CCCommunity Outreach Academy is

focused on providing a rigorous instruc-

tional program and implementations of the

California Content Standards in all grade

levels. Additionally, we believe that char-

acter education and the emotional wellbe-

ing of our students is an integral part of development and

should be part of the students' learning at our school. An

essential part of COAs’ school culture and discipline ap-

proach of teachers and staff, is the implementation of Cap-

turing Kids Hearts (CKH). As the founder of CKH, Flip

Flippen stated, “before we can have the students’ attention

we must have his heart.” Each day in every classroom, you

will see the practice of engaging students, exploring their

needs, communicating the lessons clearly, empowering stu-

dents with knowledge and skills and launching them to face

their future.

Even though I am certainly not new to Gateway

Community Charters and COA Elementary, I am

in a bit of a different role this year. As a Student

Support Specialist I assist students and mentor

them through small groups or one on one. Over

the years there has been a growing need at our

school, to have a student advocate, a mentor to

help them manage any difficulties they may face

with peers, teachers or other adults. Each day that

a child comes to school, their life outside of school may

often affect how they behave or learn that day. I aim to pro-

vide reassurance and support, to assist our parents in any

way I can, and to lead our students to be the best versions of

themselves. My goal is to help students excel in every area

of their life and to launch them into the future with hope,

confidence and a well-rounded education. My role is multi-

faceted – by embodying the principles of CKH, I serve to

strengthen the school, home, community and family partner-

ships while working together with different stakeholders to

address the academic, social, behavior and emotional well-

being of all our students.

методики под названием ‘Привлечь Детские Сердца' (СKH).

Как выразился основатель данного подхода, Flip Flippen,

«прежде, чем мы привлечём внимание студента, мы должны

завоевать его сердце.» Каждый день, в каждом классе, вы

можете наблюдать, как учителя практикуют эту

методику, вникая в нужды студентов, общаясь с детьми во

время уроков, ясно излагая учебный материал, снаряжая

учеников знаниями/навыками и направляя их к успешному

будущему. Я уже давно работаю в Gateway Community Char-

ters и в начальной школе COA, но в этом учебном

году у меня немного другая роль (новая

должность). Как специалист по работе со

студентами - я буду помогать студентам,

работая с ними в небольших группах или

индивидуально. На протяжении многих лет в

нашей школе возрастала потребность в

студенческом наставнике, менторе и адвокате,

который помогал бы детям справляться с

проблемами/трудностями, возникающими в

отношениях со сверстниками, учителями или

другими взрослыми. Известно, что внешкольная жизнь

ребёнка может повлиять на его\её поведение или учёбу в

школе. Моя основная задача заключается в том, чтобы

поддерживать родителей и делать все от меня зависящее (и

что в моих силах) для того, чтобы помогать студентам

проявить их лучшие качества и способности. Цель моей

работы - помогать нашим студентам преуспевать во всех

сферах их жизни, а также направлять их в будущее с

надеждой, уверенностью и всесторонне образоваными. В

мои рабочие функции входит практическое воплощение

принципов программы CKH - через укрепление отношений и

коммуникации между школой, семьями, другими

организациями и заинтересованными сторонами для

совместного решения академических и социальных

трудностей с которыми сталкиваются студенты, а также

решение вопросов, связанных с поведением и эмоциональным

состоянием/здоровьем всех наших студентов.

Hello Students and Parents

from the “Technology De-

partment” of COA! Mr.

Strauch, Computer Lab

here! Well, school is finally

underway and we’ve been

working hard to make sure

that every student has access

to a computer in their class-

room and in our new and improved Computer Lab! The

Computer Lab has relocated to another room in our Dudley

Building making it a little bigger so we can fit in 34 desktop

computers for our larger, upper-grade classes. Plus it gives

students a little more room to maneuver their chairs in and

out.

Just so you’re aware and can follow up with this at home,

over the first two full weeks of school, Mr. Strauch went

over all of the rules for using the new Computer Lab as well

as the “Computer Use Guidelines for GCC Students” form

that was in the take-home packet at the beginning of the

school year. Students and parents signed this form and

agree to adhere to these rules for using computers ANY-

WHERE on our school campus (Computer Lab, classroom,

after-school program, etc.). Mr. Strauch explained these

rules thoroughly to students so they understood what they

signed and consequences that could occur if they can’t fol-

low these rules. Please make sure you continue to follow up

with students on the proper use of computer equipment at

school, so we can make sure all of our computers continue

to work properly all school year long! A copy of this form

is always available from the school upon request.

On another note, we continue to work with our current edu-

cational programs and websites to enhance and supplement

our students’ learning of skills in the classroom. We still

have our Lexia Reading program and our Math Whizz pro-

gram that students can use in the classroom as well as at

home! Along with these programs, we also have digital

versions of most of the students’ Nat Geo English Language

Arts and Go Math curriculum for students to use in class and

at home as well as the EPIC online library. Students will

continue to practice their typing skills and develop skills to

be a good Digital Citizen in the Computer Lab class and in

our After School Program classes. Along with these, we

continue to search for and use new programs and websites

that incorporate more 21st Century Skills for students includ-

ing computer coding, use of Microsoft Office programs and

presentations, and in the future, video and audio editing for

classroom presentations!

It’s another great year at COA and we’re looking forward to

utilizing more technology in the classroom as we move for-

Начался новый учебный год и мы постарались сделать так,

чтобы каждый студент имел доступ к компьютеру в классе,

а также в нашей новой и улучшенной компьютерной

лаборатории! В этом году компьютерный класс находится в

другой комнате, но в том же здании (Dudley). Новая

компьютерная комната несколько больше предыдущей, и это

позволило нам разместить в ней 34 компьютера,

необходимых для старших классов с большим количеством

студентов. Кроме того, наличие большего пространства

более удобно для работы на компьютере.

Доводим до вашего сведения, что в течение первых двух

недель школьных занятий, Mr. Strauch проинформировал

студентов о правилах использования новой компьютерной

лабораториии, а также познакомил их с "Принципами

использования компьютеров для студентов GCC", которые вы

получили в начале учебного года вместе с другими

документами\правилами. Студенты и родители подписали

эту форму и выразили согласие следовать правилам по

использованию компьютеров ВЕЗДЕ на территори школы

(компьютерная лаборатория, учебный класс, послешкольные

занятия и т.д.). Mr. Strauch подробно объяснил эти правила

студентам, а также последствия, которые могут

возникнуть, если данные правила будут нарушены.

Пожалуйста, убедитесь, что ваши дети знают как правильно

использовать компьютеры в школе. Таким образом мы будем

уверены, что все компьютеры используются по назначению и

будут работать должным образом в течение всего учебного

этом году, наши ученики будут продолжать практиковаться

и развивать свои навыки набора текста на компьютере в

компьютерной лаборатории и во время послешколной

программы. Мы будем продолжать поиск и использование

новых программ и веб-сайтов, которые позволят нашим

студентам приобрести навыки, необходимые в 21 веке

(программирование, изучение программ Microsoft Office, а

также видео и аудио редактирование для классных

презентаций). Данный учебный год - это ещё один год в COA

во ремя которого мы планируем использовать большое

количество технологий и компьютерных программ в классах!

The COA staff was pleased to hold our annual “Family Reading Night” on Thursday, September 8th, 2016. With pass-

ports in their hands, students traveled through different author themed classrooms. Students listened to a variety of sto-

ries and created small reading projects. Some students created bookmarks while others played the game “bookwalk”

where they had an opportunity to win some books. While the students were having fun and investing some quality time

into reading and authors, parents were invited to attend a workshop about most of COA’s online programs. The process

of logging in as well as different features and troubleshooting of each program was discussed. Six online programs

were covered at the workshop. Lexia Core 5 and Math Whizz are supplemental programs used for extra help or chal-

lenge. National Geographic and Go Math are our schools’ curriculum. Gradelink is our grades keeper, while EPIC is

our online library. All website logins information was provided at the workshop and students in 2nd grade and above

have these logins in their planners. Your child should have brought you a registration form for EPIC. Once we collect

all the forms, you should be receiving an email from EPIC with an access code by October. If you have any questions,

please talk to your teachers.
