TU Berlin: world-class smart city researchSmart City research requires expertise from many different disciplines. For this reason, the Technical University Berlin initiated the Smart City Platform in 2013 with the aim to connect the many technical and social disciplines across the university whose research touches on the various aspects of the Smart City.

So far, more than 20 disciplines and research groups are involved. This breadth and diversity gives the TU Berlin a unique platform from which to analyse, guide and develop new technologies and innovative approaches for managing our cities of tomorrow.

What is BrainBox? Many of our actions today are ruled by algorithms and processes that are invisible to the eye. We find it hard to understand how to talk about, experience and govern smart processes in cities.

BrainBox is a visionary public performance space and plan-ning-support tool for Smart City development. It is an en-vironment where people can meet to learn about, imagine and discuss the future of their city. Like in ancient Greece, it provides a space for meaningful encounter, education, artistic expression and collective thought.

Through the power of story-telling and visualisation, BrainBox empowers experts and non-experts, citizens and decision-makers to work together closely on the complex aspects related to life in our cities of tomorrow.

What’s happening in the Smart City Berlin? With the help of an interactive table, you can discover many stories about Smart City Berlin: energy, mobility, wa-ter, waste management, big data, health or nano satellites.

You can also learn how to play a multi-player scenario game, where you can develop innovative projects based on a database of actors, technologies and projects in Berlin.
