SYNOPSIS

SHORT SYNOPSIS / LOGLINE (52 Words)Inspector 42 is the story of a 1950s shirt safety inspector who approves unsafe shirts to impress his boss and the girl of his dreams. When the shirts cause a series of horrific disasters, Inspector 42 must decide if he’s willing to tell the truth and face the consequences of his actions.

MEDIUM SYNOPSIS (115 Words)Inspector 42 is one of the brightest shirt safety inspectors at the Haggerty & Sons Shirt Company in the 1950s. After miscounting his morning quota one day, Inspector 42 decides to approve several unsafe shirts to impress his boss, Mr. Haggerty, and the girl of his dreams, Seamstress 61. These shirts prove to be more dangerous than he imagined as they come apart and start causing a series of horrific accidents.

Trying to recover from his mistake, Inspector 42, hides the truth of his actions. As more people get hurt, Mr. Haggerty is forced to lay people off. Inspector 42 must decide if he’s willing to tell the truth and face the consequences of his actions.

LONG SYNOPSIS (183 Words)Inspector 42 is one of the brightest shirt safety inspectors at the Haggerty & Sons Shirt Company in the 1950s. Each day, he places hundreds of small tags that read “Inspected by 42” in the pocket of each shirt he determines meet critical standards for safety.

After miscounting his morning quota one day, Inspector 42 decides to approve several unsafe shirts to impress his boss, Mr. Haggerty, and the girl of his dreams, Seamstress 61.

On their way to work, Inspector 42 and Seamstress 61 witness a terrible car accident caused when the driver’s shirt comes apart, entangling him in the steering wheel. Among the wreckage, Inspector 42 finds a tag bearing the incriminating statement: “Inspected by 42.”

Trying to recover from his mistake, Inspector 42 hides the truth of his actions and becomes obsessed with working harder on shirt safety. As more accidents occur, the District Attorney gets involved and forces Mr. Haggerty to lay people off while they search for the responsible parties.

Inspector 42 must then decide if he’s willing to tell the truth and face the consequences of his actions.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

There have been many times in my life when I have made mistakes. At times, I have consciously made wrong choices. These decisions have led to some of the darkest moments of my life. Sometimes, I feared that no one would really be there for me because of my actions and their consequences.

While, at face value, Inspector 42 is a comedic concept, the core story is personal and serious. It is based on my experiences and on the little bits of light I have found in darkness. Inspector 42 is a comedic drama from which I hope everyone will find truth and hope.

DIRECTOR/PRODUCER BIOS

NATHAN D. LEE (Writer/Director)

Nathan D. Lee has been working in the film industry for five years as a camera assistant and a producer’s assistant on films ranging from independent features, including Forever Strong (2008), to studio films, including High School Musical 3 (2009).

In 2006, Lee returned to school to get his bachelors degree in Media Arts from Brigham Young University, graduating in 2009. “Every movie set I am on, I learn. Eventually, I realized that my career

was teaching me how films were put together and I wanted to know more about what made films work and resonate with audiences. Film school taught me to be a more effective storyteller.”

LYVIA A. MARTÍNEZ (Writer/Producer)

Lyvia A. Martínez was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and always wanted to tell stories. Martínez earned her bachelors degree in Media Arts from Brigham Young University in 2010. She is currently pursuing a masters degree in screenwriting at Chapman University. Her favorite aspect of film is its versatility in telling stories, as well as what it borrows from other art forms. She hopes to one day write for a living, for anything ranging from film to television to theater to video games.

LUKE DRAKE (Inspector 42)Luke is a graduate of Brigham Young University, where his theater credits included Mike Conner in The Philadelphia Story, Lord Summerhays in Misalliance, Sy in Sy's Girl and Walker in Two Rooms. Past film credits include Mr. Dungbeetle, A Toy Princess, For Robbing the Dead and Danny Boyle's 127 Hours.

ALEXIS WARDLE (Seamstress 61)Alexis Wardle is from Mendham, New Jersey and recently graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. Past film credits include Diantha’s Crossing and The Grab. As a child, Wardle was seen on the TV show Highway to Heaven. Recent theater credits include, Rose in Dancing at Lughnasa, Beth in Little Women: the Musical, Grace in Dogville, Susan Hollander in Don’t Drink the Water, Kitty Verdun in Charley’s Aunt, Hero in Much Ado about Nothing, and Maria in Twelfth Night.

“I honestly believe this film is about as good as it gets. It can go toe-to-toe with any episode I’ve done, certainly, and most of what you see on your television screen. It presents a moral conundrum for the hero and, I’m quoting again from the Academy, ‘in a compelling, emotional and insightful way.’

“And not only does it do that, but I have to say that I watch a lot of films by a lot of young filmmakers, but this -- the casting, the performances, the shot selection, the look, the pace, the feel, the period art direction, the production design and, most importantly, the emotional payoff of this film showed a talent to be reckoned with at work.
