Searching for the Loch Ness Monster …

Finding Something Else It’s fun to believe in the Loch Ness Monster,

affectionately referred to as “Nessy”. In 2009,

scientists performed a real search of Loch Ness to

try to find Nessy. Unfortunately, the search

came up empty for monster sized reptiles.

But … they did find over 100,000 golf balls!!!

Schoolhouse Rock Had It Right!

Drop the flashcards and start warming up your vocal cords instead.

According to researchers at the University of Edinburgh's Reid

School of Music, there might be an easier way to learn a foreign

language than endless vocabulary drills. It's an approach that's been

championed by years of Schoolhouse Rock videos: memorizing by

music.

Participants in an experimental study attempted to learn phrases in

Hungarian, a language unfamiliar to most English speakers. Each

group learned the phrases by ear (as classroom learners might), then

was asked to repeat them 15 minutes later. While one group merely

heard the words spoken normally and spoke them in return, another

group learned the phrases set to a defined rhythm, while a third

group were treated to a foreign language lesson in song. The singing

group remembered far more Hungarian than the others, though they

were able to repeat back the phrases in their normal speaking voices,

without the melody. I knew it, I can still sing “I’m just a bill, sitting

here on Capitol Hill” to this day!

“Normality is a paved road:

It’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it.”

~ Vincent Van Gogh

The Funny Bone

I hope you’re not sitting by this guy if

you’re traveling for the holidays!

Answers to Brain Teasers on Page 1 1. The pear grew inside the bottle. The bottles are placed over pear buds when they are

small, and are wired in place on the tree. The bottle is left in place for the entire growing

season. When the pears are ripe, they are snipped off at the stems.

2. Three English words beginning with dw: Dwarf, dwell & dwindle.

3. Fourteen punctuation marks in English grammar: Period, comma, colon, semicolon,

dash, hyphen, apostrophe, question mark, exclamation point, quotation mark, brackets,

parenthesis, braces, and ellipses.

Client  Appreciation  Day  Event  Results

On  Friday,  Nov.  9,  we  held  our  annual  Client  Appreciation  Day  event  at  1  Stop  Car  and  Truck  Repair.    We  are  thankful  for  each  and  every  one  of  our  loyal  customers  and  this  event  gives  us  the  opportunity  to  express  our  appreciation  and  possibly  show  new  customers  what  we’re  all  about.

Months  of  planning  go  into  organizing  the  Client  Appreciation  Day.    Announcement  postcards  were  sent  out  weeks  in  advance  and  advertised  in  our  newsletter  and  on  our  Facebook  page.    Many  1  Stop  t-‐shirts  and  hats  were  ordered.    You  may  have  spotted  owner  John  Yunker  scouring  the  stores  to  find  the  perfect  prizes  for  numerous  raffle  drawings.    This  year  we  gave

away  over  100  gifts,  including  hats,  t-‐shirts,  mugs,  Venetian  Coffee  Roasters  coffee,  NAPA  gifts,  tools,  golf  umbrellas,  gift  cards,  wine,  candles,  chocolates,  and  many  other  prizes.    We  even  made  sure  to  have  prizes  and  balloons  for  the  children  that  came  with  their  parents.

Tables  and  chairs  were  rented  from  A’s  Rentals  and  canopy  tents  were  brought  in  for  the  day.    Our  dedicated  1  Stop  staff  came  in  two  hours  early  on  this  Saturday  to  set  up  for  the  event.    John  and  Rich  Yunker,  Joe  Benedetto,  Kenney  Collier,  Steve  McDonough,  Frank  Tapp,  Kathryn  DeNinno,  and  Willie  Wilson  arranged  tables,  chairs,  and  tents  and  organized  the  prize  and  food  tables.

We  offered  our  guests  a  BBQ  lunch  with  all  the  fixin’s  from  Sonny’s  BBQ.    Everyone  enjoyed  savory  beef  brisket  sandwiches,  macaroni  and  cheese,  BBQ  beans  and  coleslaw  and  a

variety  of  drinks.    Rick  Roberts  from  Suncoast  NAPA  Auto  Parts  supplemented  the  meal  by  offering  grilled  hot  dogs,  chili  and  potato  chips  and  NAPA  donated  several  raffle  prizes.

Mike  and  Suzie  Ashton  kept  the  party  lively  with  their  fantastic  mix  of  rock  and  roll,  standards,  island  music  and  more.    As  was  the  case  last  year,  they  did  a  fabulous  job  for  our  Client  Appreciation  Day  event.  Much  toe  tapping  and  a  bit  of  dancing  was  observed.

Guests  eagerly  awaited  the  grand  prize  drawing  for  a  Samsung  Galaxy  7”  tablet,  valued  at  $199.  Our  grand  prizewinner  this  year  was  Linda  Troemel  and  she  was  so  excited  to  have  won.

All-‐in-‐all,  our  Client  Appreciation  Day  event  was  a  success!    It  was

great  to  see  the  friendly  and  familiar  faces  of  our  clients  who  keep  us  in  business.

Thank  you  everyone  and  keep  those  referrals  coming!    The  steady  stream  of  word-‐of-‐mouth  advertising  we  receive  is  the  very  best!
