Remote Learning at Patcham Infant SchoolPSHE – Mental Health and Wellbeing

Today we’d like you to spend some time thinking and talking about how you will look after your mental health while at home. Do you remember learning about taking care of your mental health when you were in Reception? Perhaps you remember these characters and what they remind us to do. Notice the word

they are spelling out, this will help you to remember.

Speaking Suzie, Moving Mickey, Imagining Immie, Learning Leo and Enjoying Elsie.

Suzie reminds us that speaking about the things that are on our minds helps us to feel better. Use these sentence starters to talk with your grown-ups about the different things you are thinking and feeling.

I don’t like having to stay at home because…I do like staying at home because…I feel safe when…I didn’t realise that…

Mickey reminds us that moving helps us to be fit and healthy and also helps to improve our mood. What exercise will you do today? Try one-minute challenges. How many star jumps can you do in one minute? Tuck jumps? Press ups? Can you hold a plank position (or a ‘front support’, ‘back support’, ‘dish’ or ‘dome’) for a full minute? Try one of these exercise routines:

Go noodle ‘Banana Banana Meatball’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ9q4U2P3ig

Go noodle ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhfkYzUwYFk&list=PLzDOKY_V2NMa7S_1_37NSin1JKA46Butj

Immie reminds us that imagining helps us create and develop new ideas. Look at the picture.

Imagine you could step into your favourite story. Which story would you step into? What would happen in the story now that you are in it? Write down what would happen and draw a picture to illustrate your ideas.

Leo reminds us that learning new things makes us feel good too. Try to learn something new in your home today. Can you do the washing up? Can you fold your clothes? Can you change the sheets on your bed? Can you make your own sandwich at lunchtime? Remember, listen to your grown-ups about what might be a good thing to try!

Elsie reminds us to notice the things we enjoy and make sure we make time for them. Taking time to notice things in nature can make you feel calm and relaxed. When you go for a walk with your grown-ups, look out for signs of spring. Perhaps you could draw and label some of the things you find.
