From the Pastor’s DeskIn these weeks following Easter, we continue to be in awe of God’s love shown through Christ. Are you living differently because you have encountered God’s love? As God’s people we are to be transforming into the likeness of Christ by letting the Holy Spirit work within us. We also remember that as God’s people we are all called to witness our faith by sharing the Good News of God’s grace to others with our words and our deeds; to do so involves:

Reaching: We reach out to people. We let them know that we are interested in them and in their lives. We listen to what they have to say and express our concern. We do this with friends and relatives, with schoolmates, co-workers, and neighbors, with those well known to us and the new people we regularly encounter. This involves building friendship and trust with those around us.

Sharing: As we interact with people, we live out our faith and when the opportunity arises, we verbalize our faith. We talk about our own spiritual journey, the ups and the downs, and how we are currently growing. We point to Jesus as the source of our strength and salvation. We ask others about their journeys as well and as we talk, we do not need to have all the answers. Rather, in the spirit of concerned friendship, we simply speak of what we have known of God’s love.

Inviting: We invite people to take part in this congregation. We have discovered something at Christ Church worth sharing with others, a caring fellowship, a sense of God’s presence in worship, an understanding of the Bible and how it informs our living, and opportunities to join with others in making a difference in people’s lives through missions and outreach. We tell others about the congregation and urge them to visit. This is an important part of our faith, sharing the love of God and telling people about how important our church is to us and inviting them to try it out. During the years when the Methodist church was growing the most, 1 in 5 members regularly invited/brought a friend with them to Church each Sunday.

Bringing: We bring others with us to church. We know that inviting others to come may not be enough. It’s friendlier and more effective to ask, “When can I pick you up? Or which worship service can I meet you at?” We may bring them to the Sunday morning worship service as our guests. We may invite them to a special event or serving activity of the church. When we bring them, we take the opportunity to give them a tour and introduce them to others, including the pastor.

Asking: Finally, at appropriate times we raise with them the issue of their response to the Good News. We are not responsible for their answer, that is between them and the Holy Spirit, but we are responsible for witnessing our faith and inviting them to experience it themselves.

I pray that as you read this you are reminded that as a Christian you have an important part in the growing of the Church as we seek to carry out the mission Jesus gives us to help others become disciples. God gives us the great privilege and the command to share the story of Jesus and invite others to become part of His Church. Let us each seek to witness our faith through word and deed so that others may know the love of God and find their place within our Church family.

God Bless, Pastor George J. Kafer

Apportionments provide for ministries that directly help over 50,000 people in Wisconsin and many more beyond. In 2019 our apportionment is $43,728, if we each give faithfully to the general fund and if able a special gift for apportionments, $254 a year per member, we can continue to support connectional ministries and free up more of our general funds to increase outreach and ministry in our local area.

Stewardship Makes a Difference!Thank you for all the ways you support ministry. This newsletter has examples of how our church is making a difference in people’s lives through your giving! It is good to see people trusting in God and answering His call to give. People are offering themselves to serve and their financial giving (several tithing 10% of income, or working toward tithing)!
