Akerman Remembers Friend and Colleague, Brian Gart

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Brian Gart, a partner in Akerman’sFort Lauderdale office. A talented first chair lawyer, Gart was admired by thejudiciary and the bankruptcy community for his business acumen, hisinvolvement in a number of complex business restructurings, and hisleadership in The Florida Bar.

Gart devoted more than 30 years to his national practice, focusing on complexbusiness reorganization and distressed deals for private equity, hedge fundsand other investment funds. He began his career at Greenberg Traurig LLP in1985 where he eventually became a shareholder and practice leader of thefirm’s Business Reorganization and Bankruptcy Department. In 2008 hemoved his practice to Berger Singerman where he continued to practice as apartner until 2015. From 2015-2016 he served as Managing Director andGeneral Counsel of Gordian Group, LLC. In 2016, he returned to privatepractice as a partner in Akerman’s Bankruptcy and Reorganization PracticeGroup.

Gart previously served as the Chair of the Business Law Section of the FloridaBar, which represents the interests of over 6,000 business lawyers within theState of Florida. He also was extremely active in the development andenactment of many of Florida’s business and commercial laws. He earned aB.A., cum laude, in 1980 at the University of Miami and a J.D, cum laude, at theUniversity of Miami School of Law.
