together with the three match officials Messrs Templey, Mahboob & Webb. We hope you all enjoy your short stay with us and have a safe journey back home later on.

It is with sadness that I report that Rob Scully has resigned as programme editor with immediate effect due to personal circumstances not allowing him to carry on with the role.

Our programme regularly wins awards and that is a testament to Rob who was the oracle on all things Bracknell since 1984 when he started as programme editor.

Tom Canning is taking on the role temporarily but we are looking for a more permanent solution so any willing volunteers, please make yourself known to me.

Today’s match is the cup in which we made the final last year. Although we lost the final convincingly, it would be nice to go one better this year. We have a tough ask against the league leaders but we will certainly be going for it.

Last Saturday we were not at our best by a long shot but another last minutes (two Saturday’s in a row saw us defeat Thatcham Town 4-3 so it should be a good battle.

Don’t forget you can vote on our website - http://bit.ly/potmaward - for the November player of the month for the first team, development team, youth team and ladies team though please only vote in categories you have seen matches in……. we are monitoring all entries!

Remember it is a cup game today so extra time and then penalties if required.

Thank you for your continued support.

Come on U Robins! #coyrobinsDarrell ‘Dudley’ Freeland

Tracing back over the records, a Highmoor Football Club can be found in existence until just after the war, with the current club that is now in existence being formed in 1966.

Prior to 1990 the club enjoyed little success and it the late 1980’s was very close to extinction as they struggled to fill the 2 teams. It was during this period that the current club secretary, Chris Gallimore took over and recruited the now Chairman, Martin Law, to become 1st team manager and between them they assembled a strong squad of players and success was to follow.

As the club progressed through the divisions and into the Reading Senior League, they outgrew their original home and in 2003 proposed a merger with Ibis Football Club based at Scours Lane in Reading. The Ibis FC was formed in 1913 and is the sports and social club of Prudential Assurance Company. The Ibis name some say because many rowing clubs took the names of water fowl. Others believe it derived from the cry Come on the Ibis which habitually drowned out the supporters of the OBs in departmental team events. (IB standing for the Industrial Branch and OB standing for the Ordinary Branch of the Prudential). Since 2001 the club has achieved various successes including winning the Reading Senior League, twice, Maidenhead Norfolkian Senior Cup, BTC Intermediate and Senior Cups and Reading Invitation Challenge Cup Senior as well as the A team winning league and cup competitions.

In the 2010/11 season the first team won the Reading Senior League which allowed them to gain promotion to the Hellenic Football League and in 2011/12 competing for the first time in the clubs history, Highmoor secured promotion from Hellenic Division 1 East after finishing runners and also came runners up in the Leagues Supplementary Cup and also the Reading Invitation Challenge Senior Cup.

Last season saw further history written as they finished a creditable 12th in their first season in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League and also saw them compete in the FA Vase for the first time ever.

The club has now established itself as the biggest in Reading behind the Reading FC and one of the biggest set ups in Berkshire for non league football and junior football.

The team 1st have the honour of playing their home games at the historic and prestigious Palmer ParkStadium.

The current season has seen more historical landmarks with the first appearance in the FA Cup and FA Youth Cup and the launch of the Highmoor Academy offering the opportunity for 16 – 18 years to study a Diploma in Sports Science a first locally for a football club.

The 1st team came 4th in the Uhlsport Hellenic League, the Reserve team won the Reading Senior League (the first club ever to have a 1st and reserve team win the Senior league), the A team finished mid table in the Reading Premier League and making the Reading Jubilee Cup final and the B team finishing runners up in Division 4 of the Reading League. And to complement this, the completion of a partnership with Reading University enabling student from the Uni having the opportunity to play Saturday football.

Keith Penicott-Bowen - Manager. Took over as manager in October 2014 having been assistant for two years. ‘Bowes’ is a club legend having played for over a decade during the 90s and was part of the side that reached the FA Cup First Round Proper in 2000. Keith has also been a coach at Binfield.

SponsorNeeded

Garry Aulsberry - Experienced goalkeeper who joined the club from Binfield in October after injury to James Hawtree and has been in impressive form. Previously played for Wokingham & Emmbrook.

SponsorNeeded

Michael Watson - A quick and attacking right back who came through our youth system. ‘Mikey’ was arguably our most consistent player last season turning in steady performances on a weekly basis.

SponsorNeeded

Harry Brown - Young defender who joined us from Farnborough. Can play at full back but has mostly been used at centre half. ‘H’ has proved to be a classy and quick addition.

SponsorNeeded

Jordan Rowland - Used to play as a winger but now plying his trade as a left back. An attack minded player who strikes the ball so well he will undoubtedly cause problems with his set piece delivery and excellent crossing.

SponsorNeeded

Grant Goodband - Grant joined us during last season having re-cently moved to the area. A solid defender who loves to tackle and has a committed approach. Can play right-back or centre back.

SponsorNeeded

Tom Williams - A strong central defender who can also play in midfield. Was previously with Binfield where he played a large part in their reserve team title win. Doesn’t lose many aerial battles.

SponsorNeeded

Andre Kelly - Andre joined us from Finchampstead wanting to try his hand at Hellenic Premier Division football. A very composed and cultured central defender who also chips in with a few goals.

Sponsored by TC

Taylor Elliott-Money - In his second spell at the club having featured regularly under Steve Nebbett and Danny Oliphant. Comfortable at full-back and in midfield.

SponsorNeeded

Sam Tighe - Tall and quiet defender who sets about the game with minimal fuss. Can play central or right and is another who counts Binfield as his previous club.

SponsorNeeded

Tom Nugent - ‘Nuge’ is as strong as an ox and can play in midfield or defence. Scores a lot of headed goals and is a player we miss through being away at university for large parts of the season. An-other who progressed through our youth system.

SponsorNeeded

Pen Pics - Sponsor a player for £40

Page 13: Bracknell Town vs. Highmoor-IBIS cup programme

Tom Barratt - Tom is a talented youngster who progressed through our youth team. Best in midfield and with a powerful shot, he has a great attitude and can also play at the back although he prefers midfield.

SponsorNeeded

Sam Whiting - New club captain for the coming season and is a very cultured midfielder. Primarily playing a central role, he will be the heartbeat of our team and will look to dictate our tempo.

SponsorNeeded

Kennie Chamberlain - Kennie is yet another who came from Binfield and he too was a regular in our reserve side last campaign. Likes to play an attacking central role, ideally behind the striker or strikers whom he can support.

SponsorNeeded

James King - ‘Simba’ also came through our youth system and joined us midway through last season from Wokingham & Em-mbrook. A good dribbler of the ball who likes to operate in the space between midfield and attack.

SponsorNeeded

Martin Bradshaw - Our most versatile player having played almost every position bar goalkeeper last season. Quiet and unassuming, ‘Bradders’ does a job wherever he is asked to play and without any fuss. Prefers to play as a wide attacker.

SponsorNeeded

Dan Broadbear - Very quick and skilful winger who won manager’s player and players player last season for our reserve team. Should be first team regular this season having impressed in pre-season for us.

SponsorNeeded

Khalid Senussi - Another player who joined from Wokingham & Em-mbrook. Khalid is a skilful player more adept at playing in a wide position who tries to find pockets of space to operate in.

SponsorNeeded

Jake White - Came through the clubs youth system where he excelled as a striker before converting into a right-back. Now back playing as a striker where his blistering pace causes problems for opposition defences.

SponsorNeeded

Shane Cooper-Clark - A good target man who can link play very well and looks set to be a key component of our striking options this season. Previously clubs include Ascot United and Wokingham & Emmbrook.

Sponsored by SteveGabb

Lewis Burns - One of a trio of players who joined us from Wokingham & Emmbrook. Lewis also came through our youth system and had a good goals to games ration last season.

SponsorNeeded

Ebby Opoku-Ware - A regular for our youth team and reserve team last campaign and also played a couple of first team matches. Arguably our most skilful player with plenty of tricks up his sleeve, he should not be underestimated despite his tender years.

Cup in 2000. Keith is a respected coach and has coached with Binfield and Bracknell, and was assistant manager at Bracknell Town this season.

‘Bowes’ sat down with us at the end of November and answered a few questions for the club website. Here are selection for your reading pleasure.

You are what is known as ‘a club legend’ having played (by my reckoning anyway) for at least a decade at Larges Lane – are the current players aware of your history with the club? That’s not for me to comment. However, I personally feel very honoured, humbled to follow in the footsteps of Steve Mclurg, Clive & Mark Tallentire, Phil Alexander, Nick Collier, Alan Taylor (who gave me my first opportunity as Reserve Team Manager) and importantly also Richard Whitty.

How did it feel lacing up the boots again recently? Happy days…. I am always up for a challenge (literally..!!). You are a long time retired… So to walk across the white line was a great feeling. Was the first time I had done the pre-match respect handshake.. lol.

Bracknell have a rich recent history of ‘older’ players making comebacks, but which players would you – hypothetically of course – love to be able to select from your playing days at Larges Lane? Mick Parker, Alan Williams, Justin Day, Tony Woods, Dave Osgood, Gary Holzman, John Smith, Mick Havermans, Peter Skerritt, Phil Alexander, Bobby Purser, Nicky Collier, Adam Crittenden, Richard Whitty.

Are there any young players at the club that have caught your eye? Development Team Manager Lee Simpson is my network there. But for sure I want to try and attend a couple of Allied County Matches to get a closer look.

How has the transition been to management? Seamless really…. The players have a great respect and commitment to Bracknell Town FC. Importantly, there is also a team network of unsung behind the seen volunteers’ such as Duds, Bob & Sue Langs, Chris, Mick & Kim Bradley to name a few who bind the club together. Of course most important the club supporters…!
