Family Devotional March 22, 2020 A Note to Parents This devotional guide is an easy-to-follow opportunity to engage your children and encourage their spiritual life as we all choose to worship in our homes due to social distancing. Children need an opportunity to process recent events. And, in a similar way to parents, children feel a lack of control about these events. Parents, your spiritual leadership can go a long way in guiding them to trust God with the unknowns. Be Confident! Be Creative. God purposed you to lead your children into deeper faith. Instructions 1) Gathering: Call your family together and explain to them your goals for a family devotional. You may have to discuss with them what a family devotional is. 2) Prayer: God is always present but it is good to calm our hearts and minds enabling us to focus on God before the beginning of the devotional time. 3) Broadway Kid Connection: The Kid Connection video introduction sends a greeting to the kids from some of their Bible class teachers and explains the goals of the at home Bible study time. It also introduces the Bible story. 4) Bible Story: Play the Saddleback kids video from YouTube. Here is the link to the elementary and preschool videos. We encourage parents to read this story from Scripture in addition to using the videos. See Genesis 37 5) Questions: How do you think Joseph felt when he was given the coat by his father? How did he feel when his brothers betrayed him? Do you think that Joseph felt alone? Do you feel alone sometimes? What does it mean to you that God is with you? What can you do to know that God is always with you? 6) Activity: Praying for Friends Each family member needs a piece of paper. Or, if you are brave, use whiteboard marker on a window. Name all the people that are important to your family. Make a long list. Then, take a moment to pray for each person. Ask God to draw you towards people that may feel lonely. Then, make a plan as a family to call or FaceTime each person in the next week. Remind them that God is always with them.
