Our students leave Bournville College equipped with skills that will carry them through their future education and careers.

Bournville College was first established in 1913 by George Cadbury as a school for the workers of his chocolate factory and in 2013 we celebrated our 100th anniversary in providing education. The college has changed a lot since 1913 but our core values remain. Today, we occupy a modern campus in Longbridge which was built in 2011. It is one of the most technologically advanced campuses in Europe where you will find the latest technology and equipment, free Wi-Fi, Starbucks coffee, gym, hair and beauty salons, laptops, iPads, Macs and PCs as well as industry-standard workshops designed for specific vocational careers. You will learn from our tutors who are industry experts and subject specialists so you can benefit from their knowledge and industry links.

Facilities

Learning ZoneOpen from early till late, the Learning Zone provides an inclusive environment welcoming all learners and staff and is a dedicated area for all your study needs.

Divided into learning zones, the centre offers a suitable environment for everyone. Equipped with desktop PCs, you can choose to work anywhere from the group work area by reception, to the quiet study area on the top level. The wireless network throughout the centre offers complete flexibility; you can bring your laptop and work wherever you feel comfortable, from a sofa, to a desk and chair.

We stock a wide range of materials to support teaching. Resources range from course textbooks, supplementary reading, electronic books, journals and recorded TV and radio programmes. For learning on the go, we have iPads, Android tablets, voice recorders, flip cameras, video cameras, headphones and microphones available on loan to students via their tutor. Staffed by a highly qualified team, help can be provided with any study skills and IT assistance.

ClassroomsOur classrooms are equipped with computers and smartboards. For more specialist subjects, the classrooms include industry-related technology, such as Macs for music and media, microscopes for science, Pro Tools music software and equipment for music, easels and mannequins for art and fashion students and many more.

Students of other vocational subjects, such as beauty therapy, hairdressing, motor vehicle maintenance or catering, learn in the commercially set up units of Urban Serenity beauty salon, Urban Elegance hair salon, The Garage @ Bournville College and Urban Flavours restaurant.

Our construction students learn in specifically designed workshops for bricklaying, plumbing and painting & decorating. In 2014, the year you may be joining us at Bournville College, we are planning to open a brand new construction centre, right next to our main campus.

Cinema RoomIf you like going to see movies, youre going to love our Cinema Room. It is equipped with 3D technology, enabling our students to have a real cinema experience in college. The Cinema sits up to 40 students and is a popular student destination, especially on Wednesday afternoons for our regular Film Club.

The StreetThe Street is the place where everything happens. Here you can buy a variety of refreshments from our outlets including Starbucks, Zest, Go Sasa! and Urban News. Access to other college services such as Careers Zone, Learning Zone, Urban Chill student common room, Urban Flavours restaurant, Advice Zone and Money Zone is available on The Street.

During the Second World War air raid shelters are built at the College site. Students work hard to help RAF and Army troops as well as mine sweepers, hospitals and more. 1940s

Our students can enjoy a 10% discount off the menu prices in Urban Flavours restaurant. It is open to the general public too, enabling our catering and hospitality students to master their culinary and front of house skills through serving real customers.

9Urban Serenity is a beauty salon where beauty therapy students are able to learn different techniques of this exciting industry. The salons commercial part is open to use by all Bournville College students and the general public. It offers a wide range of treatments including massages, manicures, make-up, waxing and spray-tanning and uses a variety of products from well-known brands including Elemis and Dermalogica skincare range, Jessica gel nails and Xen tan for spray tanning.

Professional beauty salon...

1949Bournville Day Continuation School becomes Bournville Day Continuation College. The College makes news headlines when it allows students to choose their own courses as opposed to following a standard curriculum.

Urban Elegance is a hairdressing salon where hairdressing students learn different skills that the hairdressing industry has to offer. The commercial salon is open to Bournville College students and the general public, offering a wide range of services for European and Afro hair, for men and women. A full barbering service is also available. The Salon uses a variety of known brands such as GHD, Schwarzkopf, Moroccan oil, Avlon-Kera Care and TIGI.

Our gym is open 7 days a week enabling our students to keep fit around their college timetable. The gym features over 70 work stations, steam room and sauna and runs a regular timetable of keep fit classes including spinning, kettlebells, boxer circuit training, fitness bootcamp, pilates and zumba.

The College celebrates its Golden Jubilee and due to rapid growth in student numbers, occupies seventeen separate buildings.

The Garage offers a unique opportunity for our students of motor vehicle maintenance to learn and practise their skills under close supervision of staff working in this commercial business. It offers a full range of services for cars and motorbikes including MOTs, servicing and repairs.

Our students love Urban Chill thanks to its relaxing atmosphere. Here they can play a game of pool, listen to their favourite music, pick up a copy of Buzz, the student magazine, find out about volunteering or book themselves onto a variety of student trips to places such as Alton Towers, Warwick Castle, paintballing or ice skating.

VolunteeringVolunteering is a great way of enhancing your CV, getting additional experience and giving something back to those in need. Our volunteering scheme is open to everyone and runs in partnership with Vinspired.

Student UnionWhen you join us, you automatically become a member of the Student Union. Elections enable all students to vote and decide the members of the Executive. The President then sits on the College Corporation, which is the highest decision-making body at the College.

Film ClubOur weekly Film Club is held in a 3D cinema room. The Club is open to all students and managed by the Student Activities Team. To find out more about the cinema room, turn to page 5.

BuzzOur student magazine Buzz is written by our students and is full of interesting material including photographs from trips, successes outside the College, hints and tips on different topics, film reviews and much more.

Sport Development CentresYou dont have to study sport in order to join one of our Sport Development Centres in football, badminton, basketball, cricket, running, netball or rugby (Bournville Bisons). You will be trained by qualified coaches and able to represent the College in the British College League, earn nationally-recognised qualifications and we can even help you coach abroad.

Advice ZoneAdvice Zone is home to our Admissions and Customer Service Teams who will be your first port of call for any enquiries regarding your application to Bournville College and enrolment process. Student Funding and Welfare TeamThe Student Funding Team is here to ensure you get the best advice and support to ensure that a lack of money is not preventing you from attending your course. Welfare service is available to help students with any issue surrounding benefits, housing, debt, accommodation, immigration concerns or any other welfare-related issues.

Additional SupportOur Inclusive Learning Team provide additional support for students with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, learning difficulties, mental health difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions, medical conditions and specific learning difficulties (i.e. dyslexia).

Prayer RoomWe have excellent facilities for praying in the Faith Room. These facilities are accessible to people of all faiths and traditions and we are proud that people of different faiths use the same space for prayer in a respectful manner.

Bus Travel to Bournville College for only 10pStudents travelling to Bournville College from Bromsgrove, Redditch, Quinton, Halesowen and Bearwood are able to save pounds in their pockets with a special travel deal costing only 10p a trip.

The service operated by West Midlands Special Needs Transport (WMSNT) offers four travel routes including 39B from Bromsgrove, 39R from Redditch, 39S from Quinton and 39H from Bearwood and Halesowen.

The tutors at college helped me achieve my goals and encouraged me to do my best. The college is very modern and friendly, featuring excellent learning resources such as cameras and MACs. I would recommend A Level courses because the expertise of the tutors, the modern technology and the support you receive are brilliant.

The science facilities are excellent for all the practical assessments that we did on the course.
