some members who could not attend made cash donations. The Board of
Directors would like to thank all those who attended and/or worked the show. A special
thanks to Pat and Dick Aziere for assembling the trophies. If you could not attend this
year, plan on joining us next year for a similar event. It is lots of fun and you get a
chance to meet other members and hear about their Corvettes!

Toys for Tots Car Show Results
December 8, 2019
I first would like to thank the 31 members that showed up for the Toys for Tots car show and made this
show a success. I would also like to thank Wallace Chevrolet, Wayne's Collision and members that did
not show, however, contributed to this wonderful event. Wallace Chevrolet in addition to a large
cash contribution made their facility available for the show, which is deeply appreciated. Wayne's
Collision, in addition to a cash contribution also contributed toys, two wonderful bikes and brought two
beautiful cars to the show. All in all, it was a successful show with help from Wallace, Wayne's Collision
and members. We raised $1,297.00 and lots of toys.
This club has 97 members and unfortunately only 31 members showed up for this wonderful event,
very disappointing. This club subsidizes Thanksgiving, Christmas and our Spring picnic so it would be
nice if more members could get involved. I understand with the holidays many members are traveling
and have company and therefore attending this event might not be possible. However, arrangements can
be made, as some members have done, to bring a $15 dollar toy or a small contribution to make this event
even a bigger success. Please, for next year consider getting involved so we can make this show an even
bigger success.
Best Regards to our members and their families for the Holidays.

SCC Holiday Party 2019 at Shucker’s
I would like to thank the 66 members who attended the SCC holiday party on Saturday
December 14th. Thanks to Barry Hinken for taking pictures, Harry Wyrtzen for reading
the left-right story, Pat Aziere for supplying the beautiful cake, Ed Vossen from Wallace
Chevrolet for bringing door prizes that were raffled off and special thanks to Dick and
Lucy Kesler for supplying the music and making the party a success. Shuckers again did
an excellent job with the food and service. I heard no complaints so that’s a good thing.
Next years’ party will be held on Saturday, December 12th. I am looking forward to doing
this holiday party again next year.

Stuart Corvette Club Announces 2020 Corvette River Cruise-In has been cancelled
The Corvette River cruise-In Show began in Fort Pierce in 1999 as a Saturday show with 35 Vettes
participating. As the years continued and the Marina venue was available, we saw increased attendance
and hit our peak of 175 cars in the show field in 2005.
As years went on, we had to move to Veterans’ Memorial Park as we couldn’t coexist with the highly
successful Green Market but thanks to our attendees, we were able to move back to City Marina as a
Sunday Show.
Over the years we had several car show chairs such as Steve Welch, Ron Nowak, Russ Sobczak, Dick
Kesler and John Hosler. Each chair added something new to our show including making our show a
judged show versus participant judging for our visiting participants and also creating new trophies for
SCC members with a peak of almost 60 trophies and we were generally known for our overstuffed goody
bags.
As our show progressed, we added Dash Card Ad Sponsor Trophies, Vendor Appreciation Trophies,
Sponsor Trophies, President’s Choice Trophies’, Shining Star Awards as well as area restaurant discount
coupons, food vendors and started including bottles of water, sunscreen and hand wipes in our goody
bags.
Over the years we have always had the help from well over 50 Stuart Corvette Club members who
volunteered their time in planning and/or executing our show and as Club President I am grateful for all
those who have helped make the Corvette River Cruise-In a “must attend” event over the years.
We are also very appreciative of Mother Nature who blessed us with great weather except for the
washout of 2017 but thanks to those 75 show participants who braved the monsoon like weather that year
and attended.
For 2020, we are at a crossroads as we have been unable to identify a successor to John Hosler
who has been our Show Chair for the last 9 years.
We really appreciate all your support and the support of the approximately 25 Corvette Clubs as well as
other non-Corvette clubs who have been attendees in our shows over all the years. We hope to find a club
member or perhaps two to be co-chairs so that we can bring back the Corvette River Cruise-In for 2021
and beyond and look forward to being able to announce that.

Did you ever see slots in the vehicles brake
rotor and wonder why? For some it is a
fashion statement but they do serve a purpose.
The slots help evacuate dust build up between
the pad and the rotor in a self-cleaning
manner. Slots also help to prevent the pad
stress from cracking which allows a degree of
thermal expansion.
We want to wish everyone a Happy and
Healthy New Year!

Brunch with Barry (Will resume in January) Hi Everyone,
This month 15 members got together and cruised to Harry and the Natives in Hobe Sound. We did have
a little mix up with the restaurant for they thought we were supposed to have been there last week. But
fortunately, the restaurant was not that busy and they quickly set things up for us and the service and
food was great.
Our wonderful leader Barry just got home from the hospital and he was missed but all went well and
according to his directions. Get well soon Barry.
Great Friends and Cars, Life if Good, cheers to all.

Corvette History
After 124,596 coupes (52.5%), 78,170 (32.9%) convertibles, 6,121 (2.6%) fixed roof coupes and 28,388
(12.0%) Z06s for a total C-5 production of 237,275 the C5 ends with the 2004 model year. Let’s look at the
last 3 years of this 5th Generation.
2002 – 14,760 coupes, 12,710 convertibles and 8,297 Z06s for total production of 35,767.
Most changes for 2002 were in the Z06 with HP increased from 385 to 405 thanks to Lighter valves were
used and the exhaust valves were liquid filled. Modifications to the intake resulted in better breathing. Two
catalytic convertors were used where four used to do the job in 2001 and a revised higher lift camshaft was
used. Different rear shock absorber settings and a beefier front anti-sway bar upgraded the handling.
2003 – 50th Anniversary of the Corvette – 14,022 coupes, 12,710 convertibles and 8,635 Z06s for total
production of 35,469.
Corvette owners celebrated the 50th with parties, caravans, a road tour involving conventions, Nashville KY,
the Corvette Museum and the Bowling Green manufacturing facility. In 2002, Corvette was the honored
marque at the Monterey historic automobile races in August. The success of the Corvette was said to be a
tribute to the fact that it never lost sight of its original intentions: fast affordable fun with an abundance of
style and pizzazz.
A 2003 Corvette paced the 2002 Indy 500. Although no pace car replicas were available, an Indy 500 decal
package could be had for $495.00.
2004 – last of the 5th Generation – production was 16,165 coupes, 12,216 convertibles and 5,683 Z06s for
total of 34,064.
Special C5 Corvette race cars, with the designation of C5-R had seen consistent success in the most
demanding race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This was a factory effort which had resulted in podium finishes
(third place or better) in the last 29 races and victories in the last 20 races.
A special Commemorative Edition, recognizing the Le Mans successes, was available for 2004. It consisted
of a LeMans blue paint with silver/red center striping, Commemorative badges on the front bumper and rear
deck, a shale interior with seat embroidery, an emblem on the interior waterfall area of the convertibles and a
shale convertible top.
The Z06 Commemorative Edition came with polished aluminum wheels. Suspension tweaks improved
handling of the Z06 without a sacrifice in ride quality.
Next month – the 6th Generation
