Brethren Light Issue 208 July 2012
Summer Speaker Series
As many of you already know the Leadership Board has graciously al-
lowed me to take a preaching sabbatical during the month of July. Let me reiterate that
this is not a month long vacation. I will still be having some office hours and a few meet-
ings during this time. This is simply a chance for me to focus my heart, mind, and soul
on Jesus Christ and give him time to prepare me for what lies ahead. I am grateful for
this opportunity to rejuvenate my passion for ministry, and the vision that God continues
to lay on my heart. With that in mind I wanted to use this opportunity to share with who
will be filling in for me on Sundays during my sabbatical.
July 1st Pastor John Shelton
July 8th Pastor John Shelton
July 15th Matt Meighan – He and his wife Jill and their 2 children currently reside in
Fishers, Indiana. He is a graduate of Butler University and is part of the core leadership
team of a church plant called The Pointe Community Church in Fishers. Matt has filled
the pulpit on several occasions for pastors and has a heart of God that is evident in his
life. And they are Buckeye fans!
July 22nd Jim Wright – He and his wife Laura and son Jeremy recently moved from Cen-
tre, Alabama, where he served as a Senior Pastor for 12 years, to the Carmel, Indiana ar-
ea to start a new church called Pathway Church.
July 29th Robert Rogers - Currently resides in Fort Wayne, Indiana and is the founder of
Mighty in the Land Ministries. In 2003, he and his wife were traveling in Kansas when
their van was caught in flash flood that swept their van away causing his wife and four
children to drown and leaving him as the only survivor. Robert will share how this event
has changed his life and how God has proven to be faithful each step of the way. You can
go to his web site to read more http://www.intothedeep.org/ourstory
I am excited to see what God has in store for us through these great men of God
and the messages they will be bringing to us. My hope is that this is a time a renewal and
refreshing in your faith as well as we have a chance to hear from different voices and
hearts. Thank you for your kindness, graciousness, understanding, and prayers during
this sabbatical.

July 2012
On Saturday September 8th, Gene
and Nancy Harshbarger have graciously
offered their home for the location of our Fall Harvest Party. Bring the whole family
for autumn themed food, hayrides, corn hole, bon fires, and great fellowship. More
details to come in the next edition.
Movie Night
Grab the kids and some lawn chairs,
and get ready for a new kind of family
movie night. Begin-ning at 8:00 pm on Fri-
day July 20th, BCOB
invites you and your
family to come and view a kid-friendly movie on our outdoor
movie screen. All are welcome so bring a
friend along. Popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy will be provided to make this
an extra special movie night. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Sanc-tuary. The show must go on, rain or shine!
Back 2 School Block Party
Many families in our community have
felt the blessings of your generosity when they
have received the school supplies for their
children in the past 3 years. Some of these
families may not have been able to afford on
their own, and so we want to be able to con-
tinue this ministry at our Block Party on Sat-
urday August 4th from 2-4 p.m.
Every Sunday during the month of July, there will be backpacks located at every
entrance to collect donations for the purchase of school supplies. We will also have a link
on our website to donate online. On Monday July 16th at 6:00 pm, we invite those who are
interested in helping with the Block Party to attend a planning meeting to share thoughts
and ideas. For this event to be successful it will take many volunteers so please consider
being a part of this team.

The Buildings & Grounds Team needs your help. There are several
maintenance projects at the church that need done, but unfortunately they are lacking the manpower to complete them.
So they are asking for volunteers, whether it be 1
hour, 1 day, or even 1
week of your time,
anything is appreciated. The following is a list of i t e m s t h a t n e e d
completed:
Painting: Entrance doors,
outside window frames, choir room, wall in foyer
that was repaired
Electrical: Install outside light, install
ceiling fan, and replace light fixtures
Plumbing: Remove urinal in downstairs Men’s room
Construction: Repair window sills, replace board covering window at the Refinery
If you are willing to help with any of these projects, either with a team member or by
yourself, please contact the BCOB office at 448-2215 or Dave Shoup at 448-6345.

Help Save a Life Show your love and support of our fellow bothers and sisters in Christ by do-
nating blood and saving a life. The Com-munity Blood Center relies on an average
of 325 donors every day to meet patient needs.
On August 13, BCOB will be host-ing a blood drive at the BHS from 2:30—
6:30. If you are not able to be a blood do-
nor, there are other ways that you can help. Volunteers are needed for 1-2 hour
shifts the day of the blood drive. We also
need to provide cook-ies and juice for the donors. If you are
willing to help or do-nate cookies and/or
juice, please contact Kristina Wackler in
the church office at 448-2215 for more de-tails

This fall our discipleship team is
challenging us to find a place to connect
beyond Sunday mornings. We
recognize that there are many great
things about our Sunday service and we
are excited that you join us regularly.
But we also realize that there is much
more that we can do personally to
continue to strengthen our walk with
Christ and our relationships with others
in our church. So beginning this fall we are committed to providing more options to connect.
There are 3 terms we would like to introduce and explain to you. Some of the terms you may
be familiar with and the others you may have heard but not sure of what it means.
Sunday School – Groups that meet each Sunday morning from 9 – 10 a.m. throughout the
church building. The classes are all year long with different Biblical subjects being discussed.
We have classes for all ages and all walks of life during this hour. These groups are great for
those who want a consistent meeting time each week throughout the entire year. These
classes are currently available and you can join one at any time.
Life Groups (small group) - These groups meet throughout the week either at the church or
at an off-site location such as someone’s home. Beginning this fall these groups will begin a
“semester” style schedule. They will meet from September to December and take a
Christmas break and resume in January until Easter. Some groups discuss questions based
on the Pastors most recent sermon. We currently offer groups for Men, Women, and couples
with or without children. Most life groups are on summer break, so be on the look-out for a
more complete list of life groups available in September as we are dedicated to continuing to
provide more Life Group options.
Focus Groups – This is the newest opportunity that the BCOB discipleship team will begin
providing. These groups are built around topical studies that range from finances, to
parenting, to new followers of Christ. Each of these groups last as long as the course material
requires which can range from 4 to 13 weeks, depending on the topic and material used. These
groups will be provided throughout the year. They will meet throughout the week and possibly
on Sunday mornings at the church, at the Refinery or in homes. These groups are a great place
to start if you just want to get a feel for how groups work at BCOB.
Each of these opportunities are a great way to begin building your relationship with
others within our church and strengthening your walk with Jesus Christ. Join one or join
them all they only thing stopping you is…you. Remember life is better in circles than it is in
rows.
