Consumer Beware!Avoid Potential Pitfalls

• Unlicensed contractors are uninsured and incompetent• Homeowner’s insurance will not pay for damage or poor workmanship

caused by an unlicensed contractor• BEWARE of the so called “Handyman”• A Business Tax Receipt (formerly known as an Occupational License)

issued by the County is NOT a Contractor License!• Don’t be victimized by someone making door to door solicitation• Don’t pay cash, don’t let payments get ahead of the work completed,

don’t pay the full cost of the job up front• Get at least 3 bids• Avoid owner/builder permits, keep the responsibility where it belongs,

with the contractor
