Health and environment

Design is one thing. Health is another. For more and more people, health

aspects play a central role when deciding for or against a product. That‘s

why the Brillux range offers you products that are compatible to both

the environment, but also to health for almost every interior application:

aromatics-free or water-based paints and primers, solvent-free ELF wall

coatings as well as allergen-free materials. And, of course, everything in

Brillux top quality.

Coatings and wall and floor coverings can be evalu-

ated under various quality labels. Based on health-

related quality standards, architects and builders can

select products that are oriented toward both envi-

ronmental and health compatibility.

„TÜV Nord“ tested: Suitable for

allergy sufferers

„TÜV Nord“ (Northern German Techni-

cal Control Board) has confirmed the

suitability of Brillux wall finishes and

floor coverings for allergy sufferers

with its „Suitable for allergy sufferers“

quality seal. The spectrum of the

health-conscious Brillux renovation

system extends from silicate paints to

paste and wood-chip products up to

floor coverings.

Special quality labels for floor co-

verings

The GUT label (GUT = the Association

for Environmentally Friendly Carpets)

certifies, among other things, that

the tested floor covering contains no

hazardous substances. Additionally,

TÜV Hessen (Hessian Technical Con-

trol Board) and the Textile & Flooring

Institute GmbH (TFI) certify the health

and ecological aspects of floor co-

verings with the TÜV-PROFiCERT seal.

Products for flooring installation such

as flooring adhesives and floor leveling

compounds are endowed by GEV (As-

sociation for the Control of Emissions-

in Products for Flooring Installation,

Adhesives and Building Materials) with

the Emicode Seal and reported EC1 or

EC1Plus as (very)low emission.

ELF: Entirely without solvents

All products with this designation are

low emission, solvent-free and plastici-

zer-free – they do not contain plasti-

cizers or so-called high boilers, and

are therefore free from fogging-active

substances. This means that volatile

organic compounds that pollute the

environment and directly affect health

have been eliminated from Brillux ELF

coatings. Because Brillux ELF disper-

sions are as biologically harmless as

possible, they are recommended for

use in living and working areas, as well

as in sensitive environments such as

kindergartens, schools, and hospi-

tals. At the same time, their excellent

product and application properties,

leveling, application time and covering

power are impressive.

“TÜV Süd“ tested: Independently

controlled quality

The outstanding quality of Brillux ELF

coatings is confirmed by TÜV Süd-

deutschland (Southern German Tech-

nical Control Board) with its Certifica-

tion Mark. The most stringent current

independent test procedure regularly

certifies Brillux emulsions, not only

for their excellent health compatibility,

but also for consistently good product

properties.

The German Committee for Health-Re-

lated Evaluation of Building Products

(AgBB) has developed a universal

rating scheme, which evaluates the

emissions of volatile and semivolatile

organic compounds from building

products and can be used to assess

homes and communal areas. Brillux

also orients itself with this standard.

An ever increasing number of products

fulfill the AgBB criteria.

EN 71-3: Safety for both children

and adults

Brillux paints and glazes not only

provide a good living and working

atmosphere. They also guarantee that

your customers of tomorrow can play

safely today because aromatics-free

and water-based products from Brillux

comply with the so-called „Toys Safety

Directive“ EN 71-3. This means that

these paints are resistant to saliva and

hand perspiration and are therefo-

re even suitable, e.g., for coating

children‘s toys.

Blue Angel: Compatible to both

health and the environment

Since 1978, the Blue Angel has been

setting standards for environmentally

compatible products and services,

and is the leading and best-known

eco-label worldwide. Living in health-

compatible surroundings with the Blue

Angel: Only products that have an

extremely low pollutant content or that

contain recycled materials are entitled

to use this ecolabel. In addition to their

lead in terms of environmental and

health compatibility, these products

are also synonymous with high quality

Wherever a first class, high-perfor-

mance finish is required, Sensocryl

ELF demonstrates its strengths – in

medical practices, hospitals, laborato-

ries, and storage facilities for food or

hightech products. These coatings are

resistant to disinfectants and easy-to-

clean.

But Sensocryl ELF is also ideal for

the home thanks to its high covering

power, a very bright shade of white,

low susceptibility to soiling and perfect

leveling for top quality surface results.

Preservatives are among the most

highly allergenic substances. We do

not use critical additives of this type in

the production of our health-compa-

tible renovation system.

Our products are also free of solvents

and plasticizers.

An ever increasing number of people suffer from allergies – often wit-

hout knowing it. This can be caused, for example, by foods, as well

as by additives in textiles, cosmetics, paints or carpets.

For interior coatings, in addition to the

desire for low-emission, solvent-free

and plasticizer-free products, a desire

for preservative-free products is also

increasingly being expressed. Brillux

silicate products – such as Silicate

Interior Paint ELF 1806, Silicate Wall

Paint ELF 1807, Fine Silicate Climate

Plaster ELF 1808, Color concentrate

ELF 9018 and Kalisil Silicate Interior

Paint ELF 1809 – provide precisely

these properties. All these products

are based on the mineral bonding

agent potassium silicate, contain no

preservatives and are therefore gene-

rally suitable for allergy sufferers.

Preventing mold and mildew

Molds grow at temperatures of -4 ° C

to approximately +40 °C and prefer

humid, neutral substrates. They feed

on organic carbon compounds such

as dust, cellulose paste or damp

wood. Silicate products eliminate the

habitats of molds by ensuring that

surfaces remain dry due to their high

diffusivity and absorption capacity, as

well as a result of the high alkalinity of

surfaces. But, at the same time, they

still allow maximum creative freedom,

since all Brillux silicate products are

tintable with Color concentrate ELF

9018 and the Brillux Color System.

The result is a significantly reduced

writing effect. And if any marks do

appear, they can be removed carefully

using a microfiber cloth without affec-

ting the surface.

With Vetrolux ELF 3100, a matt interior

paint that largely reduces the writing

effect is now available. Vetrolux ELF

3100 contains special highly transpa-

rent functional fillers. These ensure

that the pigments on the surface are

better protected.

Until now, matt coatings had

a visual blemish whenever the

paint was used in mechani-

cally stressed areas – this is

the so-called „writing effect“.

It appeared after contact as

light marks on the surface. Any

attempt to remove the resulting

marks usually worsened the

effect.

Coating with Vetrolux ELF 3100:The highly transparent functional fillers contained in Vetrolux ELF 3100 reliably protect the pigments from damage. The writing effect is greatly reduced. Any marks that arise can be removed from the func-tional fillers using the microfiber cloth – the underlying pigments are not damaged and the surface is not affected.

Matt coating:With matt coatings, the pigments are partly exposed at the surface. This means that they can be damaged and crushed by me-chanical stresses. Glossy whitish markings remain – the writing effects.

Gloss coating:With gloss coatings, the color pigments are fully enclosed in the gloss bonding agent and are therefore optimally protected from any damage that could be caused by me-chanical stresses. This means that gloss coatings are not susceptible to writing effects.

Vetrolux ELF 3100 clearly reduces the wri-ting effect compared to conventional matt interior emulsions.

Any markings can also be removed from Ve-trolux ELF 3100 by using a damp microfiber cloth.

Aqualoma ELF 202, stubborn nicotine

contamination, water, grease or soot

stains can be covered in the interior

and safely isolated. It is suitable not

only for living spaces, but also for

other applications such as smoking

bars, restaurants, cafeterias or oil-

contaminated surfaces in the industrial

sector. Because no solvent is present,

renovated surfaces can be used again

immediately after drying.

Wherever stubborn nicotine contaminations, water, grease, or soot

stains require a coating with an isolating effect, Aqualoma ELF 202 is

the ideal solution. Because this isolating paint is not only water-dilutable,

low-emission, solvent-free and plasticizer-free (ELF), but also AgBB tes-

ted* – and is therefore recommended for living space.

Isoparaffin instead of white spirit

This is the recipe for success of our
