Up-sell email is the email in which you call person’s attention to an item of greater quality (and cost).
What is cross-sell email?
Cross-sell email is the email in which you inform a customer of a related item that naturally “goes” with the main product (item purchased), For example, phone and headphones.

Up-sells act as upgrades of the purchased product, not adding other individual products to the order.
Cross-sells add other related products to the order.
So what is bounce-back email campaign?
Bounce-back email is a type of up-sell/cross-sell email that is sent to a customer immediately after he places an order offering a good immediate deal for a customer (like discount from a regular price).
What’s the purpose?
The purpose of the bounce-back email is to increase the AOV (average order value) by selling (up-selling or cross-selling) additional products.
The key here is to suggest a good offer and use the sense of urgency.
Which products to use?
Important thing is to use the right products for your bounce-back emails:
Products should have high margins since potentially you are going to sell a lot of them and you will need to discount them constantly.
Products used in the email should always be in stock.
How to set up?
The setup is simple. We would set up a flow with the trigger “Placed Order” and send it out immediately after someone has placed an order. We know for a fact that engagement rates are high if you send an email right after the transaction since people will be looking for some order details etc.
The key here is to create hidden product pages in shopping cart which would be displaying different than regular price for the chosen items and would only be accessible from the links in the email.
