OBJECTIVE CSJ aims to bring together young lawyers,
who recognize the importance of safeguard-
ing and extending the rights of the vulnera-
ble and marginalised sections of society,
who seek to fight against injustice, who
work to maintain and protect the rights of
those who suffer, and who look upon the
law as an instrument for the protection of
the people rather than for their repression.
We have learnt a lot of lessons from our
work at the grassroots. Often, the struggle
of a social justice lawyer is full challenges.
This event is designed as a space for expres-
sion of solidarity and is meant to be a plat-
form for sharing experiences and learnings.
SESSIONS Social justice has been coming up as an excellent
area of practice for the lawyers who possess the
courage to fight injustice. Social justice lawyering is
about lawyers working hard so that people whose
rights are violated obtain justice.
This two-day meet will comprise of sessions where
renowned speakers will share experiences on use
of law as a tool of social change, human rights inter-
ventions, and court room practice.
Presentation by the speakers will be on the issues
most common in the country, such as rights of
women, rights of minorities, of legitimization of in-
formal work, of legitimization of informal work by
promoting advocacy on human rights.
PARTICIPANTS
The event can be attended by lawyers practicing on social issues in the Lower Courts, High
Court and the Supreme Court. Lawyers who want to gain knowledge from first-hand experienc-
es of renowned social activists and human rights advocates may also attend the event.
The event is also open to undergraduate and postgraduate students of law.
All participants will be awarded a certificate of participation.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
The programme will commence at 8:30 am on 13th June,2014 Participants are requested to reach the
venue on or before the said time positively.
Prior registration for participation is compulsory. Those interested to participate have to register

Accommodation for participants will be provided on request during two days of the Meet. Request for ac-
commodation must be made in the Registration Form. The availability of accommodation is limited
and will be provided on a first come-first serve basis.
A registration fees of Rs. 1500/- will be charged from those seeking accommodation. The registration fees
for others is Rs. 750/-. Demand Draft in favour of: IDEA CSJ , Payable at: AHMEDABAD along
with cover letter including your full name and address.
Participants will have to bear their own expenses towards travel.
All participants must produce a valid identity card at the time of entry.
Attendance during all two days of the event is compulsory.

About Centre for Social Justice
Centre for Social Justice (“CSJ”), established in 1993, is a
human rights organisation fighting for the rights of the mar-
ginalised and vulnerable. Inspired by Freiran thought, CSJ has
been active in more than ten States across India making hu-
man rights interventions by using law as a key strategy
through an intimate engagement with grassroots’ realities.
CSJ fulfills its mandate by training and strengthening commu-
nity lawyers and paralegals by building their capacities to
deliver change-inducing leadership in their communities
through a network of law centres; one of CSJ’s core compe-
tencies relates to their capacity-building initiatives, a flagship
example being their Lawyers For Change (“LFC”) fellowship
programme. A pioneer in the field of access to justice, CSJ
has also made path-breaking institutional interventions in the
form of research, legal reforms and initiatives bringing to-
gether grassroots activism, law and policy-making on a wide
array of issues affecting women, dalits, adivasis, minorities
and other socio-economically vulnerable groups.
At present, CSJ is engaged in action-research, advocacy,
training, and capacity building across the following thematics:
Law, Society & Culture in the Adivasi Context
(Dang District, Gujarat)
Rights of Persons living in Coastal Areas (Gujarat)
Socio-Economic Rights of Minorities (Rehnuma Cen-
tres in 12 States)
Socio-Economic Rights of Vulnerable Groups (Law
Centres in Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh)
Action-Research Study towards Building Rule of Law
Communities in Villages (Gujarat and Rajasthan)
National Campaign on Access to Justice.
CSJ aspires to position itself as providing linkages between
human rights issues at the village and district level and the
research being done at the policy level. Today, it is recog-
nized as a pioneering institution in terms of demonstrating
what a well networked group of social justice lawyers can
do one hand and the role of paralegals as the bridge be-
tween society and institutional legal systems on the other.
