MASTER OF ISLAMIC ECONOMICS
The Master of Islamic Economics was established to promote Malaysia as a center of
excellence in education and training in economics, banking and finance. This program will
train students in the field of Islamic economy that ultimately provide trained manpower to the
local and global financial and industrial sectors. The program is also designed to increase the
capacity of trained manpower capable of performing research in this area and provide the
needed human resource for next generation education in Islamic economic. This program is
suitable for economics or shariahgraduates.
Admission Requirements
Candidates who possess the following qualifications are eligible to apply for this programme:
Bachelor of Economics with high cumulative grade point average from institution of
higher learning recognized by the Senate; or
Foreign students are required to achieve a TOEFL of at least 550 or IELTS band 6, or
other English proficiency score recognized by the Senate.
Period of Study
The period of full-time study is two (2) to four (6) semesters, while part-time study is four (4)
to ten (10) semesters.
Programme Structure
This programme has two modes of study; coursework and thesis.
(A) Coursework (40 units)

Theory and Practice of Takaful
Academic Paper (8 units)
An academic paper should not be more than 20,000 words (not including footnotes,
abstract, appendices, formulae, tables, diagrams, etc).
(B) Thesis
A masters thesis should not exceed 50,000 words (not including footnotes, abstract,
appendices, formulae, tables, diagrams, etc).
