Dear Parents and Guardians, With only 2 weeks left of school for Term 3, students and teachers continue to be enthralled in their Project, ‘To Infinity and Beyond’. Please ask your children what exciting things they are learning. It has been lovely to see so many students excited about their new learning, and I’m often asked “Mrs Burley, do you know…” Seeing students so excited and enthusiastic is wonderful. We should soon receive Yr 3 and Yr 5 NAPLAN results. Once we have received the student reports we will send them home. Early indications show some great improvements in reading, writing and numeracy. Our students TTFM (Tell Them From Me) survey results also show growth and improvements in a number of areas. Students respond to a number of questions about their school, learning, environment, effort, and other aspects of their teaching and learning. These are some of our results: Students who are interested and motivated in their learning, increased from 57% of students in 2018
to 83% of students in 2019 Students who try hard to succeed in their learning, increased from 77% students in 2018 to 86% of
students in 2019 Students find classroom instruction relevant to their everyday lives, increased to 8.0 in 2019 to be
above NSW Government School Norms Students feel they have someone at school who consistently provides encouragement and can be
turned to for advice, increased to 8.5 in 2019 to be well above the NSW Government School Norms Some of our greatest gains have been in student aspirations and their expectation to continue their education onto University.

These results are very pertinent as they show us what our students are thinking and feeling about their schooling. To see these positive results is an indication that our teaching and learning changes over the past 2 years is engaging our students, and providing them with high quality learning opportunities and relationships. There are also some areas for improvement which we will take on board also, with a hope to increasing our student’s sense of belonging at school.

Alpha Show Students had a great time at the Alpha show last week, with lot of giggles and belly laughs as they enjoyed the ‘Cinderella’ Show.
Head lice We have again received some reports of head lice, please check and treat your children’s hair. Teachers regularly discuss health and hygiene practices with their students, and we would appreciate you also talking to your children about these healthy practices. There may be an opportunity for the Departments Nit Buster program to be delivered at school, however this program is an opt in/opt out parent ran program. If you are interested in running this program please make an appointment to see Mrs Burley.

Year 6 Farewell The Year 6 students, families and staff will be celebrating the class of 2019 graduation at ‘The Barn’ on Wednesday 4th December. More info will be sent out when things are locked in.
K‐2 Parents Notice for parents/guardians with boys at Broke PS: If you child is coming home without any undies please let us know; over the past few months there have been a number of boys underpants left in the toilet block, urinal, and bin. The class teachers are reminding students of bathroom etiquette, however these incidents continue to occur.
Bilbies News The Bilbies have become little scientists with our project ‘What’s on Earth and Above?’ We have been learning all things seasons, living things, weather and water cycle. Prior to learning about the water cycle, the students were asked why they think rain happens. These were some of the responses: ‘The sun is mean and burns the clouds and makes them cry’ ‘The clouds get sweaty from the hot sun and the sweat drips down on us’ Students understanding of the water cycle and seasons will be further developed as we take on our mini outcome 2, building a terrarium and bush tucker garden! The brains in the Bilbies class love being challenged, knowing that their brain is a muscle and gets stronger every time they struggle with their learning. This has led to some great academic leaps in the class as students can now identify number in their thousands and are reading and writing more difficult texts every week. We look forward to entertaining you at our next end of term assembly!
