There is a major shift away from Community Services placing children and young people to non-government organisations making placements.
Rural areas have the highest rates of children in OOHC.Western CS region has the highest rate followed by Hunter Central Coast and Northern regions.

Evidence also shows that rural areas have the largest numbers of Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander children and young people in OOHC. (Western and Northern CS regions having the highest numbers).
Placement of CYP in relative and Aboriginal kinship care continues to grow. Between 2011 and 2013 there was a 5.4% increase in the number of relative/kinship carer households with a placement.
